This private, 4-hour ceramics experience invites you to create a decorative piece while enjoying a few glasses of wine and empanadas. Mendoza is as celebrated for its thriving arts community as it is for its world-renowned Malbec wines. You will learn about the artisan process of ceramics, from modeling to decoration, culminating in a unique piece to take home as a reminder of your time in Mendoza. This may be a plate or a cup; Lucila will discuss the options with you prior to starting.

In addition to exploring your creativity, you will also sample wines from local Mendoza wineries and enjoy delicious locally made empanadas, making this a full experience for the senses. No previous experience is needed—just a desire to enjoy and learn.

As the finished ceramic piece must be fired after the workshop, if you would like to keep it, you will need to collect it one week later or arrange to have it shipped. Shipping costs are not included in the price of the experience.

Lucila Quevedo is a ceramic artist from Mendoza who has been teaching classes in her workshop for seven years. She is passionate about the craft of ceramics and focuses on artisanal techniques. Through her work and teaching, she seeks to transmit the essence of this art form and inspire others to explore their creative side.

Please note that the workshop is hosted in Spanish. Travelers are encouraged to take this as an opportunity to practice their Spanish in a warm, creative environment. Spain

The great American novelist and journalist Ernest Hemingway spent some of the best days and nights of his life in Madrid. Starting as a young aficionado of the bullfights, he returned as a foreign correspondent for dangerous reporting assignments during the Spanish Civil War, and later shared drinks around town with visiting Hollywood stars of the 1950s. Much of his best fiction was based on these experiences in Madrid and across Spain.

This tour brings Hemingway’s Madrid to life. You will visit some of his favorite Madrid spots, hear stories from his life and times, and hit all the places the man himself would have taken us to.

These include classic beer halls, elegant hotel lounges, cave-like basement bars, and the world’s oldest surviving restaurant. Many of these places were immortalized in his books, and most have barely changed since the author ate, drank, and wrote within their walls.

As a professional writer and a member of the prestigious El Ateneo literary society, your host has lived and breathed Madrid for over a decade. His work on the city’s culture and history includes published essays on Hemingway’s unique relationship with Madrid, making him perfectly placed to bring rich historical color and context to the author’s world here a century ago. This sophisticated yet relaxed private dining experience takes place in the tasting room of an Argentine chef and English sommelier in Palermo Hollywood, Buenos Aires. Five courses are prepared in the on-site kitchen using seasonal ingredients and recipes rooted in Argentine home cooking. Bertie, an English Sommelier, and Aby, an Argentine chef, are a Buenos Aires-based couple dedicated to sharing food, wine, and excellent company. Aby has been cooking traditional Argentine food since she was a child — helping at family gatherings — and Bertie has worked as a professional sommelier since 2008. 

The couple met by chance in Rio de Janeiro in 2014. What began as conversations about flavors and cultures soon grew into a partnership rooted in curiosity and hospitality. Since 2016, they’ve been running wine discovery and cooking classes together, creating meaningful experiences that celebrate regional traditions, local producers, and the joy of exploring Argentina one glass at a time. Italy

Carnevale in Mamoiada (February 7 and 9, 2027) immerses you in the rich culture of Sardinia’s festivities. The decorated streets of this ancient village come alive with haunting rhythms of cowbells, hypnotic movements of dancers, and tradition preserved through centuries: it’s a celebration of history, mythology and community.

You will watch the Mamuthones, cloaked in black sheepskins with grotesque wooden masks, moving in slow, ritualistic dances. Meanwhile, the Issohadores, with vibrant red shirts and white masks, wield lassos to capture the dancers (and spectators!).

Within this setting, you explore the history and meaning of Árbol de la Vida (Tree of Life), a ceramic tradition from Izúcar de Matamoros, Puebla. Originally shaped as didactic sculptures to narrate biblical stories, Árbol de la Vida later absorbed indigenous symbolism and family iconographies, becoming both devotional object and personal expression.

In this experience, you examine how these traditional forms have evolved into contemporary expressions, learning about the clay, natural pigments, firing methods, and generational knowledge that shape each piece. Alongside the symbolism of the Tree of Life, the conversation turns to the realities facing artisan communities today and the innovations sustaining the craft.

For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.

Mirador de la Cornisa is situated between the Royal Palace and the Almudena Cathedral in Madrid.
