Chile

This full-day experience immerses you in the Atacama's most dramatic scenery: its geysers, high-altitude wetlands, and volcanic highlands. This is a 2.5-hour introduction to the land, craft, and wines of a family-run estate in the Aquitaine countryside. It begins with a relaxed horseback ride through the vineyards — no experience needed. Your guide points out grape varieties and how slope, soil, and season shape each vine, while moving at an easy rhythm between vine rows that stretch across the landscape.

Back at the château, you’ll tour the production area and barrel cellar, discovering how heritage and craft are intertwined. Then, you'll taste four wines selected to highlight different expressions of terroir and show how choices in the cellar shape character in the glass.

This three-hour walking tour in the historic center of Lima balances enigmatic sights with tasty bites. After meeting Lorena at the Virgen de las Mercedes Church, you’ll spend a moment admiring the exterior of this architectural gem before continuing to the Central Museum (MUCEN), where you’ll learn about pre- and post-Columbian art, Indigenous ceramics, and decorative jewelry. The museum visit unfolds at a gentle pace, allowing time to discuss the artifacts on display and ask Lorena questions along the way.

After leaving the museum, you’ll stroll through Lima’s Central Market, tasting seasonal fruits and refreshing yourself with a fresh smoothie. The route continues to Plaza Mayor de Lima, where you’ll take in landmarks such as the Palacio Municipal de Lima (City Hall). The Nahua are one of the most prominent and impactful indigenous groups in Mesoamerica. Nahua culture is diverse, stretching across civilizations such as the Mexica (Aztecs) and Tlaxcalteca, among others.

To explore this heritage, we’ll begin at the Cuicuilco archaeological site, a thriving city between 350 and 150 CE before it was engulfed by lava from the Xitle volcano. Here, you’ll gain an understanding of Mexica archaeology and culture.

Moving downtown, you’ll dive into an introductory Náhuatl language class. This will also give you an opportunity to learn more about the Nahua people's ritual calendars, deities, and how these cultural elements supported the functioning of one of the most fascinating ancient civilizations during its peak between 1345 and 1521.

This experience offers an authentic connection to ancient Mesoamerican cultures through two immersive cycles. Rise and shine: long before the sun makes its arrival over the valleys of Atacama Desert, you'll be on the road to one of the main gateways to the Andean highlands of Chile. This is a full-day photographic odyssey of some of the Atacama's most shocking natural wonders where you will contemplate important high-altitude ecosystems rich in biodiversity and cultural significance. These include the wetlands of Machuca and Putana, the Tatio Geyser, the Cactus Canyon, and the Puritama Hot Springs.

Andrea is an anthropologist by training, Master Mezcalier by trade, and a singer. She has fifteen years of experience promoting Guerrero State's mezcal culture and traditions, an area not typically associated with mezcal, but with plenty of flavors that are a joy to discover.

Andrea's own work in mezcal emerged from an extensive family history, where numerous memories and experiences have been intrinsically linked to the enjoyment of this spirit, always accompanied by good food and music. Since 2010, Andrea has been an integral part of the new narrative being woven around mezcal from Guerrero, actively contributing to its recognition and appreciation both nationally and internationally. 

Andrea's knowledge encompasses not only the specific culture of Guerrero, but extends to the diverse traditions that exist throughout the length and breadth of Mexico. She is certified as a Master Mezcalier and as a Leader in Food and Beverage Sensory Evaluation.

Japan

This rare-access experience is a private photoshoot with a real Maiko — a young woman apprenticing to become a Geisha. Maiko are renowned for their colorful kimono, elaborately styled hair, and refined manners. Most visitors are lucky to catch even a fleeting glimpse of them as they move quickly through Kyoto’s streets between appointments. Recent regulations protect Maiko from unwanted attention from tourists. But in this experience, you’ll have the privilege of spending relaxed, uninterrupted time photographing and engaging with a Maiko.

The photo shoot takes place at Chionsha, a one-of-a-kind heritage house in Kyoto – the perfect, atmospheric backdrop for the session. Under the guidance of a professional expert photographer, you’ll learn how to use both natural and artificial light to create evocative portraits. You'll also practice how to work with a live subject — learning and practicing how to pose and frame your subject to evoke emotion and tell a story through your lens. 

This fully private session offers an extraordinary opportunity to interact with a Maiko while learning professional portraiture techniques. An entire historic house in Kyoto is reserved exclusively for your session — offering creative freedom to explore light, setting and subject. You’ll learn techniques unique to photographing a Maiko, and portraiture skills you can apply to other subjects in the future. Your host will bring professional lighting equipment and teach you how to use it alongside the soft natural light within the space.

Our plan: To walk through the magnificent Quiraing and climb to the base of the Needle, a 120 ft jagged pinnacle, for views of the Outer Hebrides.  

