Each September, for a few days, the whitewashed streets of Utrera fill with lanterns, horses, music, and the rhythms of flamenco during the Feria y Fiestas de Nuestra Señora de Consolación, the town’s annual celebration of its patron saint. Just a short journey from Seville, Utrera opens onto a feria shaped by long memory, local pride, and one of the deepest flamenco traditions in Andalusia.

Your day begins with a private transfer from Seville to Utrera — upon arriving, you’ll immerse in the stories of its artistic legacy, its place in flamenco history, and the lasting influence of the Gitano community.

You step inside an authentic family-run tent, where a traditional stew is served and singing rises naturally around the table. Catalonia, Spain, is home to the breathtaking Vall de Núria, a stunning valley nestled in the Pyrenees Mountains at an altitude of 2,000 meters (6,560 feet). Accessible only by a scenic rack railway or hiking trails, this serene destination offers spectacular views, pristine lakes, and a peaceful retreat for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Known for its shrine to the Virgin of Núria, this valley is a pilgrimage site as well as a hub for outdoor activities, including hiking, skiing, and horseback riding.


1. Take the Cremallera de Núria, a scenic rack railway that winds through lush forests and alpine meadows, offering breathtaking views of the Pyrenees.

2. Visit the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Núria, a historic pilgrimage site with beautiful mountain views and spiritual significance for Catalan visitors.

Pillowcase or jack-o’-lantern bucket?

It’s Halloween time in Beacon Hill in Boston. After much consideration, I decide that I am too old to collect candy from my generous neighbors.

So I pick up my camera instead and wander through Boston’s most historic neighborhood to celebrate its annual Halloween tradition.

Since the 1970s, this is one day when the charming tree-lined streets of Beacon Hill get packed ..
 
.. with costumed pets and people, infants dressed as pumpkins to the elderly dressed in traditional witching gear.

Watch out for the brooms. 

I run into a friend dressed up as Jamie Lannister from the Game of Thrones, complete with chopped arm hanging around his neck.

There’s a dog dressed up as a skunk.

A house on Pinckney Street is showing black-and-white Dracula movies.

Beacon Hill has the perfect Halloween atmosphere with the wrought iron, cobblestones, narrow alleys and seriously all-out decoration.
