Born in Buenos Aires in the late 1800s, tango emerged within working-class neighborhoods as a fusion of African rhythms, European melodies, and immigrant longing. In neighborhoods like San Telmo and La Boca, tango spilled from bars and late-night cafés onto city streets and became a mirror of the city’s mood and motion. In this experience, the celebrated tango dancer, teacher, and choreographer Gisela Vidal will divulge the true story of tango culture while showing you the steps. 

In a beginner-friendly dance class at Gisela's private studio, you’ll learn the fundamentals of posture and footwork as well as the subtle, improvised cues that turn each step into a shared language. After an hour of dancing, you’ll sit down for "mate" (a traditional herbal infusion) or wine with Gisela. Growing up in Buenos Aires, Gisela Vidal danced her first tango at the age of 14. From there, she trained extensively in Tango Salon and Tango Stage style with the finest Argentinian Masters. Besides tango, Gisela has studied contemporary dance, jazz, belly dance, ballet, Argentine folk, and salsa. She has undertaken further tuition in theater and film acting, mime and clown art, and singing.

Gisela has participated in international tango festivals and major events including the opening of the Dakar 2009 in Buenos Aires. She was the choreographer and a stunt dancer for the Tango Infedele Video Clip.

During her 20-year career, Gisela has danced and coached in over 40 countries. She co-managed a tango school in Milan and coordinated the Tango Querido School in Tuscany. She launched her own jewelry business in 2018.

Chile

This 3-hour photography experience takes place on the periphery of Valparaíso in the Playa Ancha district. Upon meeting your host in a storied cafe, you'll warm up over coffee while shooting textured interiors and panoramic vistas from the roof terrace. David will then weave you past pastel-hued mansions from the 19th century and neighborhood bakeries, sharing photography tips and anecdotes.

A leisurely gander brings you to Paseo 21 de Mayo—one of Valparaíso's most enthralling viewpoints. It's wise to carry cash should you wish to purchase a souvenir from the street vendors who you'll liaise with through Daniel. The route then passes through narrow streets adorned with murals and "playful" photo spots where you have a choice of sampling a completo (Chilean hot dog) or empanada and an ice cream with humble origins and a curious legacy. The experience ends at the oldest mansion on Cerro Artillería—a photographic treasure trove—where you may opt to stick around for lunch or a Pisco Sour.

As a self-taught photographer, David has honed his talent working with both landscapes and portraiture. He has an experimental style and a keen eye for spotting easily-missed details He has a special ability to see the potential in the simple aspects of local reality and culture, and always seeks to capture them in an original way through his photography. He works with a Canon DSLR, using 50mm and 18-55mm lenses for regular shots and a 300mm lens to capture distant subjects with clarity and depth.

David draws upon his extensive archive of travel photography experiences while mentoring those visiting Valparaíso on how to capture the beauty of a city and why you should look beyond what's at eye level.

Italy

This is a truly special, atmospheric experience — nighttime, on water, in a historic boat, with strong ties to local life. You’ll board a restored topa, the flat-bottomed boat once used by lagoon fishermen, for a rare nighttime navigation through Chioggia’s canals. Gliding through the picturesque Canal Vena under the stone bridges and soft lamplight, you’ll see the historic center from the same low-water perspective only accessible by this type of boat that locals have long experienced as they move between homes, docks, and markets.

As the boat moves into the open lagoon, the lights of Sottomarina shimmer on the horizon. The sky darkens, the water mirrors the moon, and familiar places take on a different shape at night. Long-eared owls and little owls call from rooftops and trees, while night herons skim silently over the water, hunting in the dark. Damiano, your guide and a lifelong resident, shapes the journey with personal stories — pointing out corners you’d miss in daylight.

This after-dark outing is a rare chance to witness the southern Venetian Lagoon as locals do, from the water at night. Chioggia’s rhythms are still tied to the lagoon’s working culture: fishing boats returning late (Chioggia is Italy’s second-largest fishing port), lamps swinging on piers, owls calling overhead. Even with Venice only an hour away by water taxi, this place feels distant from mass tourism.

The topa itself carries history; its low draft lets you slip into corners and canals most boats bypass. Because the boat sits low, reflections feel near, and the shoreline reads differently.
