She will share insights into her creative process and the techniques behind large-scale public artworks. Through an interactive presentation, you’ll explore some of her murals across Chile and beyond, gaining an understanding of how street art reflects cultural narratives and urban identities.

Inside her studio, you’ll view a curated selection of her works, from completed pieces to works in progress, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at an artist’s evolving practice. The session also provides an opportunity to discuss the role of public art in shaping communities and the inspirations that fuel her vibrant, large-scale creations.

This rare-access, behind-the-scenes experience takes place in the private studio of an artist whose work bridges the cultural landscapes of Chile and the United States. Shannon will share little-known stories about how she integrated into the local art scene and provide an overview of Chilean artistic traditions, from muralism to contemporary public art.

As an artistic director, Shannon collaborates with fellow muralists and actively champions the community aspect of street art. Originally from Minnesota, multimedia artist Shannon McEvoy studied in Viña del Mar in 2010. The country and its people left a lasting impression on her, and she quickly returned after graduation. Inspired by the street art of Valparaíso, she incorporated Chilean muralism into her undergraduate Honors Thesis and later became a muralist herself.

Shannon has lived in Chile for over 10 years, where she teaches English and creates murals—though her talents extend far beyond. She also paints, sketches, makes ceramics and jewelry, designs her own clothes, and experiments with photography. As an artistic director, she has overseen several monumental public art installations in Santiago and beyond.

Passionate about both art and language, Shannon sees them as powerful tools for self-expression and meaningful connection. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she also speaks basic Portuguese.

This private visit to the Borghese Gallery introduces one of Rome’s major art collections, housed in the 17th-century villa built for Cardinal Scipione Borghese. Moving through its frescoed rooms, you encounter works by Bernini, Caravaggio, and Canova that shaped the language of early Baroque. You observe movement carved into marble, tension created by light, and dialogue between sculpture and painting. The works are part of one ambition — a cardinal assembling beauty as power.

After the galleries, the experience shifts outdoors to the lake in Villa Borghese, part of the 19th-century landscape garden developed as a retreat for the Borghese family. A sumptuous picnic is arranged among cypress and umbrella pines. By linking art and setting, interior and exterior, you experience the villa as it functioned in its time — a residence, a display of power, a cultivated retreat. The shift in pace from rooms to water reflects how art and environment were meant to coexist within a single vision.

In this curated experience, you’re able to view Villa Borghese not as a museum, but a private world shaped by vision, power, leisure. The lake and landscape were an extension of the Villa, where nature reinforced the aesthetics of the interior.

You approach the works in the Gallery with intention and sequence, allowing Bernini’s sculpture, Caravaggio’s light, and the frescoed ceilings to be understood in relation to one another rather than as isolated highlights. Access to Borghese Gallery is strictly timed and limited, each visit confined to a fixed window. Without careful pacing and a private guide, the two-hour villa visit can be overwhelming. Tastings and conversation connect food to land and seasonal rhythms. Later, the pace softens in Marzamemi, where time is left to explore the former fishing village. The night is spent near the southeastern coast.
DAY 7 – MOUNT ETNA AND TAORMINA | The final day is anchored by a guided hike on Mount Etna, where volcanic terrain reveals Sicily’s most elemental side. Walking across lava fields and open landscapes offers insight into the island’s geology and living ecosystems, followed by a shared lunch on the slopes. The journey concludes in Taormina, where the final night is spent overlooking the coast and the Ionian Sea.
WHERE TO STAY IN SICILY | Palermo’s historic center works well for the first night, offering walkability and atmosphere. Along the western coast, coastal stays provide calm and proximity to nature. Marsala and Agrigento suit travelers who prefer to stay close to cultural sites. Ragusa Ibla is ideal for baroque architecture and quiet evenings. Near Ortigia and Marzamemi, coastal towns balance charm and ease. Around Mount Etna, countryside or Taormina-area stays allow for a smooth and scenic ending.

Zingaro Nature Reserve

Granada's Jewish and Gypsy neighborhoods, the Realejo and Sacromonte districts, are two of the most culturally significant and historically rich areas of the city. Both neighborhoods offer a unique look into the diverse heritage that shaped Granada, with the Realejo reflecting the city’s Sephardic Jewish history, and Sacromonte being the heart of Granada’s Gypsy (Roma) culture and the birthplace of the passionate Zambra flamenco style.

Highlights of Realejo (Jewish Quarter):

1. Historical Streets: The Realejo neighborhood, once known as Garnata al-Yahud, was the vibrant Jewish quarter of Granada before the 1492 expulsion of Jews from Spain. Its narrow, winding streets and whitewashed houses retain much of their medieval charm, making it a fascinating area to explore.

In the heart of Fes, the Chouara and Sidi Moussa tanneries stand as enduring relics of the Middle Ages, their practices largely unchanged since that era. Here, the ancient art of leather tanning transforms raw hides into beautifully supple fabrics through a strikingly colorful yet arduous process. As you navigate the narrow alleys leading to the tanneries, the air grows thick with a pungent aroma, a hallmark of this traditional craft. Things to look for:

1. The Chouara Tannery, perhaps the most famous in Fes, alongside Sidi Moussa, offers a rare glimpse into the labor-intensive process of leather production. Hundreds of workers from multiple generations of families toil from sunrise to sunset. They labor over open vats filled with a vivid mosaic of natural dyes and pigeon dung, an essential component in softening the leather. This spectacle of color and effort unfolds beneath the Moroccan sun, casting a palette that feels almost surreal against the earthy tones of the Medina.

2. Visitors are handed a sprig of mint to ward off the overwhelming smells. The sensory overload is part of the experience!

3. Guides explain the dyeing process, pointing out the use of natural ingredients like saffron, poppy flower, indigo, and henna. 

4. After dyeing, the leathers are laid out to dry on the nearby rooftops, creating an iconic and photogenic scene that defines the visual landscape of the tanneries. 

5. A visit to the tanneries is an education in the tenacity and skill of the Moroccan artisans who maintain these centuries-old techniques. Despite modern advancements, these methods have resisted change, preserved by the artisans’ dedication to their heritage. 

As you leave, the sight of the vibrant leathers, the sound of workers chanting in rhythm, and the smell of natural tannins linger, leaving a lasting impression of a craft preserved in time. Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes as the area can be wet and slippery.
