The first stop is a tour and tasting at a traditional winery carefully selected by Julieta. This winery is a small-scale affair and remains in the hands of the original family. You will enjoy a personalized tour joint-hosted by Julieta and a wine expert from the estate, learning about the production methods and hearing about how the oenologists blend their latest releases. 

The second stop is an independent olive oil producer, where you’ll tour the facilities and learn how cold-pressed oils are made. This includes a tasting with freshly-baked bread and local seasonings before sitting down to enjoy a light lunch fashioned from seasonal and local ingredients.

Corviale is one of the most ambitious and controversial housing projects ever built in Rome. Conceived in 1972 and stretching for nearly a kilometer, this massive complex—locally known as Il Serpentone (“the big snake”)—was inspired by Brutalist and Rationalist architecture and designed to house 8,500 people.

Walking through Corviale today means entering the layered story of a city that, in the 1970s, faced deep social inequality—when a third of its population still lived in shack settlements. This experience unfolds as a moving urban workshop: you’ll explore the hopes and failures that shaped this space, from its utopian promise of public housing to the long years of abandonment, marginalization, and stigma.

As the district undergoes a slow and ongoing transformation, this walk invites you to question what renewal really means, and how architecture, policy, and community intersect in the making—and remaking—of a city.

This experience offers a rare chance to explore Corviale with a sociologist who has spent years studying the urban stereotypes often attached to Rome’s outskirts. As you walk through the architecture and social fabric of this monumental complex, you’ll gain insight into the hopes and contradictions that shaped it.

I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. All my life, I called it |trom-sow|, but the locals insist on |troom-sa|. 

The drive through Andøya and Senja was so spectacular that we wanted to abandon our itinerary and stay on the islands overnight vs. driving into Tromsø. And then I would have missed a dramatic sunset/dawn. Everything - sky, sea, windows on buildings, Arctic Church, mountain tops - blazed fiery red for an hour before turning into several shades of blue, with bright pink thrown in for effect. It stayed like that all night long. 

The locals can’t seem to stop partying through Friday night all along Storgata, so the people-watching is riveting. We’ve got to sleep at some point, we kept telling each other.

Miramare Castle, overlooking the Adriatic Sea near Trieste, is a stunning embodiment of 19th-century eclecticism. Archduke Maximilian lived in the castle for only a few years before moving to Mexico, where he was appointed emperor and later met a tragic fate. The castle’s interiors reflect the life and tastes of this period, with poignant artworks like "The Last Moments of Maximilian" adding depth to the visit.
3 - The castle is surrounded by Miramare Park, a 22-hectare area featuring a mix of Northern and Mediterranean botanical elements. This English-style garden, conceived by Maximilian himself, is a harmonious blend of forest-trees, bushes, ponds, and sculptures, offering a serene escape and a contrast to the Baroque garden tradition.
4 - Inside the castle, visitors can marvel at an array of art and cultural treasures. From paintings and sculptures collected by Maximilian during his travels to the marine life museum housed in the restored stables, Miramare Castle is a trove of artistic and historical significance.
Visitors can explore on their own or opt for guided tours or audio guides. The park, with its diverse flora and tranquil ponds, is freely accessible, offering a perfect setting for leisurely walks.

Known for housing the most extensive collection of national treasures in Portugal, the museum is a journey through time, showcasing works from the 12th to the 19th century. Top highlights:
1 - Architectural Splendor: The museum's architecture is a masterpiece in itself, with grand arches and soaring ceilings that create a mesmerizing ambience. The building, once the Palácio Alvor-Pombal, is a testament to Portugal's rich history, and its gardens offer a tranquil escape with views of the port and the 25 de Abril Bridge.
2 - Artistic Masterpieces: The museum's extensive collection includes notable works like Hieronymus Bosch's "Temptation of Saint Anthony" and Albrecht Dürer’s "Saint Jerome". It also features the Belém Monstrance, made with gold and gems brought by Vasco da Gama, and fascinating Japanese screens depicting the Portuguese arrival in Japan.
3 - Portuguese and European Works: The museum's Portuguese gallery includes significant works like Gregório Lopes’ “Martyrdom of St. Sebastian” and Domingos Sequeira’s “The Adoration of the Magi”. Australia

The best thing about visiting Australia is that scenic views and spectacular nature are just a stone's throw away, no matter where you are. If you're in Sydney, you won't get a better view of the ocean than walking through Royal National Park and taking Bundeena Drive to Marley Walk.

Passing through scenic heathland with small trees, you'll soon come to a bushwalk through a denser forest. We saw many native bird species, including the famous cockatoo, had a dip in one of the pools along the way, and took stunning sunset photos as you look out over the wild ocean. The tourist highlight is Wedding Cake Rock, but our personal star was Marley Beach, a dreamy, hidden sandy beach where you can relax and dip your feet in the refreshing water.

You can rent a car and drive directly to Bundeena, but we decided to take the train from Sydney to Cronulla and from there take the ferry to Bundeena.

The Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Agrigento, Sicily, is a breathtaking testament to Greek civilization in Italy. Spanning over 1300 hectares, this archaeological marvel showcases some of the best-preserved Ancient Greek structures in the world, enveloped in a landscape of olive trees and almond blossoms. Here are the no-miss highlights:

1: The site's most iconic structure is the Temple of Concordia, one of the best-preserved Doric temples in existence. Erected in the 5th century BC, it stands as a stunning example of Greek architectural prowess and harmony.

Piazza del Campidoglio, is a marvel of Renaissance design by Michelangelo. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, celebrated for its harmonious symmetry and the significant historical buildings that surround it. The square offers a view into Rome's rich past through its stunning architecture and the iconic statues that adorn the space. Here are some reasons to visit:
