This 3.5-hour architectural tour of Valparaíso, Chile, is led by local architect and master of urban planning Jaime Núñez. Jaime (also known as Ja Cariocandino) will introduce you to the city’s layered identity through a tour structured around ten public spaces that—in his expert opinion—are architecturally remarkable. Valparaíso's distinctive topography—with steep hills surrounding a narrow coastal plain—has shaped how people live, move, and build here. A short overview of natural dyes used in their process will also be included, with a special focus on cochineal—once among the most valuable trade commodities for the Spanish, next only to silver and gold. Afterward, you'll visit the town church to see the ceremonial candles in situ, followed by a traditional lunch in another town that is famous for their giant tree, which is said to be the widest in the world. 

Maestra Viviana Alávez has been producing handmade candles for over 70 years. Daniel Flores is a Mexican artist and the director of the Producción Gráfica Zanate printmaking workshop. He specializes in graphic arts and printmaking and has participated in numerous group exhibitions throughout Mexico and internationally. He has also received several grants for projects focused on graphic and plastic arts production within various communities across the state of Oaxaca. Daniel has been working professionally in the Mexican art world since 2002.

He founded Gráfica Zanate in 2007, and the studio continues to produce annual printmaking portfolios in collaboration with artists from Oaxaca, Puebla, Mexico City, and abroad.

Staying in a Berber guesthouse offers an authentic cultural experience, and packing warm layers is important, as temperatures drop at higher altitudes.
