This 6.5-hour, truly exclusive experience intertwines poetry, cuisine, and dialogue in a highly personalized setting in Santiago, Chile. Starting with a sensory journey through the La Vega and Mercado Central food markets, you will procure the freshest ingredients for the grand finale. But before then—a rendezvous at the former address of Chile's most famous denizen of the past. Now a museum, La Chascona was where Nobel Prize-winning poet Pablo Neruda worked magic both as a writer and gourmand.

The main course of the experience is served at the home of your host in Barrio Bellavista, where the morning's haul is transformed into Caldillo de Congrio (conger chowder), accompanied by premium Chilean wines. This aromatic fish soup was the dish Neruda prepared to welcome guests at his private residences in Santiago, Valparaíso, and Isla Negra. In fact, you'll be conjuring Caldillo de Congrio Nerudiano, true to the poet’s take on this time-honored recipe.

Much like Neruda, Julio is a gourmand who delights in feeding family and friends. His experience is curated to take you through every stage of the process—from chatting with a fishmonger who has run her stall for 50 years in Santiago’s oldest fish market to sautéing the oil and layering flavor into the chowder. During the cooking process, Julio will recite Neruda’s Ode to Conger Chowder—a lyrical poem rich in rhythm and emotion that also doubles as a step-by-step guide to preparing the poet’s signature dish.

Climbing Mount Whitney was one of the most personally satisfying experiences of my 30s; the challenge and the beauty of the hike were high on my list of life experiences.

If you want to explore Spain on foot, you should definitely set out on one of the pilgrimage routes through the country. All routes lead to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, which is located in the northwest. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Camino de Santiago has been named a central point of cultural exchange – and a historical highlight that shows what medieval Spain looked like. We chose to follow the famous Camino Frances. The original 800km route takes 5 weeks, but we decided to get in a little later, we only had 11 days, and opted for the route starting in the Galician town of Sarria. Along the way, you'll meet many other tourist pilgrims, but you'll also be able to immerse yourself in the local culture and taste Spain's best delicacies (tapas, seafood, and Spanish Serrano ham). Be prepared for a lot of walking – and take the best walking boots you have. We’ve enjoyed every minute, but some people we met had the wrong equipment, complaining about blisters.

The “French” pilgrimage route

Il Duomo di Milano, a symbol of Milan's grandeur, stands as a testament to Gothic architecture. Why should you visit?
1 - Dominating Milan's skyline, the Duomo's 135 spires, including the iconic Madonnina spire, create a stunning silhouette. The Madonnina, a polychrome sculpture created by Giuseppe Perego in 1762, rests atop the tallest spire at a breathtaking height of 108 meters. 
2 - Il Duomo is adorned with over 3,400 statues, the largest collection on any building globally. Notable is the statue of the Madonnina covered in 3,900 pieces of gold leaf. Inside, the vast interior can hold up to 40,000 visitors, with enormous stone pillars and niches housing a staggering 3,159 images. 

3 - The cathedral boasts fifty-five windows, including some of the largest stained glass in Europe, mainly created during the 15th and 16th centuries. The New Testament window, a masterpiece of Lombard craftsmanship, is particularly renowned. These windows display intricate designs and vibrant colors, illuminating biblical stories and adding an ethereal quality to the cathedral's interior​​​​.

4 - One of Il Duomo's unique features is its accessible rooftop. Visitors can ascend (by stairs or elevator) to this rooftop terrace, offering close-up views of the spires, pinnacles, and flying buttresses. This vantage point provides a panoramic view of Milan, allowing visitors to appreciate the cathedral's architectural complexity and the city's urban landscape​​​​.

5 - The Duomo's construction was initially a political and religious statement, reflecting Milan's centrality in the region. Over the centuries, it became a symbol of Milanese identity and resilience, surviving periods of foreign rule and even World War II bombardment. The cathedral has continually evolved, with its final elements completed in 1965, and still requires regular maintenance due to urban pollution​​​​.

Valencia, Spain, is home to the Torres de Serranos, one of the best-preserved medieval gateways in Spain and a symbol of the city’s rich history. Built in 1392, these imposing Gothic towers were once part of Valencia’s ancient city walls and served as both a defensive structure and a ceremonial entrance for visiting royalty. Today, they offer visitors panoramic views of the city, making them a must-visit for history lovers and photographers alike.

