According to the myth, when Demeter found Persephone, who had been taken by Hades, the god of the underworld, she gifted humanity with the grain of wheat and taught them bread-making to escape famine.

You will engage in hands-on bread-making, learning traditional techniques passed down from ancient Greece. Each knead and fold becomes an act of connection—with food, community and the earth.

During the Mysteries of Eleusis, a sacred celebration honoring Demeter, it’s said that participants would fast as part of their rituals. Their sole nourishment was pelanos, a special bread made from barley and wheat. Italy

This richly atmospheric experience is hosted by Angelo and Pina, known as O Capitano (The Captain) and Perzechella (Little Peach), two well-known figures in Neapolitan street theater and traditional music. It begins with an introduction to the instruments, which you also get to play, followed by a musical walk through narrow alleys.

The route moves through the historic center with songs, rhythm, and spontaneous exchanges along the way, before continuing into Angelo and Pina’s home, a traditional house that opens directly onto the street and remains closely tied to everyday neighborhood life.

There, Pina prepares a homemade Neapolitan lunch with full respect for local traditions. After lunch, the experience continues with a dance session centered on “castegnette”, small percussion instruments deeply rooted in local culture. Classic Neapolitan songs accompany the final part of the gathering, which closes with a traditional Neapolitan coffee ritual.

What gives this experience its particular force is the people behind it. Angelo and Pina are known artistically as O Capitano and Perzechella, their best-known stage characters, and their presence gives the experience a rare intensity.

Their charisma comes from many years in Neapolitan street theater and traditional music, lived as daily practice and public expression. They have also appeared in films and documentaries devoted to street artists, extending the reach of the world they represent.

Guests are welcomed into a traditional Neapolitan basso, a street-level home with a direct relationship to neighborhood life where, together with their circle of artist friends, they carry forward what they call Neorealist Tourism, rooted in local people, community-driven values, and a clear resistance to gentrification.

Angelo Picone, known as O Capitano, is a street artist in the historic center of Naples. Pina Andelora, known as Perzechella, is an actress, singer, and Angelo’s partner in life and art. She is also a remarkable cook, welcoming guests into their home with homemade traditional Neapolitan food.

Together, they live inside the world they share. With other artists, they have founded an association dedicated to preserving and carrying forward traditional Neapolitan songs and music. They are well known in the neighborhood, where art, performance, and daily life are not separate things. Their home, a traditional basso, is part of that world too: open to the street, rooted in the quarter, and shaped by a way of life in which music, hospitality, and spontaneous encounter still belong to everyday Naples.

That is why time with them feels very rare. An unfolding scene, full of exchanges, interruptions, laughter, and recognition – in a living cultural world carried by two people who embody it.

Here you can choose foods from one of many different regions of Japan, sharing small dishes so you can sample as much as possible. During good weather, enjoy the fresh air of the evening eating along the walkway at tables in front of the restaurants.

This dinner is about the tempo as much as it is about the food. Enjoy the atmosphere as local office workers unwind over drinks and fellow visitors chatting about their day in English. Even as Shibuya rapidly modernizes, the aspect of sharing food, drink and companionship never changes.

Dusk Between Eras

Your final act begins at Shibuya Scramble Crossing, the iconic image of urban Tokyo. Experience the chaos of crossing the Scramble before heading to a quieter space where you can view and film the coordinated movements of the masses from a few stories above the crossing in an exclusive space, snacks and drinks included.

Finally, a few minutes away is the historic Nonbei Yokocho, a district whose residents and regulars have fought for its survival against modern development and established itself as an intimate location to enjoy a quiet drink in an otherwise buzzy district. Passing through the enormous Torii gate, you enter the tree-lined path marking the approach to Meiji Jingu, established in 1920 to honor Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken — a shrine built from trees donated from across all of Japan. The long walk from the crowded streets of Harajuku to the main shrine is, by design, a passageway from the distractions of the city to the quiet, peacefulness of this place of great spiritual significance. This experience takes you to one of the smallest olive groves in the Alentejo. With only 231 olive trees, João’s farm has been in the family for three generations, but it was only in 2015 that he started producing olive oil.

João's grandfather planted most olive trees, but some have been here for thousands of years. Unlike the super-intensive olive groves common in the area, João's traditional approach relies solely on rainwater and eschews chemical use. This experience delves into the rich history of the farm and the meticulous process of olive oil production. You'll witness unique grafting techniques that allow different olive varieties to grow from a single tree.

This experience traces Lisbon’s riverfront through Belém, where Tejo (Tagus) River once marked the edge of empire. This district was the departure point for voyages during the Age of Discoveries, when ships sailed toward Africa, Brazil and India.

You begin in a traditional bakery to taste pastéis de nata, custard tarts made from a recipe linked to the nearby monastery. From there, you visit Mosteiro dos Jerónimos — a defining example of Manueline architecture. Its cloisters and church were built with wealth from maritime trade and house the tombs of Vasco da Gama and Luís de Camões. Cross the lawns toward Torre de Belém, a fortified tower that once guarded the mouth of the Tejo.

Praça Afonso de Albuquerque

You step into the historic bakery where custard tarts have been made since 1837 using a recipe linked to the nearby Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. After the dissolution of religious orders in 1834, the monastery’s recipe was adapted and preserved here. 

Unlike generic pastry stops, here you are experiencing a recipe with direct links to the monastery just a few minutes away. The tart embodies Portugal’s blend of humble ingredients, monastic tradition, and the imperial-era spice trade.

In 2023, Yusuke launched the community-based brand FAR EAST DARKROOM, an independent platform publishing zines and prints by emerging photographers from Japan and across Asia for a global audience. His work has been featured in Time Out Tokyo, Japan Camera Hunter, and Fisheye Magazine, and exhibited at venues including Place M in Shinjuku and Taiwan Photo.
