The Captain & the Little Peach

This richly atmospheric experience is hosted by Angelo and Pina, known as O Capitano (The Captain) and Perzechella (Little Peach), two well-known figures in Neapolitan street theater and traditional music. It begins with an introduction to the instruments, which you also get to play, followed by a musical walk through narrow alleys. The route moves through the historic center with songs, rhythm, and spontaneous exchanges along the way, before continuing into Angelo and Pina’s home, a traditional house that opens directly onto the street and remains closely tied to everyday neighborhood life. There, Pina prepares a homemade Neapolitan lunch with full respect for local traditions. After lunch, the experience continues with a dance session centered on “castegnette”, small percussion instruments deeply rooted in local culture. Classic Neapolitan songs accompany the final part of the gathering, which closes with a traditional Neapolitan coffee ritual.

What gives this experience its particular force is the people behind it. Angelo and Pina are known artistically as O Capitano and Perzechella, their best-known stage characters, and their presence gives the experience a rare intensity. Their charisma comes from many years in Neapolitan street theater and traditional music, lived as daily practice and public expression. They have also appeared in films and documentaries devoted to street artists, extending the reach of the world they represent. In the neighborhood, they are widely known, and during the walk, spontaneous exchanges with neighbors become part of the atmosphere. Their home is part of the experience too. Guests are welcomed into a traditional Neapolitan basso, a street-level home with a direct relationship to neighborhood life where, together with their circle of artist friends, they carry forward what they call Neorealist Tourism, rooted in local people, community-driven values, and a clear resistance to gentrification.

Angelo Picone, known as O Capitano, is a street artist in the historic center of Naples. Pina Andelora, known as Perzechella, is an actress, singer, and Angelo’s partner in life and art. She is also a remarkable cook, welcoming guests into their home with homemade traditional Neapolitan food. Together, they live inside the world they share. With other artists, they have founded an association dedicated to preserving and carrying forward traditional Neapolitan songs and music. They are well known in the neighborhood, where art, performance, and daily life are not separate things. Their home, a traditional basso, is part of that world too: open to the street, rooted in the quarter, and shaped by a way of life in which music, hospitality, and spontaneous encounter still belong to everyday Naples. That is why time with them feels very rare. An unfolding scene, full of exchanges, interruptions, laughter, and recognition – in a living cultural world carried by two people who embody it.

Comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended so you can move easily through the neighborhood and fully enjoy the experience. If you feel inclined, colorful, playful, or even slightly eccentric outfits and accessories are also very welcome, in the spirit of O Capitano and Perzechella, who perform in costume and bring a theatrical energy to the experience.
