Simone, a graduate in Natural Sciences with a specialization in Environmental and Land Management, has been a trekking guide in Sardinia since 2013. Samuél has lived in Paris since 2010 as a novelist, musician, and literary tour guide. He holds an MA in social theory and an MFA in creative writing. He is a member of an indie rock band and the co-founder of an independent anglophone publisher in Paris.

He taught creative writing at the Sorbonne for five years before focusing on writing and leading historical walks on modernism, existentialism, and the Nazi Occupation of Paris. His first novel, Slim and the Beast, shares its name with his band, which has played extensively across Europe. His second novel, The Requisitions, is a work of historical metafiction set in Nazi-occupied Poland.

Samuél is also fiction editor at SOUVENIR Magazine, an anglophone arts and literature magazine based in Paris.

Inaugurated in 2024, this mural celebrates the bicentennial of friendship between the United States and Chile. It was a collaboration with the United States Embassy in Chile. As one of the co-artistic directors, Shannon will reveal how it came to be and talk you through the symbolism.

Our first stop is near the first metro station in Puente Alto. From here, we will follow the route of the metro line from the outside. Along the way, we will admire a total of 4 metro stations and 84 monumental pillars adorned with the beautiful mosaics of Isidora Paz Lopez and her team from the 2014 intervention. 

Covering over 4,000 square meters, this project is considered the largest mosaic intervention in Latin America and the third largest in the world. We will walk at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to take photos. Water, electrolytes, and snacks will be provided for the walk.  

Our mosaic trek concludes at the Municipality Building of Puente Alto.  

Shannon McEvoy participated in some of the mosaic installations in Puente Alto and is knowledgeable about the others. Her walking tour focuses on the stories behind the murals: how artists collaborate and what public art represents to a local community and the overall identity of a city.

We will stop and admire the mosaic on the front of the Municipality Building of Puente Alto. This is where Shannon participated in an international mosaic event in 2014. This was organized by the artist Isidora Paz Lopez – the same artist who organized the rest of the project we have viewed. Nearby, we also have the opportunity to view the spectacular mosaics at the end of Puente Alto’s monumental metro project.

Due to Shannon’s first-hand experience, this part of the tour is where you will hear some of the most in-depth stories behind the mural process.

Originally from Minnesota, multimedia artist Shannon McEvoy studied in Viña del Mar in 2010. The country and its people left a lasting impression on her, and she quickly returned after graduation. Inspired by the street art of Valparaíso, she incorporated Chilean muralism into her undergraduate Honors Thesis and later became a muralist herself.

Shannon has lived in Chile for over 10 years, where she teaches English and creates murals—though her talents extend far beyond. She also paints, sketches, makes ceramics and jewelry, designs her own clothes, and experiments with photography. As an artistic director, she has overseen several monumental public art installations in Santiago and beyond.

Passionate about both art and language, Shannon sees them as powerful tools for self-expression and meaningful connection. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she also speaks basic Portuguese.

This private vow renewal takes place in a whitewashed chapel and on a volcanic beach shaped by lava and wind, away from the busier parts of Santorini. No audience, no staging, no performance. Only the two of you and the island itself: blue sky against dark volcanic rock, the Aegean in front of you, salt in the air.

An English-speaking officiant leads the ceremony and guides your vow renewal with simplicity and care. Maria coordinates the experience so that each part unfolds smoothly. The ceremony draws - in a respectful and non-sacramental way - on Greek wedding symbolism: floral or olive stefana inspired by traditional wedding crowns, candles, and a shared glass of Santorini wine.

After the ceremony, you take your bottle of Santorini wine and celebrate together with a Greek picnic on the beach. A professional photographer captures the exchange of vows and a portrait session of the ceremony: on the beach, in the church, and in a romantic location overlooking the caldera.

Manila first arrived in Barcelona more than two decades ago, while finishing her studies in Rome. She needed an internship for her thesis and chose Barcelona without expecting how quickly she’d feel at home.“Barcelona, 22 years ago, was a different place,” she says. “It was less cosmopolitan, more local. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. But João’s Algarve is more textured—what he calls the “poetic Algarve.” He cites writers like Sofia de Melo Breyner Andresen and José Saramago, who captured the soul of the region in images of sunsets, fruit, wind, and silence. For João, the true essence of the Algarve lies in its sensory landscape and the stories attached to it.
“In my youth,” he recalls, “many people came here, to the Algarve, and my family—like many others—had small farms. I spent a lot of time working on these farms growing carob, figs, almonds, and olives.” These daily rituals shaped his relationship to the land. “Everybody knows the Algarve for its oranges,” he adds, 
remembering his family’s orchard. “I have good memories of my mother and my sister making lots of cakes—almond cakes, and sometimes orange cakes too.”
What João wants travelers to experience is that same connection: the gestures and flavors that tie people to place. “We still recognize these things—the tradition of fishing, the dry fruits, the rituals of picking and preparing. This is what I want travelers to connect with.”
Still, he knows it's not always simple. “The Algarve is quite diverse. It’s not just one story. A good connection to the people here is important. Travelers are interested in how we live, how we spend the day, what we do.” This itinerary is João’s answer to that challenge: an immersive route where nature, food, craft, and memory guide the pace.
