This photography experience takes you front and backstage at an iconic tango show in the San Telmo district of Buenos Aires. Hosted by a professional photographer, the activity starts with a 30-minute introductory talk in a San Telmo cafe where you'll learn about the camera settings and techniques required for shooting moving objects in low light. After this, you will walk a short distance to the theater where the rest of the evening plays out over photography, art, dining, and conversation.

Once seated at a premium table with a clear view of the stage, you will photograph the dancers and orchestra without obstructions. Dinner is served during the show, while Bernardo mentors you through the photography and shares cultural insights into tango culture. At a convenient moment, you will access the backstage area for the opportunity to meet and photograph the tango dancers while they prepare their make-up and costumes ahead the show.

This rare-access experience puts an immersive twist on the typical Buenos Aires tango show. Hosted by a globally published photographer from Buenos Aires, you will view this splendid performance from the perspective of an artist. The experience includes a workshop in photography, addressing how to configure your camera, composition, and techniques for shooting dancers. This enables you to capture incredible photographs during the show itself which takes place in a traditional tango house in the bohemian neighbourhood of San Telmo. “In my youth,” he recalls, “many people came here, to the Algarve, and my family—like many others—had small farms. I spent a lot of time working on these farms growing carob, figs, almonds, and olives.” These daily rituals shaped his relationship to the land. “Everybody knows the Algarve for its oranges,” he adds, 
remembering his family’s orchard. “I have good memories of my mother and my sister making lots of cakes—almond cakes, and sometimes orange cakes too.”

Moda, a charming neighborhood in Kadıköy on Istanbul’s Asian side, offers a refreshing escape from the city’s bustling European quarter. Known for its bohemian vibe and laid-back ambiance, Moda is the perfect spot for leisurely seaside strolls, sipping coffee in trendy cafes, and soaking in the local culture. Accessible by ferry, this vibrant area combines stunning waterfront views with a creative, artsy spirit that’s irresistible to locals and visitors alike.

Salta’s old town center has rich history and a living folk culture. Colonial facades, neo-classical architecture, church with bell tower and crowds of happy people meeting up with friends before dinner.

My night ends at a peña (music/social club) where local musicians perform songs and the audience sings and dances along.

There’s the chacarera, a lively partner dance with much stomping. During zamba, couples circle each other, waving white handkerchiefs. Finally in the cherished malambo, a male gaucho performs his best steps to show off his strength and boldness to upstage other competitors. Then the dancers go around the room looking for partners from among the audience, and it’s fascinating to see the eagerness of the crowd to join in.

There’s a lot of Fernet-and-Coke - or the local Torrontés - on the tables to go along, and soon everyone is singing to the chorus. Their spirit is infectious.
