Part II : Engaging (45-60 minutes)

Starting in the afternoon, you’ll explore iconic landmarks like the Unicredit Tower—the tallest skyscraper in Italy—and the award-winning Bosco Verticale, where vertical gardens transform residential buildings into living ecosystems.

As you move through the area, your guide will share tips on composition, perspective, and light, helping you capture the contrast between glass, steel, and greenery. Piazza Gae Aulenti becomes the stage for the final part of the experience, just as the lights come on and the atmosphere shifts. The fountain’s reflections, the interplay of shadows and neon, and the golden hour create the perfect setting to explore the visual rhythm of Porta Nuova’s architecture with a trained photographic eye.

Greece

This historical walk traces Thessaloniki’s development from antiquity through Byzantine and Ottoman periods, using its religious and civic architecture. You begin at Trigoniou Tower, along the northern walls, where the city’s layered geography is visible from above. Then you follow the line of Byzantine fortifications toward the Monastery of Vlatadon, traditionally linked to the presence of Saint Paul.

The route then descends into the historic city. You visit the small church of Hosios David, known for Christian mosaics, before passing the Ottoman Alatza Imaret and continuing to the Church of Saint Demetrios, Thessaloniki’s most important Byzantine monument. 

From there, the walk continues through the Roman Forum and the Rotunda, originally built as a Roman monument and later adapted for Christian worship. A short pause for coffee marks the transition from the upper city to the modern center. The walk goes past Arch of Galerius, Navarinou Square, and statue of Alexander the Great.

This experience focuses on Thessaloniki’s Jewish heritage, once one of the largest and most influential Jewish communities in Europe. For centuries, Jewish life shaped the city’s identity, with tens of thousands of residents forming a vital presence woven into civic, economic, and cultural life. This community was almost entirely eradicated during the Second World War, when more than 90 percent of Thessaloniki’s Jewish population was deported and murdered.

The absence left behind is still palpable and lives on in the city’s memory. Walking these streets, you encounter not only architecture, but the traces of a people whose presence defined Thessaloniki for centuries and whose disappearance altered the city permanently.

In this experience, your guide Rio will introduce you to Asagaya, a quiet neighborhood of western Tokyo where the pace of change has been much slower than in the central city. This is Rio’s neighborhood where he’s learned the names and faces of shopkeepers, artists, and regular customers and is happy to introduce them to visitors.

You’ll stroll along the shotengai, an old shopping street where locals would spend their leisure time browsing shops, eating snacks, and greeting neighborhood friends. 

You’ll enjoy a retro-style lunch at an old shop specializing in okonomiyaki, a savory pancake before exploring the unique shops along the shotengai including a knife shop, tea shop, and a second-hand kimono shop. Along the way, you’ll have a chance to meet and converse with shopkeepers, and learn more about the rich history of the Asagaya area.

You will conclude your tour at a standing sake bar for drinks and conversation, and perhaps share a friendly “kampai!” cheers with new friends.

Rio is a writer, photographer, and National Government Licensed Guide based in Tokyo, with a passion for uncovering the city’s quieter, everyday rhythms. After years of traveling as a student and working abroad as a civil engineer, he realized that the most meaningful part of any journey is not only the places you see, but the interesting people you meet. 

That perspective inspired him to begin exploring his own neighborhood, Asagaya, with the eyes of a traveler—finding beauty in its shopfronts, the warmth of its small bars, and the characters who bring the streets to life. On his tours, Rio creates space for conversation and connection, helping visitors move beyond sightseeing into genuine cultural exchange. 

Whether it’s your first time in Tokyo or your fifth, his walks through Asagaya reveal what home feels like in another part of the world - and he does this intentionally in a part of the city often overlooked, offering a slower, more personal introduction to Japanese life.

This rare-access experience is a private photoshoot with a real Maiko — a young woman apprenticing to become a Geisha. Maiko are renowned for their colorful kimono, elaborately styled hair, and refined manners. Most visitors are lucky to catch even a fleeting glimpse of them as they move quickly through Kyoto’s streets between appointments. Recent regulations protect Maiko from unwanted attention from tourists. But in this experience, you’ll have the privilege of spending relaxed, uninterrupted time photographing and engaging with a Maiko.

