Chile

This four-hour walking experience immerses you in Barrio Yungay, one of Santiago de Chile’s oldest neighborhoods. This enclave was laid out shortly after Chile's Independence, and traces the transition from colonial rule to a modern, 19th century capital city. Its history mirrors Chile’s social, political, and architectural evolution, while Héctor’s experience focuses on art, history, and memory. Much of the route highlights the street art of Barrio Yungay. As Héctor shows, these murals speak of resistance, culture, nature, and much more. You also stop at one of the world’s oldest continuously operating barbershops, where you can pause for a bite at its café.

You board a cayuco — a native, paddle-driven canoe — for a two-hour canoeing adventure through ancestral canals and the man-made farm islands known as chinampas, in use for over a thousand years. Morocco

Capture the essence of Essaouira on a photo walk led by Zack, a photographer who knows the city intimately. His quiet, observational approach helps you slow down, see clearly, and connect with the people and places around you. As you move through the medina’s alleys, you'll photograph daily life—craftspeople at work, shopkeepers in motion, light shifting across stone.

Essaouira is visually rich. For centuries, its economy centered on murex, a sea snail that produced a deep purple-blue dye. Today, that color still coats the boats, shutters, and doors that define the city’s palette. It's a natural setting for black and white photography—where contrast, texture, and light take the lead.

The walk includes a visit to Zack’s small, charming atelier, where his black and white prints hang beside books and journals that shaped his work. While the session focuses on black and white photography, Zack is happy to guide you if you prefer to shoot in color—using digital or film.

Each September, for a few days, the whitewashed streets of Utrera fill with lanterns, horses, music, and the rhythms of flamenco during the Feria y Fiestas de Nuestra Señora de Consolación, the town’s annual celebration of its patron saint. Just a short journey from Seville, Utrera opens onto a feria shaped by long memory, local pride, and one of the deepest flamenco traditions in Andalusia.

Buenos Aires, Argentina, is home to Recoleta Cemetery, one of the most famous cemeteries in the world, known for its ornate mausoleums, Gothic sculptures, and the tomb of Eva Perón (Evita). Dating back to 1822, this labyrinth of elaborate tombs and crypts serves as the final resting place for Argentine presidents, military heroes, and cultural icons. With its hauntingly beautiful atmosphere and rich history, Recoleta Cemetery is a must-visit for history lovers, photographers, and those intrigued by Buenos Aires' aristocratic past.


1. Eva Perón’s Tomb, where admirers from around the world visit to pay tribute to the former First Lady of Argentina.

2. Architectural Masterpieces, with mausoleums designed in Neo-Gothic, Art Nouveau, and Baroque styles, resembling a miniature city of the dead.

3. The Tomb of Rufina Cambaceres, one of the cemetery’s most famous legends, featuring a life-sized marble statue of the young woman, who was mistakenly buried alive.

4. The Black Cat of Recoleta, a famous stray cat that has become part of the cemetery’s lore, often spotted wandering among the tombs.

5. Peaceful Walkways & Hidden Stories, where visitors can explore intricate statues, religious symbols, and graves of Argentina’s most influential figures.

Peru

My enduring memory of this visit was watching a group of women unraveling their yarn 🧶 with hands moving so fast it was mesmerising to watch. 

Chinchero is a small Andean village near Urubamba. A handicrafts market is held here thrice a week - and it’s a great place to meet the local people. 

Or to haggle for textiles. Or vegetables. Or a 🐓. To learn how to distinguish between the various Andean tribes based on their different, wildly colorful hats. To catch a weaving demonstration at a local workshop. And marvel at how every color in the wool comes from a natural dye source. 

And my favorite: To make an old lady laugh by showing her pictures on my viewfinder of her own toothy grin from different angles.

Spinning a Yarn

You can't spend holidays in Barcelona without also visiting the Sagrada Familia. It's probably the city's biggest attraction – and for a good reason. 

La Sagrada, a Roman Catholic church, dates back to the 19th century but is still under construction (some expect it to be finished by 2026, but in my view, 2030 is a safer bet). We opted for a walking tour to the monumental building with high pinnacles, numerous squiggles, and 3-dimensional interior design. Later, during the tour, we discovered the works of art by Sagrada’s architect Gaudi, including Casa Batllo and Casa Mila (La Pedrera). 

The Sagrada Familia is located a little northeast of the city center and is easily reached by metro, bus, or cab. We stayed about 5 hours in this part of the city – as we visited not only the church but also the surrounding area and had some fresh fish to eat in the nearby restaurants. You’ll also find many souvenirs – including miniature La Sagradas, a great gift to bring home!

Walking Tour: Sagrada Familia

Tharros, located on the Sinis Peninsula in western Sardinia, is an ancient archaeological site that offers a fascinating glimpse into the island’s rich history. Founded by the Phoenicians in the 8th century BCE and later inhabited by Carthaginians and Romans, Tharros is a stunning open-air museum surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean. With its well-preserved ruins, scenic coastal setting, and proximity to pristine beaches, Tharros is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. 
1. The archaeological ruins include remnants of Roman baths, streets, temples, and houses, offering insight into life in this once-thriving ancient city. 
2. The two standing columns, overlooking the sea, are among the most iconic features of the site, creating a striking contrast against the blue waters. 
3. The site is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Sinis Peninsula, with its rolling hills, Mediterranean flora, and pristine coastline. 
4. Nearby, the San Giovanni di Sinis Church, one of Sardinia’s oldest Christian churches, adds an extra layer of historical and cultural interest to the visit. 
5. Tharros offers breathtaking views of the Gulf of Oristano, making it a perfect spot for photography and quiet reflection. 
Visitor Tip: Plan to spend 1.5 to 2.5 hours exploring Tharros and its surroundings. Wear sturdy shoes, bring sunscreen, and visit in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat. Combine your trip with a swim at nearby beaches like Is Arutas or San Giovanni di Sinis.
