This photography experience takes place in the small coastal city of Concón, cocooned in the cliffs north of Valparaíso. You will explore three fragile ecosystems: the Concón Wetlands (Humedales de Concón), La Roca Oceánica (Ocean Rock), and the Dunes of Concón (Dunas de Concón). At each, you'll photograph flora and fauna under the mentorship of David, a local creative who grew up amid this windswept beauty spot. 

The experience takes place in the late afternoon and concludes with golden hour and sunset at the Dunes of Concón. Starting at the reed-lined wetlands, you'll encounter such birdlife as pelicans and perritos (white-backed stilts). Afterwards, you'll pause for coffee and empanada at Surf Beach (Playa La Boca). Frequented by local surfers—David included—this is an opportunity to flex your "moving target" skills! A small hike through the surreal dune system brings you to a vantage point from which you can take in panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and Viña del Mar.

Concón is a hidden gem in Chile's Valparaíso Region. Inhabited by artists, families, young professionals, surfers, and gourmands, the city has a bohemian ambiance minus the bustle of its mother city. In this experience, you will visit the kinds of places locals hang out at weekends. From strolling along the wetlands—a beloved spot for birding and picnics—to cheering on surfers catching their first wave, this experience imbeds you into the village-like community. Meet David at the entrance of the Ecological Park (Parque Ecologico La Isla) in Concón, next to the roundabout. Uber is widely available from Valparaíso and Viña del Mar and the park is easily accessible from the main road.

Growing up amid the windswept dunes of Concón and the bohemian streets of Valparaíso kindled David's appreciation for photography, nature, and art. He graduated from the University of Playa Ancha and went on to work as a Software Engineer, while flexing his skills behind the lens. 

As a self-taught photographer, David has honed his talent working with both landscapes and portraiture. He has an experimental style and a keen eye for spotting easily-missed details He has a special ability to see the potential in the simple aspects of local reality and culture, and always seeks to capture them in an original way through his photography. He works with a Canon DSLR, using 50mm and 18-55mm lenses for regular shots and a 300mm lens to capture distant subjects with clarity and depth.

David draws upon his extensive archive of travel photography experiences while mentoring those visiting Valparaíso on how to capture the beauty of a location and why you should look beyond what's at eye level.

Mexico

Medellín Market is one of Mexico City’s most culturally layered food hubs. Tucked into the Roma/Condesa area — known for its art nouveau facades and leafy streets—the market has stood for more than 150 years as a neighborhood anchor and open-air meeting point. It hosts over 500 stalls and brings together ingredients and street foods from across Mexico and Latin America. Locals come here to shop for produce, source regional products, and eat tacos at stalls with decades-long followings.

Led by a local gastronomy expert, this experience takes you through the market’s maze of stalls and taquerías, sharing insights about Mexican ingredients and the stories behind them. You’ll try several types of tacos—carnitas, campechanos, and al pastor, including from the taquería that claims to have invented it.

These tacos provide rich and spicy sauces and tender, marinated meats. You’ll learn the stories behind these famous tacos that represent styles of cooking from all over the country.

While Condesa and Roma are known for boutique hotels and charming shops, Medellín Market is a century-old bastion of routine life — where locals still buy produce, tortillas and pantry essentials today. The market’s nixtamal tortillería is one of the few remaining in Mexico City still grinding corn daily — you’ll taste tortillas made minutes after the masa is prepared. This goes well beyond street food — it’s the foundation of Mexican cooking, and a meaningful beginning to appreciating tacos and regional flavors. On this walking tour through Bilbao, your host, an expert in art and Basque culture who was involved in the city's urban regeneration project, will talk you through how Bilbao has changed in the past 30 years and the impact the Guggenheim has had on both the city and the arts.

In this studio visit you'll meet an architect who is playing with ways to use objects the city leaves behind — cement blocks, plastic crates, shattered tiles, and other things that often slip into invisibility. 

Inspired by his background in environmental design, Javier transforms such fragments into sculptural furniture such as chairs, tables and shelves. Each piece is a constellation of temporalities and forgotten stories, a collection and reconfiguration of objects found throughout CDMX, which Javier sources himself.

Javier will welcome you to his studio and share his process, sharing how walking, gathering, and assembling have become methods to map the city and its leftovers. He'll discuss what his design work says about Mexico City, and also how he's approached this work in other cities such as London, where he's been an artist in residence. 

The experience offers a unique window into how design can be responsive, situated and radically resourceful, as well as being sculptural.

