Chile

This experience welcomes you into the studio of Shannon McEvoy in Providencia, Santiago’s leafiest central district, for a two-hour private meet-and-greet with the artist.

Over light refreshments, you’ll hear how Shannon relocated from the United States to Chile and established herself as a muralist working between two cultures. She will share insights into her creative process and the techniques behind large-scale public artworks. Through an interactive presentation, you’ll explore some of her murals across Chile and beyond, gaining an understanding of how street art reflects cultural narratives and urban identities.

Inside her studio, you’ll view a curated selection of her works, from completed pieces to works in progress, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at an artist’s evolving practice. The session also provides an opportunity to discuss the role of public art in shaping communities and the inspirations that fuel her vibrant, large-scale creations.

This rare-access, behind-the-scenes experience takes place in the private studio of an artist whose work bridges the cultural landscapes of Chile and the United States. Shannon will share little-known stories about how she integrated into the local art scene and provide an overview of Chilean artistic traditions, from muralism to contemporary public art.

As an artistic director, Shannon collaborates with fellow muralists and actively champions the community aspect of street art. She will discuss her latest large-scale installation, created in partnership with the Santiago Metro and the United States Embassy. This is a chance to engage in an open conversation about life as a bilingual expat in Chile, the intersection of art and activism, and creative inspiration.

Originally from Minnesota, multimedia artist Shannon McEvoy studied in Viña del Mar in 2010. The country and its people left a lasting impression on her, and she quickly returned after graduation. Inspired by the street art of Valparaíso, she incorporated Chilean muralism into her undergraduate Honors Thesis and later became a muralist herself.

Shannon has lived in Chile for over 10 years, where she teaches English and creates murals—though her talents extend far beyond. She also paints, sketches, makes ceramics and jewelry, designs her own clothes, and experiments with photography. As an artistic director, she has overseen several monumental public art installations in Santiago and beyond.

Passionate about both art and language, Shannon sees them as powerful tools for self-expression and meaningful connection. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she also speaks basic Portuguese.

The road to El Rocío is much more than a simple pilgrimage; it is a journey where emotions overflow and experiences become indelible memories. As the pilgrims make their way, they pass through beautiful natural landscapes, cross streams and wade through marshes. This 3-hour asado experience in Mendoza isn't a show, it's a rare opportunity to peek into how local families really live—and as you'll discover for yourself—food is at the forefront of the lifestyle. After being collected from your hotel, Julieta will take you to her usual neighborhood wine stores and local markets to pick up the essentials. As Julieta will tell you, part of the fun is choosing together.

Once at Julieta's home, you will partake in Argentina’s most iconic gathering: the family asado. Previa comes first— where drinks, snacks, and conversation are shared as music plays. Together, you will prepare the meat, chop the veggies, and sip wine while the embers do their thing. And after that? You will take it easy over the sacred ritual of sobremesa concluding with coffee, Fernet, and a homemade dessert. There is no need to rush and no script, just the joy of food, stories, and connection.

There is no idling around, no spectating, and absolutely no being waited on at this asado hosted at the private home of your host, Julieta. Starting with picking up ingredients and wine from unassuming neighborhood stores, you'll play a part in every step of the Argentine barbecue experience. Once at Julieta's house, you will participate fully into the process. Upon arrival, you'll explore the estate with Federico, the youngest son and a winemaker who produces organic wine from grapes lovingly grown on the family plot. You'll sample his latest blends fresh from the tanks and, if you like what you taste, you can even bottle your own wine to take home. 

Through Federico, you will learn about Juan's storied beekeeping and organic honey production methods. There is a chance to try the honey and, depending on the season, hold the hives. To wrap up the experience, Federico will fire up the parrilla for a home-cooked asado, served under the trees with laughter, stories, and wine. This is not a show. Manila first arrived in Barcelona more than two decades ago, while finishing her studies in Rome. She needed an internship for her thesis and chose Barcelona without expecting how quickly she’d feel at home.“Barcelona, 22 years ago, was a different place,” she says. “It was less cosmopolitan, more local. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. Whether through demonstrations or cultural festivals, they come together. They’re efficient and organized, but also keep that relaxed Mediterranean vibe. It’s a unique combination.”
