You'll start with every Porteño's favorite sharer—Calugas de Pescado, a platter of fried fish drizzled with lemon. Antonia Del Pedregal is a ceramic artist based in San Pedro de Atacama. She has lived in the adobe town for six years, spending the past four creating sculptures and functional pieces inspired by the desert landscape. Antonia preserves Indigenous molding techniques while working with a local clay she has adapted to suit her own style and needs.

Before following her heart north, Antonia briefly worked in advertising and later as a pastry chef in Puerto Varas. Although cooking remains one of her passions, she found her true calling in San Pedro after a chance encounter with ceramics and stoneware. Primarily self-taught, Antonia draws inspiration from the stark landscapes, resilient nature, and connections she has built with the Atacameño community. Ana Isabel Ramos is a designer, illustrator, artist, and children’s book author living in Lisbon, Portugal. A native of this city, Ana has made Lisbon her home after living on three different continents. Having first-hand experience of being a foreigner when living abroad, Ana knows how long it can take to get to know a new place and believes sketching is a shortcut to it.

She has been sketching all her life and as a daily practice since the beginning of 2021. This consistent routine has helped change her relationship with time and space. She believes sketching slows everything down and affords a different connection with the people around us and the place we’re at.

This walk traces lesser-known paths along the caldera, beyond the main trail most visitors follow. It begins above Oia, where the island opens up to expansive views, then branches off into routes that wind past deserted caves, lava-shaped spires, and small chapels carved into the cliffside. Hawaii’s Big Island has a lot to offer, including the view from the Southern most point in all of the United States. Unfortunately, there is no real marker for the location. The waters are gorgeous and there is a place to jump in from a height.

Devrent Valley, often called Imagination Valley, invites visitors to unleash their creativity as they explore its whimsical rock formations, which resemble animals and other shapes.

Imagination Valley

You can't spend holidays in Barcelona without also visiting the Sagrada Familia. It's probably the city's biggest attraction – and for a good reason. 

La Sagrada, a Roman Catholic church, dates back to the 19th century but is still under construction (some expect it to be finished by 2026, but in my view, 2030 is a safer bet). We opted for a walking tour to the monumental building with high pinnacles, numerous squiggles, and 3-dimensional interior design. Later, during the tour, we discovered the works of art by Sagrada’s architect Gaudi, including Casa Batllo and Casa Mila (La Pedrera). 

The Sagrada Familia is located a little northeast of the city center and is easily reached by metro, bus, or cab. We stayed about 5 hours in this part of the city – as we visited not only the church but also the surrounding area and had some fresh fish to eat in the nearby restaurants. You’ll also find many souvenirs – including miniature La Sagradas, a great gift to bring home!

Walking Tour: Sagrada Familia

The hiking trail from Fira to Oia is one of Santorini’s most iconic experiences, offering a breathtaking journey through stunning landscapes, traditional villages, and dramatic caldera views. This 10-kilometer (6-mile) trail connects two of the island’s most picturesque towns and immerses you in Santorini’s natural beauty and charm. Whether you’re chasing sunrise or sunset, the trail is a must for adventurers and photography enthusiasts. 
1. Spectacular Caldera Views accompany you throughout the hike, with endless vistas of whitewashed villages perched on cliffs and the sparkling Aegean Sea below. 
2. Pass through traditional villages like Firostefani and Imerovigli, where you can admire charming Cycladic architecture and tranquil chapels.

Visitor Tip: The hike takes approximately 3–5 hours depending on your pace and photo stops. Start early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat, and wear sturdy shoes. Carry water, snacks, and sunscreen, as amenities are limited along the way.

Museo Correr

Mexico City, Mexico, is home to the Biblioteca Vasconcelos, an architectural masterpiece and one of the most spectacular modern libraries in the world. Opened in 2006, this "mega-library" blends futuristic design with a vast literary collection, featuring floating bookshelves, towering glass walls, and open metal walkways. Named after José Vasconcelos, a key figure in Mexican education and culture, the library offers a serene space for book lovers, students, and photographers alike.

Biblioteca Vasconcelos

The Moroccan fig liquor is beginning to sneak up on me. Or perhaps it’s the jet lag. The soulful music of the live folk vocalist is not helping either. 

We’re waiting for dinner, in the courtyard of a restored Riad. It’s a good thing I haven’t eaten much during the flight because very soon, it’s clear that they expect me to have the appetite of a small army. 

The food is absolutely delicious, and here’s what I learn:
“Salad” is a selection of 5-10 amazing dips served with khobz - flatbread. 
Pigeon pastille is a must-have any time you see it on a menu!
Tagine of lamb with fluffy couscous - when cooked to perfection as it is here - is irresistible. 

This is followed by an elaborate dessert course, mint tea prepared with precision and ceremony, gnawa singers and a belly dancer who insists on audience participation. 

This story celebrates a series of unforgettable meals in Marrakesh - some in fine restaurants and others on the street.

Of Pigeon Pastille