Every piece is singular and made with wild, non-standard measurements and joined using simple, reversible techniques. Javier Guzmán Cervantes is an artist, designer, and builder based in Mexico City. His work explores residual realities in the contemporary metropolis, developing domestic infrastructures, furniture, and structural systems through low-tech and autonomous processes out of debris, residues, and material fragments gathered through urban exploration. In this process, he engages with concepts such as degrowth, living otherwise, and post-development, questioning the role of art, design and construction in relation to sustainability and community.

Through direct contact with the city, Javier's practice transforms discarded objects into local resources, creating not only tactical approaches to construction but also serving as traces of life and local processes within the city: revealing stories.

In 2023, he founded Ex Soup, an art and design experiment based in Mexico City that uses walking, urban wandering, and low-tech methods to collect and reassemble the city’s remains.

Located about 7 kilometers from Venice, a 25 minute water taxi (to be arranged via your Venice hotel) or a 40-minute vaporetto (water bus) ride can transport you to this picturesque locale from Venice. Historically, Burano was a fishing village, and this heritage is evident in its culture and cuisine, with seafood being a prominent feature in local dishes.

You can also stay overnight at Venissa or Casa Burano. It's amazing to wake up early on the island before the tourists get here and wander around.

This hands-on art experience introduces you to printmaking in the relaxed setting of a multifaceted artist's intimate studio in a charming village near Valparaíso. 

Under Marcela's guidance, you'll try your hand at crafting a monotype print using non-toxic, soy-based inks. Marcela will support you through creating the design and nurturing your natural talent and proving that everyone has an inner artist. By the time the activity is complete, your monotype will be ready to take away. No prior experience or proven skills in drawing or printmaking are necessary. 

To conclude your trip to Concon, Marcela will recommend local seafood restaurants in the "Gastronomic Capital of Chile" where you can stop for lunch or dinner. 

The experience provides rare access to the studio of a professional Chilean artist. Marcela's portfolio spans lithography, painting, and folk art and she will share rich insight into Chile's artisanal legacy and culture while you create.

Marcela's studio is attached to her home above the Higuerillas fishing hamlet in Concon, a short drive from Viña del Mar or Valparaíso. This area is rarely visited by international tourists which means you get to experience a truly local community. 

In terms of inspiration, you only need glance outside where dunes tumble to meet the waves of the Pacific and seals cling to rocky crags. This residential neighborhood is alive with flora and avifauna. Marcela is well-versed in Chilean mythology and has further visual prompts to unleash your creativity. 

Refreshments and local pastries are provided. If you're lucky, you may even get to sample the famous "pancito amasado" bread baked by Marcela's father, a retired lighthouse keeper.

Marcela Rodriguez is a contemporary multi-media artist. Born in 1965, Marcela grew up living in lighthouses with her lighthouse-keeper father along the rugged Southern Chilean coast. The vast Patagonian landscape and turbulent Pacific Ocean greatly influenced her. While in college, she discovered street theatre and performed with two important Santiago theatre troupes.

In 1992, Marcela moved to Minneapolis, USA, and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and an MFA in painting and drawing. In 2001, she moved back to Chile and developed a passion for printmaking, focusing on lithography. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout Chile, Mexico, Cuba, and the USA.

Marcela has completed two art residencies for printmakers, including a month-long one in Veracruz, Mexico at La Ceiba Grafica in 2018 and with renowned artists from “Taller 99” in Santiago, 2019. She currently lives and works as a visual artist in Concon, Chile, and teaches at Casa Plan in Valparaíso.

Argentina

This 3-hour cooking class teaches you how to make Argentine empanadas in the home of a local couple in Buenos Aires. Stuffed with meats, cheeses, vegetables, and more, these savory pastries are a beloved national symbol. Empanadas vary across Argentina, and you’ll want to ask Diego and Camila how the Buenos Aires style differs from those in provinces like Salta, Tucumán, or Córdoba.

There’s no more satisfying way to experience a place than by cooking and dining with locals who live it every day. This hands-on class invites you to don an apron and unleash your culinary creativity. You’ll learn how to prepare a “proper” empanada that would earn a nod from any Porteño (Buenos Aires local). From chopping onions and seasoning meat to crafting sauces and mastering both baking and frying techniques, every step is part of the fun. And where there are empanadas, there’s wine—your glass will stay full throughout. The session ends with two Argentine sweet favorites: dulce de leche and alfajores.

This experience immerses you in Argentina’s rich culinary tradition by teaching how to prepare authentic empanadas in the real home of a Porteño couple, Camila and Diego. Nestled beside the 18th-century San Vicente Ferrer Church in Santiago's Los Condes district, this enclave of 200 workshops hums with the legacy of Mapuche metalsmiths, colonial leather workers, and mestizo weavers. 

