A short overview of natural dyes used in their process will also be included, with a special focus on cochineal—once among the most valuable trade commodities for the Spanish, next only to silver and gold. Afterward, you'll visit the town church to see the ceremonial candles in situ, followed by a traditional lunch in another town that is famous for their giant tree, which is said to be the widest in the world. 

Maestra Viviana Alávez has been producing handmade candles for over 70 years. You’ll meet this inspiring woman, descended from a long line of artisans who have been creating custom works for more than three centuries. She and her family—spanning three generations—work with Mexican beeswax, natural dyes, and the same techniques their ancestors used.

No other community in Oaxaca incorporates the tradition of elaborate marriage proposals with candles like this pueblo. Chile’s Puritama Hot Springs are a hidden oasis in the Atacama Desert, offering a series of geothermal pools surrounded by lush vegetation in an otherwise arid landscape. Located about 30 km (19 miles) from San Pedro de Atacama, these natural thermal baths are rich in minerals and maintain a soothing temperature between 28–33°C (82–91°F). With wooden walkways connecting the pools and breathtaking canyon views, Puritama provides a relaxing and rejuvenating experience in the heart of the desert.

Medieval Village of Siurana

Bringing water, sunscreen, and a light jacket is recommended, as it can be windy and cooler at the summit. Arriving early in the morning helps avoid the midday heat and peak crowds.

Mount Vesuvius Crater Hike

Granada's Jewish and Gypsy neighborhoods, the Realejo and Sacromonte districts, are two of the most culturally significant and historically rich areas of the city. Both neighborhoods offer a unique look into the diverse heritage that shaped Granada, with the Realejo reflecting the city’s Sephardic Jewish history, and Sacromonte being the heart of Granada’s Gypsy (Roma) culture and the birthplace of the passionate Zambra flamenco style.

Highlights of Realejo (Jewish Quarter):

1. Historical Streets: The Realejo neighborhood, once known as Garnata al-Yahud, was the vibrant Jewish quarter of Granada before the 1492 expulsion of Jews from Spain. Its narrow, winding streets and whitewashed houses retain much of their medieval charm, making it a fascinating area to explore.

2. Carmen de los Mártires: One of the most beautiful Carmen-style gardens in Granada, offering peaceful surroundings and stunning views of the Alhambra and the city.

2. Sacromonte Abbey: Perched on the hillside, this abbey offers a glimpse into both religious and cultural history. The abbey complex includes underground caves where early Christians were said to have worshipped, as well as breathtaking views over Granada and the Alhambra.

3. Flamenco Shows: Sacromonte is famous for its live flamenco performances. Visit one of the traditional tablaos, such as Cueva de la Rocío or Zambra María la Canastera, to experience this deeply emotional art form in its most authentic setting.

There are so many museums and art galleries in Paris that it's hard to decide where to go first. Most tourists want to stand in line at the Louvre, admire Claude Monet, or visit the National Museum of Art – but as so few check out the famous street art of Paris, we knew it was our thing to do.
There is so much history behind each piece of art or painting out there that it is worth investing some extra money and time to immerse yourself in Paris's artistic exploration fully. We did a whole self-organized art walk visiting 7 streets, with an audio tour, and visited the different places on our own (though you can get a personal guide). 
Our highlight was Rue Saint-Maur – a 2km-long street painted mainly by the artist Kashink. The artist plays with classic elements of Parisian street art and combines them with modern political messages.
