Chile

This 3.8 km (2.4 miles) hike is staged in the dramatic Vilama River Canyon, also known as Cactus Canyon or Cactus Valley. This volcanic canyon is carved by the junction of the Puritama River — which means "hot water" in the Kunza language — and the "cold water" Puripica River. This unique mix creates an oasis that supports the highest concentration of the giant, tree-like cactus species, Echinopsis Atacamensis (Cardón). 

After a 35-minute drive from San Pedro, the circuit usually takes between 2.5 to 3 hours. Although you'll maintain a leisurely pace, this trek has a "moderate difficulty" rating, and requires physical stability and hiking experience. The terrain is uneven at times and requires the occasional use of hands to navigate rocky boulders. The route involves several river crossings (summer rain sees the maximum water level reach knee-height) and high elevation/temperatures. These components foster an immersive hiking experience with high potential for spotting local birds. 

Cactus Valley is a living ecosystem where giant cacti have thrived for centuries. Those passionate about natural history will feel in their element here—particularly as your guide is an expert on the Atacama Desert's geology, flora, and fauna. While steering you through this surreal environment, Valeria will share her knowledge of the different formations and how the confluence of the "hot" and "cold" rivers created a one-of-a-kind ecosystem. She will point out native bird species feeding on the desert flora and bathing in the water. Sightings may include the greenish-yellow finch, the variable hawk, mountain parakeets, and the black-billed shrike tyrant.

Erica De Ponti is a licensed guide with over 20 years of experience and a deep love for old-time Milan. Argentina

This private ceramics experience invites you to create a mate drinking gourd from scratch. Over the course of 3.5 hours, you will learn about the entire process of modeling and decorating ceramics, culminating in a one-of-a-kind keepsake to take home and relive your time in Mendoza with every sip. While you shape and create your personalized gourd, you will sip on mate chosen by Lucila. Sharing mate (a caffeinated herbal beverage) is an integral component of Argentine culture and you'll come to understand why. The experience is further complemented by a spread of facturas and chipá (local pastries). 

No previous pottery experience is needed—all you need is a desire to enjoy, learn, and share. As the finished ceramic gourd must be fired after the workshop, you will need to collect it one week later or arrange to have it shipped. This cost is not included in the price of the experience. 

Engaging with such as artisanal process as ceramics provides a rare opportunity to connect with an ancient tradition. You may also be surprised by the feeling of wellness the experience creates—Lucila's goal is to inspire a sense of serenity. 

Designed by a local artisan in Mendoza, this craft experience focuses on the culture of mate as much as the pottery aspect; you'll make a mate gourd of your own while sipping the drink cherished by Argentinians from all corners of the country and all walks of life. Lucila Quevedo is a ceramic artist from Mendoza who has been teaching classes in her workshop for 7 years. She is passionate about the craft of ceramics and focuses on artisanal techniques. Through her work and teachings, she seeks to transmit the essence of this art form and inspire others to explore their creative side.

I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. When asked about his love for Lisbon, Tiago’s enthusiasm is immediate: “I love my city! I really love the historic center of Lisbon!” Though he didn’t always feel that way. Growing up on the city’s outskirts, it wasn’t until returning after time abroad that he saw it anew. “It was as a young and independent adult with an arts and architecture degree, and with the enthusiasm to explore — that I realized how beautiful, diverse, and interesting my city is.”
For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.
As tourism evolves, Tiago points toward Lisbon’s under-known strengths. “Gastronomy, street art, tiles, contemporary architecture… there’s so much more to discover!”

Art to Coast in Valparaíso

3 days in Valparaíso blending street art, food, architecture, and coastal craft with local guides.

This 10-day Morocco journey begins and ends in Marrakesh, unfolding through coastal Essaouira and the High Atlas Mountains in between. From artistic neighborhoods and sensory rituals to ocean air and mountain trails, this itinerary invites you to see Morocco not just as a destination but as a series of living moments, each led by chefs, photographers, artisans, and storytellers.

You will take part in Sufi evenings, hands-on cooking, contemporary gallery visits, and village walks. DAYS 1-2 – MARRAKESH | Ease into the journey with Amanda’s Courtyard Kitchen, a warm welcome into Moroccan cooking set in a private home. Visit El Badi Palace on your own before an immersive evening of Sufi presence with live Hadra music and shared dinner. The next day focuses on the city’s creative energy. An Escape to Morocco

10 days in Morocco through Marrakesh, Essaouira, and the Atlas Mountains with art, food, and nature.

