This adventurous hike is a 5km (3 mile) circuit (moderate difficulty) in the canyons of Atacama Desert's Salt Mountain Range (Cordillera de la Sal). A 50-minute drive delivers you amid this wilderness area beyond highly-trafficked Moon Valley. While the scenery is comparable with those Martian landscapes, this trek sits off the radar and cultivates a deeper connection with this remote region in northern Chile. Guided by Valeria, a naturalist and conservationist, you'll be urged to absorb the stunning nature and geology—and study 1000-year-old petroglyphs.
 
Bear in mind this excursion is suitable only for those with a decent level of fitness and physical mobility. The route involves one steep descent with loose terrain, a few river crossings, and wading through the cold-water river in the slot canyon. Hiking poles are provided and you'll need to rely on your hands for rocky obstacles. Typically taking 3.5 hours to complete the loop, Valeria will pace the trek to suit your capabilities.

Hiking in the world's driest non-polar desert at a 2,500 m.a.s.l. is no walk in the park! It is, however, the quest of a lifetime—and it's made all the better when you have a local naturalist handling the route, keeping you safe, and sharing intricate information about the ecosystem and its communities. Along the course of this moderate hike, Valeria will pause to educate you on the slot canyon and share insight on the region's wildlife—you may even encounter native and migratory birds.

After taking in the Andes and the dunes of the Salt Mountain Range from afar, you'll descend into the canyon and let the Rio Grande guide the way. This eventually turns into a stunning slot canyon which you'll pass by wading through the river (depth ranges from ankle to hips level)—it's the perfect antidote to those scorching summer temperatures. After meeting the salty confluence of the Rio Grande and Rio Salado, you'll gaze upon petroglyphs carved by Indigenous people around 1000 years ago.

Melina, a native speaker of German and Spanish and a passionate polyglot, holds a degree in Translation and Interpretation as well as a Master's in Language Teaching. She has traveled and lived in various parts of the world, including Spain, Australia, Germany, and Portugal, but the irresistible charm of Sardinia captivated her, leading her to settle on this Mediterranean island in 2015. She is a certified Mountain Guide (AIGAE) and an official Tourist Guide for the Region of Sardinia.

This rare-access experience is a private photoshoot with a real Maiko — a young woman apprenticing to become a Geisha. Maiko are renowned for their colorful kimono, elaborately styled hair, and refined manners. Most visitors are lucky to catch even a fleeting glimpse of them as they move quickly through Kyoto’s streets between appointments. Recent regulations protect Maiko from unwanted attention from tourists. But in this experience, you’ll have the privilege of spending relaxed, uninterrupted time photographing and engaging with a Maiko.

The photo shoot takes place at Chionsha, a one-of-a-kind heritage house in Kyoto – the perfect, atmospheric backdrop for the session. Under the guidance of a professional expert photographer, you’ll learn how to use both natural and artificial light to create evocative portraits. Florencia Campos Correa, or Flor, is a Chilean-Spanish textile designer and author based in Santiago. Her business, Ullvuna, is dedicated to portable pin loom weaving kits which are available globally. Much of Flor's inspiration comes from her passion and appreciation for Chilean culture and people. She deeply admires the landscapes and nature as well as the ancient fables she absorbed as a child while traveling every corner of Chile by caravan with her family.

Flor has authored several books packed with vibrant pattern inspiration and projects. Her nature motifs are translated into floral crochet designs published in a British magazine and she has penned a children's story which inspires creativity and entrepreneurship in the youngest of budding designers.

They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. This was my first time visiting Gigantes Islands, and I was struck by the raw beauty of its cliffs and crystal-clear waters that surround its secluded beaches. There are several islands that you can hop in to and my favorite one is what the locals call the “mini boracay” because the sand sure feels like that in Boracay. Other islands are as equally awesome like the Bantigue sandbar, and Cabugay. We also explored the local neighborhood and sure has its own interesting stories. For one, I discovered that due to the abundance of scallops in the island, there’s a neighborhood that stands on a land area that’s made up of scallop shells that is meters thick! Just imagine how much scallops shells that would’ve taken. There’s a lot to explore but if you just want something that’s relaxed, you can just have a good beer by the beach from sunset til night.

On the epic Ring Road drive (A1) in East Iceland, there’s a black sand beach called Stokksnes, just a few kilometres from Höfn. 

A gravel road gets you to a tiny cafeteria - where you can pay a small fee to drive further in till the edge of the water. 

