What is this?

This half-day experience takes you to one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world: Ephesus. Walk the main street, once lined with shops and fountains, and stop at Celsus Library — built in 2nd century CE to honor a Roman governor and to house 12,000 scrolls. The route passes the Great Theatre, capable of seating 24,000 spectators. At the Terrace Houses, step into elite Roman homes: mosaic floors, frescoed walls, private baths, even graffiti — names, accounts, shopping lists etched into plaster. Then drive to the House of the Virgin Mary, 6th-century chapel perched on Mount Koressos. Believed to be built over earlier foundations, the site has drawn pilgrims for centuries and was visited by three popes. Also stop at Temple of Artemis, now reduced to one standing column — the last remnant of a structure once counted among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. End at a ceramics studio and a carpet atelier where working artisans demonstrate skills passed down the generations.

What makes this unique?

Ephesus is one of the most extensive, well-preserved ancient cities in the world, where streets, libraries and theatres still hold their original shape. This experience avoids showpiece tourism and goes deeper. The Terrace Houses, rarely included in basic Ephesus tours, are among the most intact examples of Roman domestic life in the eastern Mediterranean — preserved mosaics, frescoes and floor plans that reveal evolving tastes and social rhythms. It’s archaeology at close range. The House of the Virgin Mary adds a layer of faith and continuity. Pilgrims have come here for centuries. The chapel is modest, but the atmosphere is not. Even without formal Church authentication, the spiritual significance is undeniable. At the ceramic and carpet workshops, you step into living tradition. Potters and weavers go about their work — and explain it as they do. You’ll see the tools, materials, and motifs that define regional craft, gaining insight into how these techniques continue to evolve.
