In juxtaposition to the prim and proper atmosphere of traditional Kyoto are the Tachinomi, casual bars invented for the Japanese blue and white-collar crowds to let their hair down. Although historically popular in working-class areas of Osaka, tachinomi have more recently appeared around Kyoto, some with a twist of the local culture ingrained in their Osaka roots.

Your experience begins with your expert guide giving you a primer on the history and evolution of tachinomi standing bars in the Kansai area, as well as some tips on how to fit in with the locals. From there, he will take you to some of his favorite tachinomi, from rooftop cocktail bars to racous hole-in-the-wall establishments, introducing you to patrons, staff, and owners alike.

Chile

This full-day experience immerses you in the Atacama's most dramatic scenery: its geysers, high-altitude wetlands, and volcanic highlands. Unlike most tours to El Tatio (Los Géisers del Tatio) which depart before dawn, Valeria's experience takes place once the crowds have thinned and the late-morning light draws out the remarkable hues of the minerals. A naturalist guide with a keen knowledge of geology, Valeria dives deep into this phenomenal region of geysers, fumaroles, and mud pools before leading you on a gentle hike (at 4,200 m.a.s.l.).

The excursion continues at the rarely-visited Río Blanco Wetland (Humedal de Río Blanco). Arriving after the sunrise show, you are able to appreciate the colors of the mineral deposits, the bubbling mud pools, and the geyser vents, which are tricky to see in the low light of dawn. Isabella Calidonna is an art historian with a PhD in Art History, a licensed tour guide, and a certified running coach, currently studying to become an archaeologist. Her mission is to help people discover the city from a new perspective through gentle movement. It’s not a race or a strenuous workout—it’s about well-being, discovery, and immersing yourself in Rome’s timeless beauty.

A short guided hike of roughly two hours will take you to a series of caves featuring rustic paintings and traces of human habitation dating back over 10,000 years. They depict the early domestication period of the Zapotec people, when their ancestors first settled here as hunter-gatherers. These caverns are part of a larger network of over 200 caves in Yagul, where the earliest remnants of domesticated corn—a tiny and now obsolete variety known as teocintle—were discovered. This entire area was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010.

As these caves are protected and the town operates under Indigenous law, it’s required that we travel with a local guide provided by the pueblo’s government office.

After the hike, we’ll continue the corn theme with lunch at a local restaurant, sampling one of the most iconic corn-based dishes in Oaxaca: the tlayuda. We’ll share a variety of styles, along with a refreshing non-alcoholic agua fresca.

This hike is a chance to appreciate the splendor of the Oaxacan countryside and gain insight into the earliest Zapotec people who settled in this land. Your host, a long-time Oaxaca resident with strong connections to this community, will arrange the hike with a guide from the local government office to ensure the experience complies with Indigenous law for this protected area. You’ll then explore the magic of corn firsthand by trying one of Oaxaca’s most iconic delicacies—the tlayuda. When asked about his love for Lisbon, Tiago’s enthusiasm is immediate: “I love my city! I really love the historic center of Lisbon!” Though he didn’t always feel that way. Growing up on the city’s outskirts, it wasn’t until returning after time abroad that he saw it anew. “It was as a young and independent adult with an arts and architecture degree, and with the enthusiasm to explore — that I realized how beautiful, diverse, and interesting my city is.”
For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.
As tourism evolves, Tiago points toward Lisbon’s under-known strengths. “Gastronomy, street art, tiles, contemporary architecture… there’s so much more to discover!”

Wire Pass, a gorge carved through the Cockscomb by Coyote Wash, is the most popular entry route into Buckskin Gulch. It takes 1.7 miles to get to the slot canyon from the trailhead. Wire Pass is short, less than half a mile, but its slot canyon is even more confined than Buckskin, and makes for spectacular photos.

Buckskin Gulch twists its way for another 13 surreal miles, but we turn back after a couple of miles to head back to the trailhead. We’ve stopped every few feet to capture various angles of the rock and light - and literally run out of time. You could certainly do a wonderful all-day hike here.

5. Panoramic Views and Sunset Moments: For a panoramic view of the Forum, climb up to the Palatine Hill, especially enchanting at sunset. The hill offers a serene vantage point from which to contemplate the grandeur of ancient Rome.

I have traveled to Moab, Utah on more than one occasion and every time it has been an absolute blast! This small, more local town is home to some amazing things that you can’t find anywhere else. 

There is a place there that I travel to every time called Mill Creek Canyon. It is a short hike to a watering hole that supplies the river you will have to cross more than once. Once you reach the watering hole, you will find an amazing view and usually many friendly people depending on what time you go. 

Now, it can get pretty hot in Utah so don’t forget the water and the sunblock, as well as a swimming suit!

The main attraction there is the cliff jumping! You can climb up the small waterfall and there will be a small ledge where you can jump from into the freezing water below. Let me tell you, it’s an absolute blast that you will never forget! 

I highly recommend this location to all people, even if you’re just passing through

Finland

At Riisitunturi National Park, ancient trees enveloped in layers of sticky snow (called ‘tykky’ in Finnish) assume fantastical shapes of monsters, ghosts, birds and families of snow people. On days like this, when sunrise and sunset happen within a two-hour window, backgrounds are brushed in pinks and yellows, and foregrounds etched with tracks of reindeer, dogs and humans. 

Snow is something more than frozen water to the Sami people. It’s a way of expressing the basis of their existence.

Best time to visit? Late December to March. Getting there from Rovaniemi takes more than 2 hours each way, but the trails are easy - we did a 4 km.

Hidden beneath the rugged Karst Plateau, this natural wonder boasts a colossal underground chamber measuring 98 meters high, 76 meters wide, and 167 meters long. The sheer size and grandeur of the cave make it a paradise for geology lovers, adventurers, and photographers alike. With its dramatic stalactites, towering stalagmites, and mesmerizing rock formations, Grotta Gigante offers a breathtaking journey into the depths of the Earth.
