What is this?
Experience the elegance of Ottoman miniature painting in this exclusive workshop that incorporates the rich tradition of gold leaf detailing. Historically, miniature paintings were adorned with gold to highlight figures, landscapes, and celestial elements, lending them a luminous, almost divine quality. Held at a studio in the Fatih District, this three-hour workshop allows participants to engage with this rare and luxurious technique under the guidance of master artist Şeyma Çınar.
During this session, you will learn the fundamentals of miniature painting, from traditional brushwork to layering vibrant pigments. You will also work with real gold leaf powder, mastering the delicate application techniques that add depth and brilliance to miniature art. While you take in the techniques you'll have a chance to chat with Şeyma over Turkish tea and snacks and learn about her artistic journey.
What makes this unique?
This is one of the only short-format miniature art workshops that incorporates the gold leaf technique, an element traditionally reserved for elite palace artists. The use of premium materials elevates this experience, making it a rare opportunity to create a piece that mirrors the splendor of historical Ottoman manuscripts.
Miniature painting offers stillness through focus, tradition, and craft. Guided by a master, each brushstroke becomes an act of quiet attention—slowing time, steadying the mind, and linking present to past. In Tezhip, gold leaf carries more than beauty; it embodies light itself, lending quiet reverence to every detail.
Guided by a certified and renowned miniature master, this workshop condenses a technique that typically requires years of training into an engaging, hands-on session. The intimate setting and community-centered environment make it an enriching cultural experience, blending historical artistry with practical skill-building.
