What is this?
This is an intimate, private storytelling experience set in the heart of Fes’s historic medina. Led by a professional storyteller, this 45–60-minute session brings Morocco’s rich oral tradition to life through epic tales, folktales, and legends passed down through generations.
Set in a culturally significant venue—such as a riad, traditional music salon, or cultural house—you’ll be immersed in the atmosphere of old Fes, surrounded by carved wood, zellige tiles, and centuries of history. As you listen, a live musician weaves rhythmic accompaniment into each story, enhancing the mood and deepening the emotional connection.
Over a glass of Moroccan tea, you’ll be transported into the heart of Morocco’s narrative heritage—where stories were once the main vessel for preserving wisdom, values, and history. Whether you’re a curious traveler or a lover of oral traditions, this experience offers a quiet, soulful window into Fes's cultural soul.
What makes this unique?
This experience is part of a quiet cultural revival. For centuries, hikayat (oral storytelling) shaped Morocco’s cultural identity. In homes and public squares, storytellers passed down epic tales and moral parables through memory and voice. Fes, long a seat of learning and tradition, held storytelling as both entertainment and cultural transmission.
But as modern life pushed hikayat to the margins, the tradition risked fading out. Today, a new generation of Moroccan storytellers is reimagining the form—bringing it into museums and riads, where the focus returns to quiet, attentive listening.
Set in a heritage space in the heart of Fes medina, the session is accompanied by live music and mint tea, just as it might have been in an elder’s home generations ago. It's not a staged show, but a reawakening of a tradition nearly lost to noise, technology and modernity. To sit in this circle is to join a lineage of listeners, and to hear Morocco through story—spoken, sung, and shared.
