How to Organize-Your-Own Experiential Journey

If you find yourself yearning for an escape from predictable, cookie-cutter vacations, then look no further than experiential travel - it’s the remedy to your wanderlust.

Embarking on an experiential journey is an opportunity to immerse yourself in new cultures, forge meaningful connections, and create lasting memories. The best part? You can craft and choreograph this journey for authentic experiences yourself. Here’s how.

Organize

On A Going Basis

Ignite your wanderlust. Browse featured Experiences and Stories. Save the ones that catch your eye into a couple of Dream Boards – a visual representation of your travel aspirations, indeed, a personalized collection of possibilities for your travels.

Dive into our Journal articles, where you'll find insider tips and inspiration. Check out the Journeys posted by other Travelers, for potential reapplication.

Set Goals that matter. We’ve compiled a list of 50 Travel Goals for you to choose from – a list of the most extraordinary adventures we believe you should seek out. Your Goals will help you select destinations and experiences when you are ready to travel.

3-6 Months Before Your Trip

Step 1: Select a Destination to Build Your Journey.

Use the Fernwayer app to create a new Journey in three ways: (1) Start from scratch, (2) Convert from an existing Dream Board, or (3) Customize another Traveler’s Journey.

If you opt to build from scratch, enter your destination and travel dates into our Search Bar for Advanced Search. Explore available Experiences and add them to your Journey for later review and booking.

Step 2: Craft an itinerary that makes room for true exploration.

Resist the urge to rush from place to place to "check the box.". Your experiential journey is an opportunity to slow down and truly immerse yourself in each destination.

Allocate 2-3 days per hub town in your chosen country to foster a deeper connection with local culture. Consult a map to sequence your itinerary logically based on distances and geography. Remember, quality over quantity is key.

Step 3: Book Authentic Experiences.

Discover the travel planner's secret: To truly immerse yourself in your journey, anchor each day with at least one key Experience, ideally two—one for the morning and another for the afternoon or evening.

Experiences are the secret sauce for a distinctive Journey, creating moments that resonate deeply and stay with you for years. They allow you to engage with the local culture, from interacting with people to exploring historical sites.

Step 3 (contd.)

Utilize the Journey function in our App to efficiently and visually craft your itinerary. After outlining your plans, let them simmer for 24 hours before finalizing Experience bookings.

Enhance your itinerary by incorporating additional tours and attractions. Explore Stories marked as "Self-Explore" through Advanced Search to find direct links to booking pages for the top attractions.

Step 4: Prioritize Rest and Cuisine.

Anticipating your days of exploration, prioritize rest by booking accommodations that reflect the essence of your destination. Seek out hotels offering comfort, charm, and excellent customer service.

Research and book restaurants in advance to avoid disappointment and ensure memorable dining experiences.

Step 5: Secure Transportation.

With your itinerary taking shape, now is the time to secure flights, t rains, or rental cars for your journey. Use tools like Google Flights to find the best routes and airlines. Once you've found suitable options, proceed to book directly through the airline's website.

As you book your flights, the countdown to your experiential journey begins. Take the time to savor the anticipation and excitement that comes with embarking on a well-planned and curated journey.

After Your Trip

Ah, the bittersweet aftermath of a great trip. The memories are still fresh, the sense of adventure lingers, but reality beckons you back. Fear not, for there are ways to keep the spirit of your journey alive even after you’ve unpacked your suitcase and settled back into the rhythm of everyday life. Here’s how you move on after a remarkable journey:
