During this full-day experience, you will travel by car from Mexico City to this community, where your adventure begins. Immerse yourself in the daily rhythms of local life, learning about agricultural practices and engaging in meaningful cultural exchanges. Conservation is an important topic, not only of the local language but also the environment and agriucultural practices.

Náhuatl is a language under threat, and this community speaks a particularly distinct dialect of it. The people in this community only keep this language alive by speaking it amongst themselves. In an interactive language class led by a native Náhuatl speaker from the community, travelers will learn the basics of this ancient language. The class is designed to not only teach the language but also to provide an immersive understanding of the cultural significance behind the words and expressions used by the Náhuatl people. 

During your tour through the fields, your hosts will also point of wild plants still used today for their medicinal and flavorsome properties. This is part of their domestic conservation of traditional knowledge. In addition, guests will assist the community in removing litter from the fields and roadsides.

This experience offers more than just a language lesson—it’s a gateway to understanding the heart of Náhuatl culture. Learning directly from a native speaker ensures authenticity and a personal connection, making the experience deeply meaningful. You'll be told about the importance of corn to this community, and you may also see the family preparing their daily tortillas, which you will enjoy later with a traditional lunch of soup and rice and delicious spicy salsas made with fresh ingredients.

On a trip through the fields, you will also learn about the Náhuatl people’s traditional farming techniques, including planting seeds and understanding the agricultural cycles that have sustained their communities for centuries. Octavio Alonso González is a Mexican linguist interested in the dissemination of Náhuatl. It is dedicated to the conservation and promotion of Nahua heritage. Its staff is excited to welcome travelers who want to be part of this wonderful experience.

In the town, you will be hosted by Guillermina Ríos Palma, a speaker of the San Mateo Almomoloa dialect of Náhuatl. She has stood out for her dedication to preserving her native tongue. She has participated as a lead collaborator in linguistic documentation projectssuch as the Náhuatl Dialectology Project led by the National Institute of Indigenous Languages. She has also been active in compiling vocabulary to safeguard linguistic memory. Guillermina is an authentic and proud Indigenous woman who, along with her family, is always willing to share her lifestyle and the deep connection her community has with nature.
