Mexico

This is an uncommon dawn capsule in Xochimilco — paddle-driven and nature-focused — you’re back in the city before the canals get busy. Private pickup from your accommodation in Mexico City gets you to the World Heritage wetlands in time for sunrise. 

You board a cayuco — a native, paddle-driven canoe — for a two-hour canoeing adventure through ancestral canals and the man-made farm islands known as chinampas, in use for over a thousand years. Along the way you’ll take in seasonal flora and fauna — marigolds and water lilies on the surface, wading and water birds such as herons, and native aquatic life like charal and frogs. 

As you paddle, your host — an expert in environmental sustainability and Xochimilco’s culture — sets the scene with history and biodiversity. You’ll pause in a lagoon to experience a beautiful sunrise while enjoying a tea or coffee and amaranth cookies (sesame, flaxseed, sunflower seeds), then continue the route before transferring back to the city.

Argentina

This portrait photography session makes you the main character on the stage of Buenos Aires. Curated by a professional travel photographer whose work has been published all over the world, you will leave the activity with impeccable images commemorating your time in the Argentine capital. Bernardo is a charming host who also peppers this experience with anecdotes about the locations covered, his career as a photographer, and Porteño life. 

Bernardo typically runs this experience in the La Boca neighborhood, where you will pose to an aesthetic backdrop of colorful tenement buildings and street art around Caminito. However, the location may be changed to another barrio such as Puerto Madero, Plaza de Mayo, or Palermo Soho. Bernardo uses a full frame mirrorless camera and pro lenses in order to achieve the maximum image quality. He also uses a professional flash lighting system with diffusers when the natural light isn’t sufficient.

This private photoshoot experience is hosted by a professional travel portrait photographer from Buenos Aires. Bernardo delights just as much in showing travelers around his home city as he does helping them to capture photographic mementos from their time in the Argentine capital. As such, his photoshoot is thoughtful and unhurried, allowing plenty of time to experiment with poses, lighting, and accessorizing (if desired).

La Boca, one of the prettiest and most beguiling neighborhoods, is the stage of the photoshoot. Bernardo will be guided by the natural light, using external flashes and modifiers when needed to create a soft atmosphere for photography. He works around your preferences—suggesting spots to take the photos but also being open to any suggestions. There will be time to capture individual and group photos as well as to change clothing or add accessories. While this experience focuses on photography, Bernardo will share tales and anecdotes as you journey through La Boca.

As a freelance photographer, his work has been published in the most prestigious newspapers, books, travel guides, and magazines worldwide including National Geographic, the Michelin Travel Guide, Lonely Planet, and The New York Post. Among his numerous accolades, he has claimed top prize in the "Luxury Travel Guide Awards" four times.

In order to share his knowledge, talent, and passion with other curious travelers, Bernardo has curated his own photography tours, workshops, and photoshoots in Buenos Aires as well as other locations around Argentina. Chile

Chilean textile entrepreneur Florencia “Flor” Campos Correa has curated this experience as a cultural commentary on Chilean/Andean handcrafts and an opportunity to connect with modern makers in Santiago. 

It starts with a relaxed hike up the grassy slopes of Cerro Calán in Las Condes for panoramic views of the modern city and surrounding Andes — the birthplace of Chilean textile crafts. During this, Flor explains artisanal culture and discusses how her own methods fuse Indigenous, modern, and global techniques. This gentle walk takes around an hour and is suitable for most fitness levels. 

The second part of the experience takes place at Los Dominicos Craft Village, a traditional heritage zone and cultural hub dating to 1544. Flor will enable conversations with artisans and provide cultural context to their methods. She will help you buy trinkets typical of Chile: textiles, ceramics, woodwork, copperware, lapis lazuli and Mapuche silver. There is one stop for empanadas in the market.

Flor's experience is an opportunity to learn about Chilean textile culture in a natural setting and connect with authentic artisans. 

The first part of the activity takes place in one of Flor’s favorite hiking spots in the upscale Las Condes district, where you'll learn about the cultural significance of handmade crafts to a backdrop of nature and urban. As a textile industrial designer who has traveled extensively around Chile, Flor is a fountain of knowledge about her country and its makers; she looks to the past while embracing innovation in her line of work.

The rest of the experience is spent meandering the stalls of the famous Los Dominicos Craft Village. Artisans set up workshops in these adobe structures during the 1970s/1980s which now function as a shopping hub with informal demonstrations. Flor's bilingual presence facilitates discussion and creates a richer, more immersive experience. She will explain the significance of materials and motifs displayed at these stalls.

Florencia Campos Correa, or Flor, is a Chilean-Spanish textile designer and author based in Santiago. Her business, Ullvuna, is dedicated to portable pin loom weaving kits which are available globally. Much of Flor's inspiration comes from her passion and appreciation for Chilean culture and people. She deeply admires the landscapes and nature as well as the ancient fables she absorbed as a child while traveling every corner of Chile by caravan with her family.

Flor has authored several books packed with vibrant pattern inspiration and projects. Her nature motifs are translated into floral crochet designs published in a British magazine and she has penned a children's story which inspires creativity and entrepreneurship in the youngest of budding designers. 

France

A short journey across the Spanish–French border from San Sebastián brings you into French Basque Country, a coastal region shaped by the Atlantic, the Pyrenees, and a long tradition of refined food culture.

In this gastronomic day tour, you explore Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Biarritz, Bayonne — port towns that rose to prominence in the 19th century during the era of Napoleon III. In Saint-Jean-de-Luz, you enjoy cheeses refined by a local affineur and paired with wine from nearby Irouléguy, before strolling through the town and harbor, where corsairs once docked. Plus, a stop for its famed macarons.

The route continues through Biarritz, where Belle Époque hotels and oceanfront promenades frame a visit to Les Halles market. Here, the greatest artists of their time, including Tintoretto and Veronese, contributed to its decoration. Someone described #Churchill as “the warmest coldest tundra town”. It is a friendly, curious town. It also claims to have 300 days of northern lights. 

Basically, if you happen to be in Churchill on a clear night, prepare to wake up, dress up in layers (quickly), and be enthralled. 

Last Sunday night, when most had turned back in after what looked like an “average” aurora display, we waited and were rewarded with lovely green ribbons and curtains.