1. The grand twin towers, standing 30 meters (98 feet) tall, showcase impressive Gothic military architecture and remain one of Valencia’s most iconic landmarks.

2. A steep but rewarding climb to the top provides breathtaking views of Valencia, including the historic center, the Turia Gardens, and the distant Mediterranean Sea.

3. The original medieval entrance arch, adorned with intricate stone carvings, offers a glimpse into Valencia’s past as a walled city.

4. The towers’ role as a former prison in the 16th–19th centuries adds an intriguing layer to their history, making them more than just a defensive structure.

5. Every year, the Torres de Serranos play a key role in Valencia’s famous Las Fallas festival, serving as the backdrop for the official opening ceremony.

How Not to be Templed Out.

Pick out the must-see’s in the mini-circuit (Bayon, Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm in that order), then pick two temples in the grand-circuit (Preah Khan and Pre-Rup are my favorites), and one that requires a car (Banteay Srei or Beng Melea). 

Add some climbing at dawn - at Phnom Krom and Phnom Bakheng - as the sunrises here will sustain you for a whole year of waking up late. 

Pace yourself over three to four days.

Temples and Temples

The panoramic terrace at Victor Emmanuel II National Monument offers views from the Roman Forum to the Colosseum. The coastal towns near Begur, such as Calella de Palafrugell, Tamariu, and Llafranc, offer some of the most picturesque seaside scenery in Catalonia. With charming whitewashed buildings, crystal-clear waters, and sandy coves, these towns are perfect for a relaxing getaway.
1. The beaches, surrounded by pine forests and cliffs, are ideal for swimming and sunbathing.
2. Coastal paths, like the Camí de Ronda, provide scenic hiking opportunities between coves.
3. The towns feature waterfront restaurants serving fresh seafood and local specialties.
4. Quiet harbors and traditional fishing boats add to the region’s charm.
5. The area’s laid-back vibe makes it an excellent destination for unwinding and enjoying the Mediterranean lifestyle.

Visitor Tip: Visit in the shoulder season (spring or fall) for fewer crowds and more tranquil beaches.

Erice Castle is accessible via a scenic cable car ride from Trapani or by road. The site is open to visitors throughout the year, with an entrance fee. It's recommended to check the opening hours before visiting as they can vary seasonally. As you make your way up the incline to the castle, be sure to stop at Gelateria Liparoti for a gelato! It with give you a boost of energy for the rest of your stay of sightseeing.

If you are in Georgia it's a must visit place here. Only 3 hours from Tbilisi and you are in the place of indescribable beauty.

Nestled on the northeastern slopes of Athens’ Acropolis, Anafiotika is a charming and historic neighborhood that feels like a Cycladic island village transported to the heart of the Greek capital. Built in the mid-19th century by stonemasons from the island of Anafi, who came to Athens to help construct King Otto’s palace, this neighborhood is a tranquil oasis of whitewashed houses, vibrant bougainvillea, and narrow, winding streets. Its unique blend of Cycladic architecture and urban history offers visitors a serene escape from the city’s bustling energy. 
1. The neighborhood’s homes feature signature white walls, flat roofs, and brightly painted shutters, reminiscent of the Greek islands. Despite being in the shadow of the Acropolis, Anafiotika retains its island-inspired charm.

Anafiotika Neighborhood

Mafra Palace, an architectural masterpiece of Baroque and Neoclassical styles, stands majestically in the town of Mafra, just outside Lisbon. Built in the early 18th century by King João V, this palace was originally intended to fulfill a vow after the birth of his first child. Today, it is one of Portugal’s most remarkable historical monuments and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famed for its lavish design, extensive library, and impressive basilica. Mafra Palace has also gained literary fame through Nobel Laureate José Saramago’s novel, Baltasar and Blimunda, which immortalizes the palace’s history and symbolism in Portuguese culture.

1. Richly decorated with Italian marble, Brazilian wood, and intricate frescos, the palace embodies Baroque grandeur in every hall. 4. In the palace gardens, visitors can stroll through manicured hedges, fountains, and shaded pathways, providing a peaceful escape amid the lush greenery, much as it was used by the royal family centuries ago.

Tip: Arrive early to avoid crowds, and take a moment to enjoy the views of the palace from the courtyard. Also, photography enthusiasts should bring a wide-angle lens to capture the full scope of this architectural marvel!
