The session is hosted by a professional Moroccan storyteller, a master in the art of narrative who has dedicated their career to preserving and sharing Morocco’s oral traditions. Trained in both classical storytelling techniques and modern performance arts, the host is skilled at captivating audiences of all ages. Accompanying the storyteller is a local musician, expert in traditional Moroccan instruments, who has performed in various cultural festivals and venues, adding a layer of authenticity and enchantment to the storytelling.

Mexico

Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, two famous Mexican artists whose complicated relationship has long been the topic of debate, have come to define Mexican art internationally.

This private tour through the south of Mexico City and Coyoacán is led by local experts in art history. It is the perfect way to discover this charming part of the city, and also to get to know the myths and reality of these legends' lives and work.

Andrea Bustillos and Andrea Villers are two art historians and curators with over fifteen years of experience in museums, galleries, and cultural spaces. United by a passion for contemporary art, they’ve each developed careers dedicated to enriching Mexico’s cultural landscape.

Andrea B., trained in Madrid, directed a gallery focused on contemporary painting and currently leads a national program supporting Creative Industries.

Andrea V., educated in Granada and with a master’s in Curatorial Studies, leads a consultancy that develops exhibition projects and advises on cultural strategies.

Together, they offer in-depth experiences grounded in their knowledge of the local arts scene and strong ties to artists, curators, and institutions. Portugal

Travel through central Portugal to explore three towns shaped by ceramics. Beginning in Coimbra, you encounter a faience tradition documented since the 16th century, marked by blue-and-white painting on tin-glazed earthenware and decorative motifs that reflect Portugal’s maritime exchanges and academic culture. In Alcobaça, hand-painted ceramics developed in a monastery town that became an important pottery center from the 18th century onward, known for exuberant floral forms and richly glazed surfaces. The day continues to Ílhavo for lunch and a visit to a historic porcelain manufacturer, where porcelain production placed Portugal within the wider European tradition.

You visit workshops and institutions where clay is shaped, fired, painted, and glazed. You meet artisans and factory specialists who work from small ateliers to industrial production — gaining insight into how materials, technique, and design evolved.

This experience connects three ceramic traditions that are often encountered separately. Coimbra’s tin-glazed faience — porous earthenware coated in an opaque white glaze before cobalt decoration — differs materially and stylistically from Alcobaça’s hand-painted earthenware and from the fine, high-fired porcelain produced in Ílhavo. Seeing them in sequence clarifies distinctions in clay composition, firing temperature, glaze chemistry, and aesthetic intention.

With Alexandra as your guide, the day moves between intimate ateliers, working studios, and established institutions, including the historic Vista Alegre factory and museum. Along the way, you engage with artisans and specialists, gaining insight into work refined across generations. You are invited to observe closely, ask questions, and — when possible — try your hand at painting or shaping clay. Alexandra’s long-standing relationships in the ceramic community allow the experience to unfold through conversation and connection.

Before visiting the porcelain factory, you pause for lunch in Ílhavo or nearby Aveiro. The meal reflects the region’s coastal setting, where lagoon and Atlantic influence local ingredients and preparation. Fish, seafood, and regional specialties appear according to season and availability. The setting is informal, offering time to rest and transition before the afternoon visit.

You return to Coimbra by private transfer, retracing the route inland from the coast. The drive provides quiet continuity after the factory visit and walk through Aveiro. Coastal flatlands give way again to cultivated valleys and gradual elevation.

Before concluding the day, you walk through Aveiro’s historic center, where canals cut through a compact urban grid shaped by the Ria lagoon. After pickup in central Coimbra, you begin with the city’s faience tradition, documented since the 16th century. Known for its blue-and-white decoration on tin-glazed earthenware, Coimbra ceramics reflect decorative influences absorbed through trade and adapted locally. In a working studio, you observe how the opaque glaze is applied before cobalt painting, and how brushwork defines rhythm and proportion. Coimbra’s ceramics differ from other Portuguese traditions in both tone and structure. The tin glaze creates a bright white surface that absorbs cobalt differently from later industrial methods. Designs are often free-painted, allowing variation within established motifs. From Coimbra, you travel to Alcobaça to explore a local faience atelier known for its hand-painted ceramics. Alcobaça production developed strongly from the 18th century onward, often marked by floral motifs and richly glazed surfaces. In the studio, you observe how decoration is applied before firing, and how color distinguishes this tradition from Coimbra’s blue-and-white restraint.

The visit continues with a brief walk through the Monastery of Alcobaça, founded in the 12th century by the Cistercian Order and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its Gothic architecture, austere proportions, and agricultural legacy provide context for the town’s historical development.

You travel from the interior toward Ílhavo and Aveiro, where the landscape shifts from cultivated valleys to coastal lagoon. The drive marks a geographic transition before the final stage of the day. 

