In the afternoon, you travel to Dolores Hidalgo and visit the parish church where Miguel Hidalgo issued the Grito de Dolores on September 16, 1810 — recognized as the start of Mexico’s independence movement. The town continues to express national identity through music, civic ritual and daily life. Throughout the day, Cesar provides local insight and historical context about the region’s cultural foundations.

Morocco

This is a moderately challenging private trek to the revered Muslim shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, starting from Imlil. This trek takes you through the traditional village of Aremd and ascends to 2350m (7710ft) at Sidi Chamarouch, positioned by a picturesque waterfall. 

While the shrine itself is not accessible to non-Muslims, the area around it offers a peaceful reflective spot for a picnic and stunning views across the Atlas Mountains and up towards the summit of Toubkal. Overall, the Sidi Chamarouch trek offers a profound glimpse into the Amazigh (Berber) spirituality, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of the region’s cultural tapestry.  

On this trek, you'll follow the same scenic route both to and from Sidi Chamarouch as it's part of the trail leading to the Toubkal Summit. Francesco Serra is a master goldsmith and filigree artist. A graduate of the Istituto Statale d’Arte of Nuoro, he began his career as an apprentice before opening his own workshop, Esseffe, in 1983. For over four decades, Francesco has been creating intricate jewelry by hand, blending traditional Sardinian designs with his own contemporary vision. His work reflects a deep respect for heritage, technique, and the quiet beauty of craftsmanship passed down through generations.

Journalist and photographer Toshiko takes you on a time-slip through centuries of Edo–Tokyo history, visiting businesses that have survived generations of upheaval — earthquakes, fires, and bombings. Come and experience what happens in Buenos Aires after hours in a two-hour milonga experience hosted by a professional and globally renowned tango artist. Blending music, dance, social interaction, and traditions, milongas are deeply embedded in modern Porteño culture. The term refers to both the concept and the venue, with milongas typically being held in dance halls and cultural centers. For locals, the milonga represents community whereas for visitors, it’s an immersive cultural experience.

In this experience, Gisela will explain the cultural history of tango and what the dance means in modern Buenos Aires and wider Argentina. She will explain the etiquette and codes of the dance floor and terminology relating to tango—such as Ronda, Tanda, and Cabeceo. There is the opportunity to dance tango if you wish; however, this is optional. You are welcome to simply spectate and soak up the atmosphere from the sidelines. The experience also includes sharing wine and empanadas with Gisela.

Although both experiences are pivotal to the full Buenos Aires experience, milongas are far more intimate and authentic in comparison to watching a tango show. These are social and participatory affairs where regular people go to dance with friends and family. Some dancers are professional, others are just starting out with the steps or seeking to improve. Ultimately, the milonga stands for community and nurturing connection. There are no choreographed routines here, although you may well rub shoulders with professionals indulging in a relaxed night away from the theater!

Growing up in Buenos Aires, Gisela Vidal danced her first tango at the age of 14. From there, she trained extensively in Tango Salon and Tango Stage style with the finest Argentinian Masters. She has undertaken further tuition in theater and film acting, mime and clown art, and singing.

Gisela has participated in international tango festivals and major events including the opening of the Dakar 2009 in Buenos Aires. She was the choreographer and a stunt dancer for the Tango Infedele Video Clip. During her 20-year career, Gisela has danced and coached in over 40 countries. Our plan: To walk through the magnificent Quiraing and climb to the base of the Needle, a 120 ft jagged pinnacle, for views of the Outer Hebrides.  

Weather forecast? Fair, says Harry, the winds will blow away the clouds and midges.

Highlights from the photo-hike: ☀️Awe-inspiring view of Loch Cleat (above). 💦 Scrambling over the steep cliffs on springy heather. 🐾 Checking out the structures that have been named — The Needle, The Prison, The Table — and naming those that haven’t. ⚡️Noting the exact moment when the weather turns on us. ❄️ Getting shrouded in mist and fog, and unwittingly playing hide-and-seek at the top of the ridge (this is, after all, where locals hid their sheep from raiding Vikings). 💨 Howling winds over 50 mph trying to gust us off the slopes. 💧Rain coming down in full force. ☁️ Feeling my spine tingle as clouds swirl around me in this unreal landscape.

Cinematic Drama

San Pedro de Atacama is an oasis within the driest desert in the world at the very north of Chile. At more than 8000 feet above sea level, it sits in the center of a ring of volcanoes, the most famous of them being Licancabur. A couple of them still spew smoke.

Volcano climbing, consequently, is a very popular activity here ('why climb the volcanoes?’ - I ask. ‘Because you can!’- says the guide) and we are quickly put on a 4-day program to acclimatize ourselves to the altitude - with progressively higher altitude hikes to prepare us for the final climb. My favorite part of the hikes is the opportunity to capture the colors of the altiplano! That and the thrill of walking through the Mars like topography of the Atacama desert.

Climb Licancabur if you are an experienced climber, Toco or Corona for one day climbs. And you will have bragging rights forever for having climbed a volcano!

Volcano Climbing

On a sunrise photo-walk, we are at Piazza San Marco. At 5AM, it’s empty, other than for a few pigeons, and a photo enthusiast like ourselves. And we run across - with tripods - to get to the Canal looking out towards San Giorgio Maggiore Island.

Our objective? To watch and photograph gondolas swaying in the canals of Venice. It’s perfect for long exposure shots. The gondolas and docks are lit up by street lights and the sky has the perfect blend of dark and light.

We then rush over to the vaporetto stand near Europa & Regina Hotel overlooking Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, for another Gondola scene (pictured) while the light is still good.

So, how many gondolas can you get into one frame?

We head out down the Grand Canal to the Rialto Fish Market. Some sellers are packing up after a good morning, but we’re able to get some great shots of everyday life. 

We walk back over Rialto bridge (great for photos of activity on the Canal) back to the hotel for breakfast.

It leads to the historic Asansör (Elevator), a 1907-built structure designed to connect the lower and upper parts of İzmir with ease.
