Likely meaning “place of coyotes,” Coyoacán was originally a village founded by the Tepanec people in pre-Columbian times. In 1521, it became the first capital of ‘New Spain’ and remained a settlement distinct from Mexico City until the 1850s. Now located in the south of Mexico City (CDMX), Coyoacán is perhaps best known today for being the home of the Frida Kahlo Museum and the impressive colonial-era architecture. 

Bruno, your guide for this tour, is an artist who grew up in Coyoacán. Through his unique perspective, you’ll gain historical, personal, and artistic context for this beautiful neighborhood. Bruno Berthier is a painter with a background in sociology and experience in diplomacy. His work is characterised by thick brushstrokes and a bold use of colour. Coming from a family of painters of Italian origin, he grew up in Mexico City’s Coyoacán neighborhood and is passionate about Mexican and international contemporary art. He has a passion for travelling and spent many years couchsurfing and meeting people across Europe and Asia. He is a member of the Quinto Piso Collective, composed of numerous contemporary artists working in CDMX. This collective works to support each other and promote Mexico City’s exciting contemporary art scene. 

Japan

Master calligrapher Eri Koyama takes you on a journey toward peace and contentment with a simple brush and ink. This private experience begins in a peaceful Kyoto temple where she explains the cultural significance of shodo, Japanese calligraphy, and how it has been used as both a form of art and meditation over the centuries. Rooted in Zen philosophy, shodo invites stillness, focus, and a deep connection between mind and body.

Next, Eri explains the tools used in Japanese calligraphy, and you'll learn to make your own ink from an inkstone. After introducing the different writing styles, she’ll guide you in practicing the foundational strokes used in each.

After a short tea break, you'll choose a favorite Japanese character or word — something meaningful to you — which you'll practice, refining your technique under Eri’s expert instruction. At the end of the workshop, you’ll produce a finished work on handmade paper, a keepsake to display and reflect on long after your return home.

This deep dive into the art of Japanese calligraphy is more than an art workshop; it is an opportunity to understand the strong bond between this ancient practice and many other aspects of Japanese culture. Eri Koyama has practiced Japanese calligraphy (shodō) for over 30 years, studying under renowned calligrapher Shōshū from the age of six. Although she holds a master’s license in the art, Eri approaches each brushstroke with a student’s humility — continuously exploring shodō’s expressive and meditative dimensions. 

In her workshops, Eri welcomes beginners and enthusiasts alike. She shares not only the techniques of shodō — brush, ink, form — but its capacity to cultivate mindfulness and creative presence. Each session becomes a moment to connect hand, heart, and heritage — a quiet, profound journey into the art of writing.

Tucked inside a former 1920s textile factory in Colonia Doctores, Laguna is one of Mexico City’s most vibrant creative hubs — and one that few travelers even know exists. Renovated in 2018 by Mexican firm Productora, the building is now a hybrid urban factory, housing studios, galleries, showrooms, and cultural spaces — but from the street, you'd never guess what’s inside.

This experience introduces you to people who make Laguna's creative community and vision: artists, designers and producers. You'll hear from people involved in the site's redevelopment and cultural programming and explore how the space functions as both a collective and an incubator for contemporary creativity.

She needed an internship for her thesis and chose Barcelona without expecting how quickly she’d feel at home.“Barcelona, 22 years ago, was a different place,” she says. “It was less cosmopolitan, more local. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. In the mist-covered Blue Mountains of Jamaica lies the enchanting Holywell Park, a hidden gem that whispers stories of nature's wonders. Amidst the lush greenery, we embarked on a long walk with a local guide, seeking tranquility. We wandered through the verdant trails, each turn unveiling a canvas of vibrant ferns, towering trees, and melodious bird songs that filled the air.

Holywell Recreational Park, situated about 3,000 feet above sea level and roughly an hour's drive from Kingston, is a haven for nature enthusiasts. The park, part of the Blue and John Crow Mountains, is a lush sanctuary that boasts several species of ferns among other flora like wild raspberries, cheeseberries, epiphytes, nasturtiums, impatients, and notable trees including the Blue Mahoe (Jamaica’s national tree), Caribbean Pine, and Milkwood. The park also supports various species of endemic birds. It offers a range of trails with varying difficulties, from easy to moderate, and can take anywhere from 20 to 90 minutes to complete, providing an immersive nature experience amidst the cooler mountain temperatures.