Central Portugal is not uniform; agricultural valleys and coastal lagoon environments coexist within short distance. Moving between them reveals how towns developed in relation to terrain and access routes. You visit a historic porcelain factory established in 1824, one of Portugal’s earliest industrial ceramic enterprises. The complex includes production spaces and a museum that traces nearly two centuries of porcelain design and manufacture. You observe how kaolin-based clay is shaped, fired at high temperatures, and finished with precise decoration. Andrea is an anthropologist, Master Mezcalier, and singer with over 15 years of experience promoting the mezcal culture of Guerrero through her projects. Her connection to mezcal runs deep, shaped by family traditions where the spirit was always paired with music and food. Since 2010, she has played an active role in elevating Guerrero mezcal on both national and international stages.

Juan Pablo is a traditional music promoter, singer, and composer for film, theatre, and collaborative projects. He is also a dedicated advocate for preserving Cardenche music in Mexico and abroad, helping to keep this rare vocal tradition alive through performance and education.

Toledo is one of Spain's most historically significant cities, with roots dating back to a pre-Roman settlement. It was once the capital of Spain and remains a UNESCO World Heritage Site today. Over the centuries, it became known as the City of Tolerance — or the City of Three Cultures — due to the coexistence and influence of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian communities.

This private walking tour begins with a panoramic car tour of the city, followed by visits to monuments that bring Toledo's layered history to life. Highlights include the Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes, a premier example of 15th-century architecture; the Synagogue of El Tránsito, a striking example of Jewish presence and power in medieval Toledo; and the Cathedral of Santa María of Toledo, a defining symbol of Catholic influence expressed through Gothic art and architecture.

The city’s gothic quarter is full of tucked away retail treasures. This tour takes you on a magical mystery tour of the area’s stone-walled squares and hidden cul-de-sacs to discover antiquarian booksellers, ancient herb shops, and art nouveau-style boutiques trading in handmade fans, candles, and espadrilles.

The tour commences on foot at the northern end of the Gothic quarter (near La Rambla) and finishes at the southern end. You’ll weave your way through small streets and squares and past major monuments such as the cathedral and old Roman walls. 

Along the way, you’ll learn about Barcelona’s medieval history, a metropolis once so productive that it was said a blind man could navigate his way around following the sounds of artisans toiling away at metal, glass, and leather.

We arrive by RIB boat from Longyearbyen, dressed in survival suits, across a choppy Arctic Sea, with puffins and seals for company.

Isfjord Radio on Cape Linné, is an abandoned strategic communications station, with a decidedly interesting past, now converted into a stylish expedition lodge. 

Nothing could have prepared me for the extreme sense of isolation and wilderness. 

Imagine sitting all alone at latitude 79 degrees north and watching polar bears prowling outside the kitchen window. Two days ago, that is exactly what the staff at Isfjord Radio did.  After all, Svalbard’s travel slogan reads: “3000 polar bears, 2500 humans”. 

Hiking into the middle of nowhere, or along the coast looking for 1500-kilo walruses, is done with licensed guides, a couple of mandatory rifles for protection and huskies for company. It is a beautiful, stark landscape, filled with mystery and a sense of the unknown.

Cork in São Brás de Alportel

Carved by the Dades River, the Dades Valley is one of Morocco’s most breathtaking landscapes, stretching between the High Atlas and Jebel Saghro mountains. Dades Valley & Gorges

Namibia

It’s a new day in Sossusvlei. And I am rising towards the sky, timed perfectly with the rising sun, in a wicker basket attached to a hot air balloon. It’s my first balloon ride!

The sand dunes of the Namib desert are taking their time turning orange in the glow of dawn. Our pilot tells us that in Namibia, the only time one can fly a balloon is the sunrise hour. She can’t steer the balloon but she can control the altitude, and depending on the wind channels at each altitude, choose her preferred “course”. 

It’s more peaceful than I imagined. The sound of quiet is unnerving, but no one in the gondola wants to break the peace. In fact, the only sound to be heard is the feverish clicking of cameras. I could get used to seeing the world from this perspective.

So amid the current situation of the world myself and two other friends managed to score flights to Colorado for $47. We rented a Jeep and decided to travel all around Colorado. This was my first time ever out west as I am an eastern girl! 

If you are ever able to visit Maroon Bells please do! Preferably at night so that you can watch the sun set over the mountain top! The sound coming from the small river combined with the smell of fresh air made me want to pitch a tent and never leave! The weather was not as cold as I expected. I was hoping to see more wild life but besides a few ducks there was none. I still had a fantastic time.

In Lalibela, I am moved by the devotion and faith of pilgrims who have walked for weeks, and hundreds of miles across the country, to celebrate Genna - Ethiopia’s Christmas - on January 7. Here, the year is 2011, since Ethiopia still observes a pre-Julian calendar. I am immediately taken in by the idea of being 7 years younger, albeit for a fleeting moment.

Pilgrims arrive early - between midnight to 5 am -  to get a prized standing spot inside the tiny but iconic Biete Gyorgis. As I watch pilgrims read from their bibles, often from inside their shroud, using a candle or torch, I realize I’ve never seen such fervor in worship.

By 6:30 am, Biete Giyorgis, the iconic rock-hewn church of Lalibela, has no more standing space, so these pilgrims huddle outside and around trees and pray from their copies of the Bible, guided by the chanting from the church, that fills the air with spirituality. It’s poetic and beautiful.