Philippines

This was my first time visiting Gigantes Islands, and I was struck by the raw beauty of its cliffs and crystal-clear waters that surround its secluded beaches. There are several islands that you can hop in to and my favorite one is what the locals call the “mini boracay” because the sand sure feels like that in Boracay. Other islands are as equally awesome like the Bantigue sandbar, and Cabugay. We also explored the local neighborhood and sure has its own interesting stories. For one, I discovered that due to the abundance of scallops in the island, there’s a neighborhood that stands on a land area that’s made up of scallop shells that is meters thick! Just imagine how much scallops shells that would’ve taken. There’s a lot to explore but if you just want something that’s relaxed, you can just have a good beer by the beach from sunset til night. 

Gigantes Islands

Nestled within the vibrant Mouassine district of Marrakesh’s old medina, the Mouassine Museum of Music offers a captivating window into Morocco’s diverse musical traditions. Housed in a meticulously restored 17th-century riad, the museum is part of the historic Mouassine complex, which includes a mosque, fountain, and library. This elegant cultural space invites visitors to experience the soundscapes of Morocco—from ancient Berber rhythms to Sufi chants—while enjoying the peaceful charm of traditional Moroccan architecture.

1. Inside the museum, visitors are welcomed by the serene beauty of the riad itself, with carved cedar ceilings, ornate stucco, and a tranquil central courtyard that enhances the acoustic experience.

2. Each room in the Mouassine Museum of Music presents traditional instruments like the oud, guembri, and bendir, accompanied by insightful explanations that reveal the regional and spiritual roots of Moroccan music.

3. A standout feature of the museum is its collection of rare audio recordings and archival footage, allowing guests to listen to authentic performances that span Morocco’s varied musical landscapes.

4. On select evenings, the courtyard hosts intimate live concerts, where musicians perform using traditional instruments and styles—bringing the exhibits to life in an immersive setting.

Mouassine Museum of Music

Carved by the Dades River, the Dades Valley is one of Morocco’s most breathtaking landscapes, stretching between the High Atlas and Jebel Saghro mountains. Known as the “Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs,” this region is dotted with ancient fortresses, traditional Berber villages, and dramatic rock formations. The winding road through the Dades Gorges is famous for its hairpin turns and spectacular canyon views, making it a must-visit for nature lovers, photographers, and adventure seekers.

1. Towering red and orange cliffs rise above the Dades River, creating a dramatic contrast with the lush green valley below. The ever-changing colors of the rock formations make sunrise and sunset particularly stunning.

2. A series of hairpin bends along the Dades Gorge road provides one of Morocco’s most thrilling drives. The viewpoint at the top offers breathtaking panoramic views of the valley and surrounding mountains.

3. Unique rock formations called Monkey Fingers stand out with their smooth, rounded shapes, formed by millions of years of wind and water erosion. The site is a favorite for hikers and photographers.

4. Traditional kasbahs and Berber villages line the valley, where visitors can experience authentic Moroccan culture, meet locals, and enjoy a glass of mint tea with stunning views.

5. Scenic hiking trails through the gorge lead to hidden oases, ancient cave dwellings, and spectacular viewpoints, making it an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Tips for Visiting:
The best time to visit is March to May or September to November, when the weather is mild and the landscapes are at their most vibrant. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended for navigating the winding roads. Staying in a guesthouse or kasbah hotel allows for a more immersive experience, and bringing a camera is essential to capture the valley’s stunning rock formations and scenic vistas.

Dades Valley & Gorges

Nestled along the Kızılırmak River, Avanos is a charming town known for its long history of pottery-making and vibrant local culture.
1. Traditional Pottery Workshops: Visit family-run pottery studios where artisans demonstrate techniques passed down for generations. You can even try your hand at crafting your own piece.
2. Kızılırmak River: Stroll along Turkey’s longest river, which flows through the town, offering scenic views and a peaceful atmosphere.
3. Local Cuisine: Savor regional specialties at riverside restaurants, known for their use of fresh, local ingredients.

Visitor Tip: Plan your visit around midday to enjoy a pottery workshop and lunch by the river. Don’t forget to take home a piece of handcrafted pottery as a unique souvenir.

Avanos Town

Visiting Western Australia's Nambung National Park and the Pinnacles Desert is a must.

Located at the southern gateway to Australia's Coral Coast, along the Indian Ocean Drive, the Pinnacles Desert of Nambung National Park is one of the major natural attractions in the region and are Western Australia's most visited attractions.

The park is located roughly 200km, or 2 hours' drive north of Perth, and covers an area of 17,487 hectares providing natural habitat for an extensive array of native animals and bird life.

The Pinnacles are amazing natural limestone structures, formed approximately 25,000 to 30,000 years ago after the sea receded and left deposits of sea shells. Over time, coastal winds removed the surrounding sand, leaving the pillars exposed to the elements. The Pinnacles range in height and dimension - some stand as high as 3.5m!

Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Split, Croatia, is an ancient palace built by the Roman Emperor Diocletian at the turn of the fourth century AD. Why visit:

1: Experience the architectural marvel of one of the most imposing Roman ruins, serving as a testament to the Roman Empire's strength and sophistication. Diocletian's Palace is a unique blend of luxurious residence, fortified camp, and ancient city.

