San Mateo Almomoloa, located in the southwestern region of the State of Mexico, is home to one of the most distinct Nahuatl dialects still spoken today. Náhuatl is one of 68 indigenous languages in Mexico, and its speakers take great pride in sharing their ancestral knowledge and traditions.
During this full-day experience, you will travel by car from Mexico City to this community, where your adventure begins. Immerse yourself in the daily rhythms of local life, learning about agricultural practices and engaging in meaningful cultural exchanges. Join a lesson with a native speaker and experience the beauty of the Nahuatl language firsthand.
Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, you’ll breathe fresh air and feel the warmth of Mesoamerican hospitality. You'll participate in hands-on activities either around the traditional hearth or in the fields, and savor the flavors of locally prepared cuisine cooked over an open flame.

What is the profile of the host?
Octavio Alonso González is a Mexican linguist interested in the dissemination of Náhuatl. It is dedicated to the conservation and promotion of Nahua heritage. Its staff is excited to welcome travelers who want to be part of this wonderful experience.
In the town, you will be hosted by Guillermina Ríos Palma, a speaker of the San Mateo Almomoloa dialect of Náhuatl. She has stood out for her dedication to preserving her native tongue. She has participated as a lead collaborator in linguistic documentation projectssuch as the Náhuatl Dialectology Project led by the National Institute of Indigenous Languages. She has also been active in compiling vocabulary to safeguard linguistic memory. Guillermina is an authentic and proud Indigenous woman who, along with her family, is always willing to share her lifestyle and the deep connection her community has with nature.

What to bring?
Bring a hat or cap, sunscreen, and clothes for cooler weather. Please keen in mind that the facilities, such as the bathroom, are relatively rustic.
