Gisela Vidal

What is this?

This intimate tango experience takes place in the studio of a celebrated dancer, choreographer, and jewelry designer. Over a relaxed two hours, you will partake in a tango dance workshop and discuss the culture of this special art, coming to understand how music, dance, clothing, and accessories come together to create what is seen on stage. Besides dancing professionally, Gisela is a jewelry designer whose work is informed by her stagecraft. Booking this experience includes one pin/brooch, designed by Gisela, which you will take home after the session as a memento. Upon arrival, Gisela sets the scene by sharing visuals from her performances at events around the world. Some stage apparel will be on display, which helps Gisela illustrate how clothing is designed for comfort and to support complex movements while adding to the elegant, sensual, and dramatic nature of the dance. After dancing the steps, the conversation continues over wine or mate (herbal infusion).

What makes this unique?

Gisela’s method is rooted in the idea that tango is a cultural ritual — she sees it as a way of forming human connection across language, background, and time. As a teacher and a dancer, she is intuitive, expressive and always personal. Although this experience includes dance tuition (suitable for beginners or improvers), the emphasis lies on Gisela’s profile as both an dancer and a designer. You’ll explore how tango’s gestures, shapes, and symbolism have influenced her tango-inspired jewelry — shaped by the same rhythm, elegance and emotional nuance she brings to her dance. You’ll see some of her clothing up close (a unique and rare opportunity), and hear how tales from her storied career over decades of dancing further kindled her creativity as she turned to jewelry design. She’ll lay bare the role of jewelry in tango culture, and how it is another form of expression and storytelling. Partaking in a dance workshop and taking a pin home completes this unforgettable experience.

What is the profile of the host?

Growing up in Buenos Aires, Gisela Vidal danced her first tango at the age of 14. From there, she trained extensively in Tango Salon and Tango Stage style with the finest Argentinian Masters. Besides tango, Gisela has studied contemporary dance, jazz, belly dance, ballet, Argentine folk, and salsa. She has undertaken further tuition in theater and film acting, mime and clown art, and singing. Gisela has participated in international tango festivals and major events including the opening of the Dakar 2009 in Buenos Aires. She was the choreographer and a stunt dancer for the Tango Infedele Video Clip. During her 20-year career, Gisela has danced and coached in over 40 countries. She co-managed a tango school in Milan and coordinated the Tango Querido School in Tuscany. She launched her own jewelry business in 2018.

What to bring?
