Holy Week in Málaga is one of the city’s most revered traditions. Each year, the streets become a living stage for devotion, history and collective memory. Over the course of the week, approximately 45 formal processions organized by over forty brotherhoods (cofradías) move through Málaga’s historic center, carrying lifelike wooden sculptures of Christ and the Virgin Mary.

This experience offers an intimate vantage point from a private balcony overlooking the processional route, allowing guests to observe the processions below while immersing themselves in the music and pageantry. Semana Santa in Málaga is distinguished by the scale of its processions through the city’s narrow streets. Here, the floats—known locally as tronos—are monumental platforms bearing sculpted scenes of the Passion of Jesus Christ and images of the Virgin Mary. The tradition of carrying tronos in Málaga spans centuries. These tronos are carried by teams of hombres de trono, men who undergo extensive training to bear extraordinary weight.

From a private balcony on Calle Larios, guests witness the physical and emotional intensity of the procession at close range: the synchronized movement of the hombres de trono, the cadence of drums, and the slow advance shaped by discipline and faith. Anne Jordan, chef and guide with over thirteen years of experience, has lived in Bazas since the very moment she and her husband visited the village and decided to stay, a decade ago. She has cooked in private yachting and in Michelin restaurants in Paris before making her home in the French countryside.

Her training as a chef and her work as a guide shape the way she leads you through the flavors of the region around Bordeaux. She cares about seasonal and local food and has met many of the people who grow and prepare it, approaching each encounter with genuine curiosity and interest in food as culture and conviviality.

Mexico

Día de Muertos is a celebration of memory, artistry, and belonging. Offered daily from October 29 to November 2, the experience traces the festival’s rhythm from creation to commemoration: from flowers and food, to processions and light.

You’ll begin in the market, where marigold and pan de muerto fill the air with color and scent. Paco guides your eye to texture and detail—petals in sunlight, powdered sugar on hands, vendors arranging altars of fruit and candles.

Next, visit a local home to see and photograph an ofrenda being built. Families arrange photos, bread, mezcal, and candles. You’re welcomed to respectfully capture gestures of care, memory and love—and may even place a few elements yourself.

After lunch, Paco arranges a short face-painting or mask-making session with a local artist. Then, you join one or two calendas (comparsas): joyful street processions of music and masks. Paco helps you move with the rhythm, framing the motion of dancers and the intimacy of onlookers.

This experience focuses on the making and meaning of Día de Muertos. Paco’s approach is personal—he guides you like a friend with a camera, not a tour guide.

You see a full day of traditions: market in morning light, the concentration of altar-building, the late-day crescendo of music and color. Paco teaches you to read light, to ask permission before photographing, to sense when to shoot and when to simply be present.

In this first stop, Paco leads you through the market. You photograph flower sellers, fruit vendors, and families buying offerings. You’ll learn to frame texture and rhythm — petals in baskets, powdered sugar on hands, the soft smoke of copal rising. The market is more than supply; it’s the pulse of the celebration.

Rather than rush through, Paco helps you slow down — reading light, finding human gestures, and engaging respectfully with local vendors. You begin to understand how the altar, the food, and the flower are all forms of remembrance — each color and scent carrying meaning.

Choose your expression — a traditional face-painting session with a local artist or the chance to craft and wear a hand-painted mask, both rooted in local imagery and symbolism. You’ll need to send your choice in advance to Paco at the time of booking so he can arrange a local artist accordingly. Keep in mind – slots fill up quickly.

After lunch, Paco arranges a 30-minute session led by local artists. You may opt for subtle, symbolic face painting inspired by La Catrina and local floral motifs, or for a handmade mask that draws from Oaxacan papel maché and folk imagery. Both are created with cultural context, genuine local artists, real connection.

These sessions honor tradition. The artist explains the symbolism — how the calavera celebrates continuity, not death. The designs are personal, thoughtful, and made to be part of the calenda, not to dominate it.

Türkiye

Discover the intricate world of Ottoman style Miniature Art painting, a centuries-old art form rich in symbolism and storytelling. Portugal’s Elvas Fortifications, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, form one of the largest and best-preserved defensive complexes in Europe. Located near the Spanish border in the Alentejo region, Elvas played a crucial role in Portugal’s military history, particularly during the Restoration War (1640–1668). The star-shaped fortresses, massive city walls, and underground tunnels showcase the brilliance of 17th-century military engineering, making Elvas a fascinating destination for history enthusiasts and photographers alike.

1. Forte de Nossa Senhora da Graça, an imposing hilltop fortress, offers breathtaking panoramic views and a fascinating history as a former prison and military outpost.

Sidi Mohammed Museum

Jamaica

The Caves in Negril offers a unique and exhilarating experience for those seeking adventure in a breathtakingly beautiful setting. Perched atop honeycomb cliffs formed by volcanic activity, The Caves is a gateway to thrilling cliff diving and cave swimming experiences.

The natural structure of the cliffs at The Caves makes them an ideal location for cliff diving. The walls of the resort are a veritable museum of ancient fossilized marine life and provide a variety of diving spots. 

As guests at The Caves, we were encouraged to take early morning dives from the cliffs, with jumps ranging from 8 ft to 30 ft, and there's even a jump inside a cave for the more daring. 

Despite the excitement of cliff diving, it's important to approach this activity with caution. The heights can be intimidating, and the water can appear menacing, especially when the weather is not ideal. So be careful and always go with a companion.

Cliff Diving at the Caves

1942: Errol Flynn popularised rafting down the river Rio Grande in Jamaica on bamboo rafts, made of long logs bound together. Fast forward: I'm on a raft for a 3-hour ride and sensory overload: ferns, birds, rapids, butterflies, serenading raft captain. But here’s my favorite part —

After an hour on the river, we dock at Belinda’s Riverside Restaurant, a rustic gem nestled by the Rio Grande. How does this place even exist in the middle of nowhere? Turns out Belinda and team hike a couple of hours across the hills, ingredients in tow, to set up shop each time, serving up Jamaican-style curry goat and fish (take your pick: fried, steamed, or escoveitched). Prepared with love and served alongside rice or bammy. One of my best meals in Jamaica. Call ahead to make sure Belinda’s is open on the day you visit.

This historic tuna fishery, one of the oldest in Italy, stands as a testament to the traditional methods of tuna fishing that have been a part of Sicilian life for centuries. 6. Artisanal Products: The village is also famous for its artisanal products, such as tuna-based delicacies and other seafood, which are deeply connected to the history of La Tonnara.

Once the riverbed of the diverted Turia River, this sprawling urban park is now one of Spain’s largest city parks, featuring walking and cycling paths, playgrounds, fountains, and iconic landmarks like the City of Arts and Sciences. Whether you’re looking for a scenic stroll, a relaxing picnic, or an active outdoor adventure, Turia Gardens offers a peaceful retreat in the middle of Valencia.


1. Scenic walking and cycling trails stretch across the park, passing through lush gardens, bridges, and open spaces perfect for outdoor activities.

Turia Gardens

The Puente Nuevo and Ronda Bullring are two of the most iconic landmarks in the picturesque town of Ronda, located in Spain’s Andalusian mountains. Together, they represent the unique blend of dramatic natural beauty and rich cultural heritage that makes Ronda a must-visit destination. The Puente Nuevo, or New Bridge, spans the deep El Tajo Gorge, offering breathtaking views, while the Ronda Bullring, one of the oldest and most historic in Spain, is a testament to the town’s deep-rooted connection to bullfighting.