Diocletian's Palace

Visit the alluring island of Favignana, part of the Aegadian Islands off the western coast of Sicily. Accessible by a 40 minute ferry from Trapani, Favignana is a paradise for beach lovers and those seeking a serene seaside escape. The island's crystal-clear waters and picturesque coves offer an ideal setting for beach hopping - perfect for an off-the-beaten path day trip. Key highlights of this beach adventure include:

1. Ferry Ride from Trapani: The journey begins with a scenic ferry ride from Trapani, offering stunning views of the Mediterranean and the approaching island landscape.

2. Cala Rossa Beach: Known for its breathtaking beauty, Cala Rossa is a must-visit for its turquoise waters and rocky cliffs, perfect for swimming and snorkeling.

3. Lido Burrone: This sandy beach is ideal for families, with its shallow waters and amenities like sunbeds and umbrellas. It's a great spot for relaxing and enjoying the sun.

4. Cala Azzurra: Renowned for its clear azure waters, this beach offers a tranquil setting for swimming and soaking up the island's natural beauty.

5. Biking Around the Island: Rent a bike to explore the island's coastline, discovering hidden coves and secluded beaches at your own pace.

Make sure to arrive early on the island and calculate the time needed to get back to the port before the last ferry departs back to Trapani (in summer it is usually around 8 PM).

Favignana Beach Hopping

So amid the current situation of the world myself and two other friends managed to score flights to Colorado for $47. We rented a Jeep and decided to travel all around Colorado. This was my first time ever out west as I am an eastern girl! 

If you are ever able to visit Maroon Bells please do! Preferably at night so that you can watch the sun set over the mountain top! The sound coming from the small river combined with the smell of fresh air made me want to pitch a tent and never leave! The weather was not as cold as I expected. I was hoping to see more wild life but besides a few ducks there was none. I still had a fantastic time.

Philly Girl Out West

In Marrakech, explore the labyrinth of the medina, lined with market stalls and craftspeople, and full of secret places and contradictions. 

Anonymous, windowless, fortress-like walls enclose luxurious riads built around tiled courtyards, complete with fountains and gardens.

Happily, my wonderful guide Khadija of Morocco Private Experience, encourages my curiosity. She leads the way across the medieval labyrinth of chaotic alleyways - to the souks where centuries-old skills continue to flourish. 

I am intrigued about how all the craftspeople are clustered together by trade. We watch a metal craftsman shape a pair of gnawa cymbals. A leatherworker allows me inside his workshop for a better view. There is an entire street of ornate lantern sellers - the bronze-latticed lanterns competing with the palm-leafed roofs of the souks in throwing light-and-shadow patterns all around.

Botswana

Meet the Lion. Landlord of the Okavango floodplains. The fearless prides of lions here are known to hunt buffaloes and elephants. They have large prides, with several young cubs. In the delta, as it is elsewhere, it’s all about power and opportunism.

The delta is clearly a fluke of nature, and the way to appreciate it best is from the air, especially in June and July when you can see the progress of the rain water flooding into the area and turning it into a lush paradise teeming with wildlife. 

It’s a very special place.

Lion vs. Buffalo

Visiting the salt pans in Olhão during summer offers a unique and scenic experience, revealing a centuries-old tradition that continues to shape the Algarve’s landscape and economy. Located within the Ria Formosa Natural Park, these shimmering salt flats provide a fascinating look into the artisanal process of salt production and offer an ideal setting for observing wildlife. 

1. The salt pans are particularly striking in summer when the intense sun aids the natural evaporation process, leaving behind gleaming white salt crystals. Walking along the paths, you’ll see salt workers skillfully raking and collecting salt, a practice that has remained largely unchanged for generations.

2. These salt flats are a sanctuary for birdlife, with flamingos, storks, and avocets frequently spotted wading through the shallow pools. Summer brings an abundance of bird species to the area, making it a paradise for birdwatchers and photographers. 

3. Fleur de sel, or “flower of salt,” is one of the premium products harvested here. Known for its delicate flavor and purity, it’s collected from the surface of the salt pans and is a favorite among chefs and food enthusiasts. Many local shops in Olhão sell this prized salt, the perfect souvenir. 

4. Guided tours of the salt pans provide an informative perspective on the history and environmental significance of salt production in the Algarve. Many tours include a tasting, allowing you to sample the distinct flavors of different salt varieties while learning about the region’s sustainable practices.

5. The Ria Formosa landscape surrounding the salt pans is beautiful in summer, with contrasting shades of blue water, white salt mounds, and vibrant greenery. The tranquil setting invites relaxation and reflection.

Bring a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water, as the summer sun can be intense. Comfortable walking shoes and a camera are also essential to fully enjoy this unique and photogenic landscape.
