This experience is a private tour of Galería Artkinson, one of Valparaíso's most intriguing independent galleries focused on urban art and contemporary expression. Named for its proximity to the beloved Paseo Artkinson walkway, the gallery is co-managed by a quintet of local artists each with their own specialty across painting, engraving, sculpture, and jewelry craft. Each artist has a different style which makes for one of the most eclectic experiences in Chile's Capital of Culture.

This private viewing experience is hosted by one of the five artists. It consists of an in-depth description of the original works showcased in the gallery and the studio, where you'll learn about the different materials, symbols, and ideas behind each piece. This private viewing of Galeria Artkinson is hosted by one of the five resident artists who collaborate in the studio. Moro "Newenki" Pichilaf specializes in wood engraving, stencil art, and painting alongside mural art with fellow graffiti artists Don Peluca and Cuellimangui. Fernanda González works with plasticine installations whereas Klaus Tordo is a master at metal engraving and the botanical practice of Kokedama.

The host of the experience depends on the date booked. In most cases, you will meet at least one further resident artist during the visit besides the host artist.

You'll transform discarded paper into handmade creations and experiment with vibrant local pigments like cochineal, Palo de Campeche, and Añil—dyes deeply woven into Mexico’s history, from ancestral craft to colonial exploitation. As you work with these natural colors, you'll gain insight into their ecological and cultural significance, connecting past traditions with modern sustainability.

Beyond technique, this experience invites reflection. You'll delve into the legacy of these materials and their ties to our shared environment. Through a blend of history, art, and sustainability, you'll not only develop new skills but also see everyday waste in a new light—turning the discarded into something meaningful.

This workshop is a way to create something meaningful, learn deeply, and leave with a piece of Mexico’s heritage in your hands. Here, you'll be inspired by the natural fibers and materials around you, as well as your host’s expertise in art and design. This is a special opportunity to become acquainted with traditional natural dyes—sidelined by European colonialists—such as cochineal, Palo de Campeche and Añil, working alongside practitioners dedicated to preserving sustainable textile crafts.

You will meet at the store "Donde Clara" on Calle Ámsterdam and then go through a secret passage to access the rooftop of the store. The access includes a steep metal staircase. 

This experience maker, Clara, is passionate about regeneration, craftsmanship, and preserving ancestral knowledge. She has spent years working with local artisans and creative communities, learning their techniques while exploring ways to merge creativity with environmental stewardship. Driven by a deep curiosity for self-sufficiency, Clara studies the origins of materials and the processes of cultivating and transforming fibers and dyes. She is fascinated by their social, economic, and environmental impact, believing that understanding them leads to more intentional, responsible creativity.

Clara shares hosting duties with her right-hand, Mariana, whose natural curiosity drives her exploration of material-focused creative practices. Together, they turn every workshop into an open space for experimentation, discovery, and rethinking how we create, and have collective knowledge about the city's related upcycling and craft scene which will no doubt inspire you to explore further.

This full-day outing from Santiago takes you to the coastal city of Valparaíso, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unique topography, cultural diversity, and layered architectural heritage. Hosted by a professional architect, you will be shown around the colorful Cerro Concepción and Cerro Alegre, visiting such emblematic viewpoints as Paseo Gervasoni, Paseo Atkinson, and Paseo Yugoslavo. You'll learn how the historic El Peral funicular and Baburizza Palace exist alongside other contemporary cultural projects that reflect the city’s ongoing revitalization. Among these, you'll survey the recently opened Immigrant Museum—installed in a restored former German school.

After lunch, Diego will take you to the Cerro Cárcel Cultural Park—an open, community-oriented space housed in a former prison. Nearby, you'll visit Dinamarca399, a collaborative workspace and innovation hub situated next to the historic Dissidents’ Cemetery. All locations are seen from the lens of an architect.

The port city of Valparaíso unfolds like a natural amphitheater facing the Pacific Ocean, where topographical conditions became opportunities for architectural innovation. This tour, designed and hosted by a Chilean architect, highlights how Valparaíso reimagines its built environment through adaptive reuse—linking past and present in a dynamic and complex urban landscape. Diego will discuss how the city’s urban fabric portrays a dense layering of architectural, historical, and social traces. 

As an architect, Diego has a unique perspective on Valparaíso. Rather than brushing past the viewpoints and storied homes, you will scratch beneath the surface and come to understand how the intricate systems of terraced public spaces and narrow passageways reveal a singular approach to inhabiting the landscape. The route favors the famous monuments but the commentary focuses on how they came to be and how this astonishing topography supports its living community.

Diego Baloian is an architect holding a degree from the Universidad Finis Terrae and a Master's in Cultural Heritage from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). As the founding partner at DBG Architecture and Massantiago, his work focuses on architectural design, the restoration of heritage buildings, and urban planning. He has led and participated in projects and seminars in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Switzerland, and Hungary. 

Diego has also organized conferences and exhibitions on Latin American architecture in collaboration with Guiding Architects Network, the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich (ETH).
