What is this?
This delightful, immersive experience introduces you to delicious street foods and the daily morning routines of the local merchants who have been preserving Turkish culinary traditions for centuries. Weave through the streets around the Grand Bazaar as the city wakes up on this early breakfast venture. Sample typical Turkish treats, far from the tourist offerings, and share a table with local shopkeepers as they go about their day.
Our journey begins with a taste of freshly baked goods sourced directly from small family-run stalls. You'll get a taste of Istanbul’s authentic street food scene, helping you fuel up for a day of exploration or shopping along the historic peninsula. From savory treats to sweet bites, you’ll visit beloved breakfast spots and get to know the vendors behind the scenes.
Most importantly, you'll learn what a traditional Turkish breakfast (kahvaltı) comprises of - and how to name and pronounce the essential dishes that start each day.
What makes this unique?
The Grand Bazaar, one of the world's oldest and largest covered markets, comes to life early in the morning, and your breakfast journey will offer an insider’s view into this historic maze as it wakes up.
Depending on the day you visit, you might get a chance to savor freshly baked simit, often referred to as the "Turkish bagel," and pair it with local cheeses and tea, or clotted cream (kaymak) with honey (bal), much like the shopkeepers starting their day. Exploring lesser-known corners of the Bazaar, you'll discover hidden gems like traditional pastry shops serving classics such as lokma and börek, which have been perfected by generations of craftsmen.
From breakfast classics to street food specialties, this is your chance to experience flavors that local merchants and craftsmen enjoy on their daily commute. You’ll go through some lesser-known backstreets uncovering staple on-the-go treats and dine with shopkeepers who have been doing this for generations.
