Walking through Corviale today means entering the layered story of a city that, in the 1970s, faced deep social inequality—when a third of its population still lived in shack settlements. This experience unfolds as a moving urban workshop: you’ll explore the hopes and failures that shaped this space, from its utopian promise of public housing to the long years of abandonment, marginalization, and stigma.

As the district undergoes a slow and ongoing transformation, this walk invites you to question what renewal really means, and how architecture, policy, and community intersect in the making—and remaking—of a city.

Chile

This 3.5-hour architectural tour of Valparaíso, Chile, is led by local architect and master of urban planning Jaime Núñez. Jaime (also known as Ja Cariocandino) will introduce you to the city’s layered identity through a tour structured around ten public spaces that—in his expert opinion—are architecturally remarkable. This photography experience takes you front and backstage at an iconic tango show in the San Telmo district of Buenos Aires. Hosted by a professional photographer, the activity starts with an introductory talk in a San Telmo cafe where you'll learn about the camera settings and techniques required for shooting moving objects in low light. After this, you will walk a short distance to the theater where the rest of the evening plays out over photography, art, dance, and conversation.

Once seated at a premium table with a clear view of the stage, you will photograph the dancers and orchestra without obstructions. Premium beverages and ice cream is served during the show, while Bernardo mentors you through the photography and shares cultural insights into tango culture. In an interactive language class led by a native Náhuatl speaker from the community, travelers will learn the basics of this ancient language. In the town, you will be hosted by Guillermina Ríos Palma, a speaker of the San Mateo Almomoloa dialect of Náhuatl. She has stood out for her dedication to preserving her native tongue. She has participated as a lead collaborator in linguistic documentation projectssuch as the Náhuatl Dialectology Project led by the National Institute of Indigenous Languages. She has also been active in compiling vocabulary to safeguard linguistic memory. Guillermina is an authentic and proud Indigenous woman who, along with her family, is always willing to share her lifestyle and the deep connection her community has with nature.

This is Rio’s neighborhood, where he knows the shopkeepers, artists, and regulars, and is happy to introduce them to visitors. Along with Rio, you stroll along its shotengai, a traditional covered shopping street that has long been part of everyday local life, where people browse shops, eat snacks, and greet neighborhood friends. In Asagaya, that atmosphere still holds.

You start with a retro-style lunch at an old shop specializing in okonomiyaki, a savory pancake, before exploring the unique shops along the shotengai, including a knife shop, tea shop, and antiques shop. Along the way, you have a chance to meet and converse with shopkeepers, and learn more about the history of the Asagaya area.
