Argentina

This special experience takes you off the beaten path into the world of a truly local family in Lunlunta, Mendoza. For over 30 years, Juan Marcos Juricich — a softly spoken agronomist and beekeeper — has lived and worked on this small finca with his children, who now help him run the place. Upon arrival, you'll explore the estate with Federico, the youngest son and a winemaker who produces organic wine from grapes lovingly grown on the family plot. You'll sample his latest blends fresh from the tanks and, if you like what you taste, you can even bottle your own wine to take home. 

Through Federico, you will learn about Juan's storied beekeeping and organic honey production methods. There is a chance to try the honey and, depending on the season, hold the hives. To wrap up the experience, Federico will fire up the parrilla for a home-cooked asado, served under the trees with laughter, stories, and wine. This is not a show. It’s a slice of Mendoza life — shared the way it’s always been.

This experience brings you into a real working farm and the home of a family who live off the land, producing wine and honey. You’ll get up close with the bees, understand their significance to the local ecosystem, and learn how Juan, an agricultural engineer and respected apiculturalist, specializes in queen bee breeding and sustainable apiculture.

This hands-on workshop offers rare access to one of Portugal’s most endangered crafts: Bisalhães black pottery, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. In a small mountain village north of Vila Real, just a few remaining artisans keep this tradition alive.

You’ll step into a rustic, working atelier to see how local earth, fire, and ancestral technique come together to form these matte-black pieces. After a live demonstration of traditional hand-molding, you’ll take a seat at the wheel to shape your own, guided step-by-step by the master potter.

If weather allows, you’ll also witness the outdoor firing process—where pine needles and broom branches are used to stoke the open-air kiln. This method turns raw clay into its distinct black finish, a transformation unchanged for generations. Your completed piece is then fired, carefully packaged, and shipped to your home — a tactile memory of Douro, shaped by your own hands.

In Bisalhães, black clay pottery has been shaped by hand for centuries—but today, only a few master potters still practice this endangered art. This experience offers rare, personal access to one of them, in a setting far from the commercial workshops of larger towns.

Inside the workshop, you’ll learn how the clay is prepared, shaped and dried using traditional tools—some passed down through families—and how the outdoor kilns, fueled by pine and broom, are smothered post-fire with moss, earth and sand to lock in the signature matte-black finish. Under the artisan’s guidance, you’ll craft a piece using age-old techniques, then watch as it’s hardened by fire into a singular object. You’ll start at the Göreme National Park taking in the views of the surreal volcanic landscape where mammoths once roamed. Then enjoy a short walk among the fairy chimneys and the pigeon houses admiring the manmade wall paintings. After a traditional lunch, you’ll stop in Avanos, a town with a rich pottery-making tradition dating back to the Hittites, a civilization that settled in Turkey around 2000 BC. You’ll witness the artisans at work and sample regional wines before continuing towards the Imagination Valley (Devrent), where naturally sculpted rocks take on intriguing shapes that resemble animals and other figures. The day concludes at Paşabağ (Monks Valley), where hermits once carved their homes into giant fairy chimneys. It’s a fascinating blend of geology, history, and art, packed into a full day of discovery.

This private workshop offers hands-on access to one of Spain’s oldest and most iconic ceramic workshops: the Fajalauza factory. Founded in 1517 and still operated by the Morales family, Fajalauza has been shaping the visual identity of Granada for over 500 years.

You’ll begin with a private tour through its original production site and museum—home to ancient kilns, hand-thrown molds, and decorative pieces that reflect the fusion of Islamic and European styles. As you explore, you’ll learn how Granada’s ceramic language evolved across centuries, adapting to dynasties and shifting cultural forces while staying rooted in the local soil.

Then comes your own initiation into the craft. Guided by master artisans, you’ll sit at the potter’s wheel for a “baptism of clay,” shaping a vessel from scratch.  “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”

10-day itinerary in Italy through Venice, Bologna, Milan, a mix of culture, cuisine, scenic beauty.

My sister and I flew into Las Vegas to then see the Grand Canyon. We woke early to get picked up at our hotel and the tour took us to the Hoover Dam, a stop on Route 66 (where the Cars movie took place), and finally the Grand Canyon. We did an easy hike but it took about 4 hours. We stopped multiple times for pictures. It was amazing. The pictures don’t do it justice. 

My sister and I wish we had spent more time there and maybe hiking a different trail.