Julio will weave you around the artisan village and introduce you to craftspeople who will share their work and stories. As this is an opportune moment to pick up souvenirs, it is advisable to carry cash (Chilean pesos). 

Trace your fingers over copper cookware forged in ancestral fires, inhale the earthy musk of medicinal herbs, and savor empanadas—a culinary relic of Spain’s Moorish past reborn in the New World.

In 1540, the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia raised his cross upon this volcanic outcrop, thus founding Santiago as a bastion of empire. Today, Santa Lucía Hill's serpentine paths lead past moss-crowned cannons and neoclassical follies with each step a dialogue between Indigenous resilience and colonial ambition. 

After a short climb, you'll pause at the summit and observe how the city sprawls below like a map of its own layered history.

Refresh with a tangy Pisco Sour and savor Pastel de Choclo—a caramelized corn pie steeped in Andean tradition. When asked about his love for Lisbon, Tiago’s enthusiasm is immediate: “I love my city! I really love the historic center of Lisbon!” Though he didn’t always feel that way. Growing up on the city’s outskirts, it wasn’t until returning after time abroad that he saw it anew. “It was as a young and independent adult with an arts and architecture degree, and with the enthusiasm to explore — that I realized how beautiful, diverse, and interesting my city is.”
For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.
As tourism evolves, Tiago points toward Lisbon’s under-known strengths. “Gastronomy, street art, tiles, contemporary architecture… there’s so much more to discover!”

remembering his family’s orchard. “I have good memories of my mother and my sister making lots of cakes—almond cakes, and sometimes orange cakes too.”

Having a background in biology, coming to the Galapagos was absolutely a bucket list trip. The trip is worth going if you have three to seven days, depending on how much you want to see. I was there for three days and I could have discovered more islands. 

It is important to have a tour guide as you are not allowed to venture outside the town without one. 

Definitely worth a visit!

A visit to Fogo Island is all about the power of culture, art and community as catalysts for social and economic change. It’s a story of the indomitable spirit of people who refuse to give up their land.

First Impressions?  Minimalist winter scenery, it’s 🧊 season, one of Fogo Island’s seven  seasons. There are wooden Saltbox Houses, that must have leaped out of a child’s painting book. Reminders of fishing are everywhere. 

My favorite part of the trip is spending time with the islanders who do community orientations and cabin outings for visitors. These are people who are proud of their Irish or English heritage (seven or eight generations in Fogo Island notwithstanding) — who sing songs and tell stories of their ancestors, invite strangers into their homes to share salted cod and tea, take you on ski-doo for ice-fishing, teach you to forage for berries and show you how to preserve vegetables in mason jars to last through winter.

Far Away From Far Away

Rising from the desert plains like a vision from another time, Aït Benhaddou is one of Morocco’s most iconic and well-preserved ksars (fortified villages). Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this stunning earthen settlement along the former trans-Saharan trade route has been a backdrop for countless films and TV series, including Gladiator and Game of Thrones. With its towering mudbrick kasbahs, labyrinthine alleys, and breathtaking mountain views, Aït Benhaddou is a must-visit for history lovers, photographers, and culture enthusiasts.

1. A walk through the ancient ksar winds past traditional mudbrick homes, narrow alleyways, and merchant stalls, offering a glimpse into centuries-old Moroccan architecture and way of life.

2. A steep climb to the granary at the top rewards visitors with panoramic views of the surrounding desert and the winding Ounila River, making it a perfect spot for photography.

3. A visit to a family home inside the ksar provides an intimate look at how locals maintain and preserve these historic structures, keeping Berber traditions alive.

4. A crossing over the shallow river on foot or by donkey adds to the adventure, especially in spring when the water level rises and the kasbah reflects beautifully in the water.

5. A golden-hour glow at sunset bathes the mudbrick walls in warm hues, creating an unforgettable scene that makes Aït Benhaddou one of the most photogenic spots in Morocco.

The best time to visit is spring (March–May) or autumn (September–November) for pleasant temperatures. Arriving early in the morning or late in the afternoon helps avoid crowds and offers the best lighting for photos. Wearing sturdy shoes is recommended for climbing the steep paths. Bringing cash is useful for small entry fees, souvenirs, and local cafés, as card payments are rarely accepted.

Since I knew that I was gonna travel to Argentina I wanted to visit La Boca. It is a little neighborhood where you can find some of the most famous landscapes of Buenos Aires. 

At the time I arrive, via bus or “bondi”, as it is said there, it was full of people; eating, buying souvenirs, taking photos, etc.

I loved this experience so much that I don’t want to spoil anything to you, just take the chance and visit that amazing place!
