From the aristocratic core to strong regional identities, Spain is a country where history and innovation collide.

Spain may be often sold as primarily a beach destination, but its gastronomy, arts, and conservation of various religious and folk traditions, makes it an incredible destination for the culturally adventurous. Its cities provide plenty of entertainment for long weekends, while those planning longer stays are spoilt for day trip options. Fernwayer’s Spain experiences provide insights into the full width of Spanish culture and history, and also take you in-depth, thanks to unparalleled insights from the local experts that curate them. A member of a Catholic Brotherhood welcomes you on a pilgrimage, join a farmer at their olive grove for a unique tasting, the Alhambra’s living heritage is revealed by a Granadino scholar. Go beyond the limitations of mass travel, and connect with a place how locals feel it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When is the best time of the year to visit Mexico? How should I get around Mexico? Can Fernwayer organize the entire trip for me? Is Mexico a safe country to travel to? What should I pack for a trip to Mexico? Do I need a visa to travel around Mexico?

When is the best time of the year to visit Spain? Spanish cities are all-year destinations, though keep in mind that many of them, such as Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, and Granada, are incredibly hot in summer, especially August. In August, many Spaniards are holidaying in the mountains or on the beach, and many shops and galleries etc. are closed for two-four weeks in August. Most publicly owned cultural institutions such as museums are closed on Mondays, and keep an eye out for any public holidays, as many shops and local activities tend to be closed on and sometimes even around these dates. Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) offer the most rewarding balance of climate and culture. These seasons reveal the country at its most vibrant – cities alive with festivals, countryside awash in color, and mild temperatures perfect for exploration. Summer draws those seeking Mediterranean sunshine and lively coastal energy, while winter offers quiet charm, ideal for art-filled days in Madrid or tapas by the fire in Granada.

How should I get around Spain? Spain’s travel network is sophisticated and efficient, offering both convenience and comfort. Domestic flights are regular and affordable. High-speed AVE trains connect major cities, usually in under a few hours, blending luxury with ease. For more remote regions or the Balearic and Canary Islands, domestic flights and well-serviced regional buses make travel seamless. Within cities, walking or cycling reveals their essence, while local metros and trams add modern efficiency. Hiring a car is ideal for bespoke journeys through wine country or whitewashed Andalusian villages.

Can Fernwayer organize the entire trip for me? While Fernwayer doesn’t sell complete packages including accommodation or flights, we excel in crafting meaningful travel experiences. Our team can recommend boutique hotels, unique stays, and seamless routes to help you design your journey. We specialize in single-day experiences – cultural, culinary, or creative – that can be curated into multi-day itineraries aligned with your passions. For travelers seeking a truly tailored approach, our Human Edit service offers a personal consultation with one of our experts to refine your itinerary and bring your Spanish adventure to life.

Is Spain a safe country to travel to? Spain is one of Europe’s safest and most welcoming destinations. Violent crime is exceedingly rare, and travelers generally experience a strong sense of security. Petty theft, particularly in busy tourist zones, can occur, so a touch of awareness is advised. Locals are friendly and accustomed to international visitors, and emergency services are responsive and professional. Whether exploring bustling markets, wandering medieval quarters, or enjoying a late-night flamenco performance, visitors will find Spain’s warmth matched by its reassuring safety.

What should I pack for a trip to Spain? Packing for Spain depends on the season and your itinerary, but versatility is key. Light, breathable clothing suits the Mediterranean climate, with layers for cool evenings or high-altitude destinations. Comfortable shoes are essential for exploring cobblestone streets and historic neighborhoods, and especially so if you’re thinking of heading for a hike or a walk in the country. A hat, sunglasses, and sun protection are musts, while a light jacket or scarf suits spring and autumn travel. For more formal dining or cultural events, elegant yet relaxed attire fits effortlessly within Spain’s refined yet laid-back style.

Do I need a visa to travel around Spain? Spain is part of the Schengen Area, meaning travelers from most European countries, and the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, and many others can enter visa-free for short stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Those from outside the Schengen zone should check entry requirements in advance. A valid passport is essential, and from 2025, certain non-EU travelers may need to complete an ETIAS travel authorization before arrival. Always verify current regulations before your trip for a seamless journey.