Weather forecast? Fair, says Harry, the winds will blow away the clouds and midges.

Highlights from the photo-hike: ☀️Awe-inspiring view of Loch Cleat (above). 💦 Scrambling over the steep cliffs on springy heather. 🐾 Checking out the structures that have been named — The Needle, The Prison, The Table — and naming those that haven’t. ⚡️Noting the exact moment when the weather turns on us. ❄️ Getting shrouded in mist and fog, and unwittingly playing hide-and-seek at the top of the ridge (this is, after all, where locals hid their sheep from raiding Vikings). 💨 Howling winds over 50 mph trying to gust us off the slopes. 💧Rain coming down in full force. ☁️ Feeling my spine tingle as clouds swirl around me in this unreal landscape.

Dramatic: Lovrijenac Fortress

Pyrgos is a trendy hilltop medieval village. It’s full of little winding, narrow streets constructed haphazardly on the hills alongside multi-colored houses and doors. We lose our way several times and keep looping back to the same point .. using that as an excuse to check out yet another local art gallery constructed unobtrusively into the hillside. 

During the 15th and 16th century, the locals defended themselves from pirates by erecting kastelias .. fortified buildings. Pyrgos has the best example of these medieval buildings on the island. It also has the oldest churches.

We stop at a home with a large blue door .. and the views are stunning but give an impression that Santorini is flat and covered by vineyards instead of being a caldera. 

The one fascinating feature of homes here is a long, deep chimney for ventilation. And the strong winds make howling noises through the chimneys.

In Pyrgos, we visited vineyards ... but that’s a different story.

Old Blue Doors

On a snowy winter evening, we stand on a ridge and see the brightly-lit church through the mist ... an evocative but calming place. 

Very different from 1000 years ago as Vikings stood here and declared the laws of the land ... the oldest continuous two weeks in the summer parliament. People heard from their leaders, settled disputes and traded.

The best part of the Golden Circle circuit, Thingvellir National Park has hiking trails, waterfalls, summer cottages for the affluent (singer Björk has a home) and the Silfra fissure divers can explore between the American and Euroasian tectonic plates.

The sky is changing color. We should leave, we tell each other ... but we are drawn to the scenery like a moth to the flame.

I am completely fascinated by Buddhist prayer wheels. Our guide tells us that we should walk clockwise, turning the wheel and chanting, “Om Mani Padme Hum”. “Will that give me extra strength to climb up to the Tiger’s Nest monastery tomorrow?”, I ask him. “Absolutely”, he says earnestly. Well, at least one of us has faith, I think to myself.

Paro Taktsang - or Tiger’s Nest monastery - hangs off a cliff at a dizzying 10,240 feet over the Paro Valley. It’s a 5 hour climb, punctuated with lunch. Not too tough, as it turns out. I must be fitter than I think. But the guide reminds me - “See, I told you so”. 

The hike (including getting to the trailhead) takes about 6-7 hours, depending on how much time you spend at the monastery. 4 miles round trip on a wide dirt trail. At the halfway point is a cafeteria - and for most people, getting to this point is the toughest part of the hike. Beyond this, both the scenery and the difficulty of the climb are in your favor.

Hope, Faith and Happiness

Emporio Village, located in the southern part of Santorini, is a picturesque and historic settlement that offers a blend of traditional Cycladic charm and medieval intrigue. Known for its labyrinthine alleys, striking architecture, and peaceful atmosphere, it is one of the island’s oldest and largest villages. Emporio’s authentic character and rich history make it a must-visit for those seeking a quieter, more cultural side of Santorini.  
1. The Castelli (Castle), a medieval fortress at the heart of the village, features narrow passageways, arched alleys, and colorful doors, transporting visitors back in time. 
2. Traditional Cycladic architecture, with whitewashed houses and blue-domed chapels, lines the streets, creating a serene and photogenic setting. 
3. Emporio is dotted with historic churches, such as the Church of Panagia Mesani, showcasing exquisite frescoes and local religious traditions. 
4. The village is surrounded by peaceful farmland and vineyards, offering a contrast to Santorini’s dramatic caldera views. 
5. Nearby beaches, such as Perivolos and Perissa, are just a short drive away, making it easy to combine a cultural visit with relaxation by the sea.

Emporio Village

Amfissa, Greece, is home to the Lion of Bavaria Monument, a lesser-known but historically significant statue that commemorates the close ties between Greece and Bavaria in the 19th century. Erected in 1836 by order of King Ludwig I of Bavaria, the monument honors the Bavarian soldiers who accompanied King Otto, the first modern king of Greece, following the country’s independence from the Ottoman Empire. Set against a peaceful natural backdrop, the lion stands as a symbol of strength, loyalty, and the enduring connection between the two nations.