Volcanic black sand dunes, Tall green grasses. Waves breaking on the rocks. Wind. Reflections in the water. Incredible beauty. Pure zen.

Lined with palm trees, fragrant flowers, and dramatic sea views, the promenade is a favorite for both locals and visitors looking for a relaxing walk, a scenic jog, or the perfect photo opportunity.

Built as the residence of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Austria and his wife Charlotte, this castle blends Gothic, Medieval, and Renaissance elements, offering visitors a glimpse into a royal past. It features more than 20 rooms including Maximilian’s bedroom, designed like a ship’s cabin, and the grand Throne Room. 1 - The Roman Amphitheater, carved out of rock, once seated thousands of spectators, eagerly gathered for gladiatorial combats and public spectacles. Its elliptical structure, with the remnants of tiered seating and central arena, evokes the powerful aura of ancient Roman entertainment and social life. The structure, hidden over the centuries by surrounding buildings, was rediscovered in 1814 and fully unearthed in 1938 during a demolition. 
2 - This archaeological marvel provides invaluable insights into Roman architectural genius. You can see the sophisticated design and engineering techniques used in its construction, including the intricate system of underground passages where gladiators and animals were held before contests, showcasing Roman innovation and craftsmanship.
3 - Notable for its architecture that utilizes the natural slope of the hill, the amphitheater could accommodate between 3,500 to 6,000 spectators and was built primarily of masonry, with a wooden stage. Today, the amphitheater serves as a vibrant cultural venue. Faroe Islands

Getting there on a little ferry tossed around on the surging Atlantic Ocean needs courage. As the boat uses all her resources to maneuver into a tight, rocky harbor, I wonder if the captain, who does this twice a day, is either extremely brave or completely suicidal. We step on to what looks like the sets of a Disney fantasy movie. Twenty colorful grass-roofed homes, one little schoolhouse - which has one child - and a bridge over the Atlantic.

I meet my guide Harald - a septuagenarian with poise to rival the curious sheep we see hanging precariously over the cliffs. Harald leads our little group on a 4-hour hike across the island to the lighthouse at the westernmost point of the Faroes.

Birds are everywhere - puffins, fulmars, kittiwakes, gannets - on the green hills, riding the ocean waves, occupying every inch of cliff space, filling the air with their calls, and circling the sky.

The Alhambra in Granada is a stunning example of Moorish architecture and one of Spain's most iconic historical sites. This vast complex, which includes the Nasrid Palaces, the Alcazaba fortress, and the Generalife gardens, served as the royal residence of the Nasrid sultans. Walking through its intricately decorated halls and serene gardens offers a glimpse into the splendor of the last Islamic kingdom in Spain.

Highlights of the Alhambra:

1. Nasrid Palaces: The heart of the Alhambra, the Nasrid Palaces are renowned for their intricate plasterwork, tile mosaics, and detailed wood carvings. The Hall of the Ambassadors and the Court of the Lions are must-see spaces, showcasing the pinnacle of Islamic art and architecture in Spain.

2. Alcazaba: This ancient fortress offers commanding views of Granada and the surrounding countryside. Climb the Torre de la Vela for one of the best panoramic views in the city, where you can appreciate the strategic significance of the fortress.

3. Generalife Gardens: The lush gardens of the Generalife, the sultans’ summer palace, are filled with fountains, shaded walkways, and fragrant flowers. The Patio de la Acequia, with its long reflecting pool, is especially beautiful.

4. Palacio de Carlos V: This Renaissance palace is an architectural departure from the Moorish style, with a grand circular courtyard and a stunning stone facade. It houses a museum of fine arts and the Alhambra Museum.

Tip: Be sure to book your tickets in advance, as the Alhambra is one of Spain's most popular attractions. Exploring early allows you to enjoy quieter moments before peak hours.

Portugal’s Monsaraz, a breathtaking hilltop village in the Alentejo region, feels like stepping back in time. Overlooking the Alqueva Lake, Europe’s largest artificial lake, this medieval walled village is known for its whitewashed houses, cobbled streets, and a well-preserved castle. With its rich history, stunning landscapes, and peaceful atmosphere, Monsaraz is one of Portugal’s most enchanting villages—a perfect escape for history lovers and photographers alike.


1. Monsaraz Castle, a 13th-century fortress offering spectacular panoramic views of the Alentejo plains and Alqueva Lake, especially stunning at sunset.
