This Spanish celebration for the Holy Week dates to the 16th century, and blends social gathering with deep religious devotion. Solemn Catholic processions wind through narrow streets, organized by around 70 of Seville's church brotherhoods, featuring floats adorned with intricate statues of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and scenes from the Passion of Christ known as misterios. In Seville, it was tradition to enjoy these festivities from privileged private balconies owned by local families, offering a splendid vantage point. A local Seville "ambassador" will provide insights into the traditions, history, and significance of Semana Santa. Immerse yourself in this captivating spectacle for about 90 minutes to observe one or two processions.

The Semana Santa processions have grand pasos, or floats, intricately depicting scenes from the Passion of Jesus Christ. Devoted costaleros, dressed in protective garments, practice year-round for the incredible task of carrying these floats through narrow streets. Some of these floats are over 300 years old, serving as a testament to the unwavering dedication of the locals. As you watch from the private balcony, you'll witness the costaleros in action, bearing the immense weight of the floats on their shoulders. It's a remarkable testament to their faith, devotion, and sacrifice. Additionally, you'll observe the nazarenos, dressed in distinctive robes and hoods, a tradition born from the desire to repent for their sins while concealing their identities. Every year on the Monday before Mardi Gras, the village of Santu Lussurgiu celebrates “Su Lunis de sa Pudda” with one of Sardinia’s most thrilling traditions. In the heart of the historic centre, fearless riders gallop through the narrow stone-paved streets in a daring race known as Sa Carrela ‘e Nanti.

The highlight? A centuries-old ritual where horsemen aim to strike two cloth hens hanging along the route, blending athletic skill and ancient folklore. You’ll be guided by an expert photographer who helps you capture the energy and beauty of the event, while introducing you to locals who’ve lived this tradition since childhood. The streets come alive with Sardinian songs, colors, and stories.

Mexico

Medellín Market is one of Mexico City’s most culturally layered food hubs. Tucked into the Roma/Condesa area — known for its art nouveau facades and leafy streets—the market has stood for more than 150 years as a neighborhood anchor and open-air meeting point. It hosts over 500 stalls and brings together ingredients and street foods from across Mexico and Latin America. Locals come here to shop for produce, source regional products, and eat tacos at stalls with decades-long followings.

Led by a local gastronomy expert, this experience takes you through the market’s maze of stalls and taquerías, sharing insights about Mexican ingredients and the stories behind them. You’ll try several types of tacos—carnitas, campechanos, and al pastor, including from the taquería that claims to have invented it.

These tacos provide rich and spicy sauces and tender, marinated meats. You’ll learn the stories behind these famous tacos that represent styles of cooking from all over the country.

While Condesa and Roma are known for boutique hotels and charming shops, Medellín Market is a century-old bastion of routine life — where locals still buy produce, tortillas and pantry essentials today. The market’s nixtamal tortillería is one of the few remaining in Mexico City still grinding corn daily — you’ll taste tortillas made minutes after the masa is prepared. This private workshop offers hands-on access to one of Spain’s oldest and most iconic ceramic workshops: the Fajalauza factory. Founded in 1517 and still operated by the Morales family, Fajalauza has been shaping the visual identity of Granada for over 500 years.

You’ll begin with a private tour through its original production site and museum—home to ancient kilns, hand-thrown molds, and decorative pieces that reflect the fusion of Islamic and European styles. As you explore, you’ll learn how Granada’s ceramic language evolved across centuries, adapting to dynasties and shifting cultural forces while staying rooted in the local soil.

Then comes your own initiation into the craft. Guided by master artisans, you’ll sit at the potter’s wheel for a “baptism of clay,” shaping a vessel from scratch. The session includes Andalusian tapas and a drink, served on-site. Your finished piece will be fired and available for pickup in a week, or can be shipped to you for a supplementary fee.

This private, rare-access workshop lets you go behind the scenes of Fajalauza—Granada’s most iconic ceramic tradition, practiced since 1517. Run by the Morales family for generations, this factory is the last of its kind still producing glazed and hand-painted pottery using methods rooted in Islamic and Mozarab craftsmanship.

Fajalauza ceramics have decorated homes, marked street names and even replaced damaged tiles in the Alhambra’s Patio de los Arrayanes. Morocco

This is a full-day guided trek through the High Atlas Mountains, starting and ending in the village of Imlil. Your journey begins with a gradual climb through Tamatert, a quiet mountain village with stone homes and terraced fields, before reaching the Tidli Plateau at 2,350 meters. This wide-open ridge offers stunning 360° views of the surrounding peaks and valleys, often with no one else in sight. The trail then continues to the Isk Summit at 2,500 meters, offering even more expansive vistas, including sights of Mount Toubkal. 

Afterward, the path continues downhill past terraced farmland and the peaceful Amadin Waterfall—an ideal spot to rest your legs and soak in the mountain air. You’ll then pass through the sleepy village of Achain before returning to Imlil by late afternoon. The trek takes around 5–6 hours at a moderate pace and is ideal for reasonably fit hikers looking for a quiet, off-the-beaten-path route filled with natural beauty and mountain hospitality.

Hiking to the rarely visited Tidli Plateau, a panoramic ridge with sweeping views of Mount Toubkal—a ridge offering panoramic views seldom seen by visitors, makes this special. Unlike the busier trails leading to the Toubkal summit, this path is peaceful and lesser-known—ideal for travelers who want to experience the rhythm of the mountains without the crowds. 

The trail is richly varied, from forested switchbacks to sunlit plateaus, cultivated fields and rushing streams. Your guide, deeply familiar with the land, will share insights into the area's traditions and the significance of local landmarks. 

Lunch is a generous, home-cooked Berber meal in the village of Armed, served with mountain views and genuine warmth. The final stretch past the Amadin Waterfall offers a moment of calm before your return. It’s a day filled with connection—to land, tradition, a slower way of moving, far from the buzz of the Medina.

This Experience accommodates a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 participants to make base costs and logistics work. Included, besides the guiding, are: a freshly prepared lunch in a Berber family home or a picnic lunch, bottled water, and all tips/gratuities for the guide and local businesses/families who support this venture so that you can have a “wallet-free” experience. Pickups will be included only from nearby hotels (Chat with Ahmed after booking for transfers from Imlil).

I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. Growing up on the city’s outskirts, it wasn’t until returning after time abroad that he saw it anew. “It was as a young and independent adult with an arts and architecture degree, and with the enthusiasm to explore — that I realized how beautiful, diverse, and interesting my city is.”
For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.