The photo shoot takes place at Chionsha, a one-of-a-kind heritage house in Kyoto – the perfect, atmospheric backdrop for the session. Under the guidance of a professional expert photographer, you’ll learn how to use both natural and artificial light to create evocative portraits. You'll also practice how to work with a live subject — learning and practicing how to pose and frame your subject to evoke emotion and tell a story through your lens. 

This fully private session offers an extraordinary opportunity to interact with a Maiko while learning professional portraiture techniques. An entire historic house in Kyoto is reserved exclusively for your session — offering creative freedom to explore light, setting and subject. You’ll learn techniques unique to photographing a Maiko, and portraiture skills you can apply to other subjects in the future. Meet Pierre in the heart of Bordeaux in his studio next to Saint Michel church. Over coffee or tea paired with chocolatines and croissants, Pierre will share stories from his daily life and explain how his studio fits into this historic and lively area.

You’ll explore the origins of photography and learn about wet plate collodion—a 19th-century technique that uses glass or metal plates, chemical baths, and a large format camera. Pierre will demonstrate each step while coating, sensitizing, exposing, and developing images.

Watching your portrait come to life is a striking visual moment: deep contrasts, delicate textures, and a vintage feel that’s hard to find elsewhere. While your image slowly appears, Pierre shares family stories and his personal view of Bordeaux and photography. If the light conditions are good, you can choose to shoot outdoors and include a glimpse of the city in your portrait.



The uniqueness of this experience lies in the physicality of the process and the one-of-a-kind result. Wet plate collodion photography doesn’t aim to imitate the past—it uses an early technique to craft images that are singular, dense, and deeply present. Each portrait is shaped by light and chemistry, with a richness of tones and details that can’t be replicated.

Pierre Wetzel has spent years refining this 19th-century process, working entirely with a large-format camera and mastering the subtle balance of materials and timing. His approach transforms a technical procedure into a moment of artistic exchange, revealing the tension between chance and control that defines the collodion process.

Before and during the session, talking with Pierre, who greets you like friends, offers a window into local creative life and the expertise of an artist deeply rooted in the city and its oldest neighborhood.

Fixing Time in Saint-Michel

Pierre Wetzel is a Bordeaux-based photographer known for his dedication to wet plate collodion, a 19th-century photographic process that he has mastered over years of experimentation. He lives and works in the Saint-Michel district, where he runs his studio and regularly collaborates on community-based art projects that connect photography with local stories and social engagement.

Portugal

This captivating seasonal walking tour in the Algarve's Barrocal region showcases the spectacular wild orchids that flourish here. Portugal boasts around 70 orchid species, with a significant variety found in this region, known for its botanical diversity and ecological significance. 

From February to May, the orchids begin to bloom, with the peak season between March and April. On this easy trail, you'll have the opportunity to discover several rare species, such as Bee Orchid, Bumblebee Orchid, and Woodcock Orchid, known for their unique adaptations and beauty.

The tour is designed to educate participants about the critical importance of orchid conservation. By understanding these plants' roles in their ecosystems and the challenges they face, you contribute to their ongoing preservation for future generations. Available only during the flowering season, this experience is both a visual delight and an engaging conversation about one of nature's most fascinating creations. 

This trail is located near Loulé. If you’re staying outside of Loulé, you’ll have to drive into town, either by renting a car or getting an Uber. 

What sets this walking tour apart is the fascinating history and biology of the orchids. Orchids have existed for at least 30 million years, evolving intricate mechanisms to attract pollinators, some even mimicking insects. Certain species can take up to 20 years to bloom, highlighting their resilience and the delicate balance of their ecosystems. 

Depending on the season, you can witness a variety of orchids on this trail. This area is perfectly suited to these species due to its unique microclimates and diverse habitats, which provide the specific conditions each orchid needs to thrive.

Joining Joana, whose passion for scouting out and finding the hidden spots where Algarve's orchids flourish, makes the journey special. Her local expertise provides insights into the orchids' survival strategies and the threats they face from habitat destruction.

This is a precious, once-a-year experience, and is dictated by the seasonal blooming patterns of the orchids and of the ecosystem.
