Kyoto-based artist Rachel takes you on a relaxing journey exploring the breathtaking scenery of Kyoto's Higashiyama area where at each destination, she will teach you how to capture the elegant beauty of Kyoto using Japanese watercolors.

You will stroll through neighborhoods featuring temples, shrines, parks, and rustic buildings in search of inspiration, but at a gentle pace that allows you to see authentic life in Kyoto that you might miss by trying to maximize the number of highlights you can visit in one day. In fact, Rachel lets you set the pace for the day, whether you prefer to visit more locations to do some quick sketches or just a few doing in-depth sketching.

As you explore, Rachel will explain the rich history and culture about the places you will visit, paying close attention to the details and nuances a casual visitor might overlook. During your walk, you'll have time to enjoy a snack featuring a local Kyoto specialty, and of course, a tea to go along with it.

Drawing from her experience as a long-time resident artist of Kyoto, Rachel has selected an area with a variety of sketchable locations that are completely customizable based on seasons, weather, and your skills and interests. Whether it be the majestic Gion Weeping Cherry Tree in the Spring, stone-lined streets of Nene-no-Michi in Autumn, or a snow-dusted Yasaka Pagoda in the Winter, Rachel’s helpful instructions will have you creating a unique watercolor keepsake of your memories of Kyoto. Rachel is an artist and instructor based in Kyoto, Japan. Combining her formal Western art training with her ongoing studies of Eastern art traditions (such as sumi-e ink painting), her work is focused on expressively capturing the scenery of Kyoto en plein air.

Her watercolor paintings of Kyoto have been featured in the Kyoto Journal and her sumi-e paintings displayed in the Nippon Suibokuga Art Association's annual shows.

An experienced educator, she has offered on-site sketching and painting classes in Kyoto for over 7 years, working with a full range of ages and experience levels. Her instruction style is personalized and supportive, aimed at giving participants both the practical skills and confidence to continue creating art of their own.

Her philosophy is that by taking time to sketch and paint, whether while traveling or in daily life, one can forge a special relationship with one's surroundings and make unforgettable memories.

Unlike many cooking classes in Marrakesh, this experience is private, intimate and timed for an early dinner, featuring a selection of thoughtfully curated dishes to prepare and enjoy. It’s also intentionally designed to support a social mission: a portion of your fee goes directly to Amal Center, a nonprofit that provides training and job opportunities for women from vulnerable backgrounds.

Amal is more than a cooking school—it’s a space of transformation, offering hope and vocational skills to women rebuilding their lives. Under the guidance of the team Nora has created and trained, you’ll learn to make Moroccan classics like tajine, couscous or pastilla—while gaining insight into the flavors, techniques, and cultural meaning behind each dish. This is a blend of culinary depth, cultural immersion, and social impact.

We start by learning the different spices that go into Moroccan cuisine.
Then we get to work! After we do the basic prep of our dishes, we put them on charcoal to cook and use the bellows to make sure the fire is hot.
Once our fires are going nicely, we sit and enjoy a tea ceremony, where the hosts will talk about Amal Center, it's special mission to empower women, as well as any and all questions guests may have about Morocco in general.

This experience was created by Nora Fitzgerald Belahcen, founder of the Amal Center—a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women through culinary training and job placement. The session is led by the on-site manager and supported by members of Amal’s original team of chefs—women who helped shape the center and now lead with warmth, confidence, and skill.

Nestled in the heart of the old town, this elegant plaza is surrounded by some of Valencia’s most important landmarks, including the Cathedral of Valencia, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Forsaken, and the Palace of the Generalitat. With its ornate fountains, lively cafés, and centuries of history, Plaza de la Virgen is a must-visit for those looking to soak in the city’s cultural and architectural beauty.

A road trip through Spain is literally the best option for those looking for a local, less touristic experience. You can basically rent a car anywhere you want – we started in Barcelona, heading down the coast, and taking stops in Ebro Delta and Denia and other sleepy beach towns down the road. One of our highlights was the Spanish town of Cartagena – a historical hub with beautiful angled roads, traditional culture to explore (expect to be invited to some Cerveza by the locals), and history lessons about Phoenician traders, Roman soldiers, and Christian Reconquistas. If you have some days left, visiting Andalusia is a must. It's by far the most beautiful region in Spain and is known for its majestic horse breed, pristine beaches, hot weather, and super friendly culture. 
All in all, it took us two weeks to get down the coast – but you can make it in a week as well – though you might have less time to explore, sunbathe, and learn about the history of Spain
