Chile

This ceramics experience takes place just outside the adobe town of San Pedro de Atacama, in a quiet natural setting with views of volcanoes and the Martian-like plains of the world’s driest desert. A short 10-minute drive brings you to the outdoor workshop site, where host Antonia welcomes you with all the materials needed to create your own stoneware piece using ancestral Atacameño clay.

Throughout the session, you’ll shape a personal keepsake inspired by the desert’s landscapes, plants, and animals—guided by Antonia, who shares insights into the cultural and historical roots of ceramics in the Atacama region. The workshop encourages a slower, more mindful engagement with place and craft.

No previous ceramics experience is needed; Antonia offers step-by-step support. Afterward, your piece will be glazed and kiln-fired, then shipped to your preferred address. The session also includes a light breakfast shared with your host Antonia in this striking desert setting.

Antonia Del Pedregal is a ceramic artist based in San Pedro de Atacama. She has lived in the adobe town for six years, spending the past four creating sculptures and functional pieces inspired by the desert landscape. Antonia preserves Indigenous molding techniques while working with a local clay she has adapted to suit her own style and needs.

Before following her heart north, Antonia briefly worked in advertising and later as a pastry chef in Puerto Varas. Although cooking remains one of her passions, she found her true calling in San Pedro after a chance encounter with ceramics and stoneware. Primarily self-taught, Antonia draws inspiration from the stark landscapes, resilient nature, and connections she has built with the Atacameño community. She is passionate about sharing her craft with visitors, offering a window into the land and traditions that shape her work.

Paisagem Protegida Local da Fonte da Benémola and Rocha da Pena are two of Portugal’s hidden natural treasures in the Algarve region. Both areas offer an escape into the countryside, ideal for walks through diverse ecosystems and picturesque trails that showcase a different side of the Algarve’s beauty beyond its famous beaches.

1. Fonte da Benémola is a lush, river-fed landscape where springs and wetlands create a cool, green oasis. Along the gentle paths, you’ll see a unique mix of vegetation like oleanders and tamarisks, and may even spot wildlife such as turtles, kingfishers, and otters. The relatively flat trail makes it a family-friendly spot to experience the Algarve’s natural wonders.

The trail ascends to a plateau at about 480 meters, where you’ll be rewarded with sweeping vistas over the Algarve countryside. Climbing Mount Whitney was one of the most personally satisfying experiences of my 30s; the challenge and the beauty of the hike were high on my list of life experiences.

Perched above the historic Alfama district in Lisbon, the Portas do Sol Viewpoint (Miradouro das Portas do Sol) offers one of the most enchanting vistas of the city. This scenic spot provides a picturesque panorama of old Lisbon, with its white church towers and colorful houses cascading down towards the Tagus River. Top reasons to visit:
1 - The viewpoint offers a breathtaking outlook over the medieval part of Lisbon, reminiscent of a Mediterranean village or a Greek island. From here, visitors can see a tapestry of terracotta roofs, ancient church domes, and the azure waters of the Tagus River, all framed by the lush greenery of the surroundings.
2 - The Alfama district, observable from the viewpoint, is one of the oldest in Lisbon and survived the great 1755 earthquake. This area's narrow streets and traditional Fado houses add a cultural depth to the stunning views from Portas do Sol.
3 - The terrace area of Portas do Sol is a popular spot for both locals and tourists to relax, take photos, and enjoy a drink from nearby kiosks. Its vantage point makes it ideal for capturing the essence of Lisbon in photographs.

The Puente Nuevo and Ronda Bullring are two of the most iconic landmarks in the picturesque town of Ronda, located in Spain’s Andalusian mountains. Together, they represent the unique blend of dramatic natural beauty and rich cultural heritage that makes Ronda a must-visit destination. The Puente Nuevo, or New Bridge, spans the deep El Tajo Gorge, offering breathtaking views, while the Ronda Bullring, one of the oldest and most historic in Spain, is a testament to the town’s deep-rooted connection to bullfighting.

Highlights of Puente Nuevo and Ronda Bullring:

1. Puente Nuevo: Standing 98 meters (about 320 feet) high, the Puente Nuevo bridges the gap between Ronda’s old and new towns over the El Tajo Gorge. Tanzania

"If I know a song of Africa, of the giraffe and the African new moon lying on her back, does Africa know a song of me?", mused Karen Blixen in Out of Africa. I am too much of a nomad but if I ever owned a farm, as Ms. Blixen did, it would be in the Lamai Wedge - located in the triangular watershed between the Kenya border and the Mara river. Possibly the most beautiful place in East Africa. Besides being a refuge for the Great Migration after crossing the River Mara, it has great game year-round.

Until recently, no camps were allowed here, but now you can stay at the Singita Mara River Tented Camp and a few others. 

And wake up at dawn to catch the sun filtering through the clouds and mist. The Wildebeest seem a little dazed as they contemplate the scenery over the hills of Kenya while eating succulent grasses - and staying out of the way of the cheetah brothers out on a prowl, with whom we tagged along for an unsuccessful hunt. Life is tough.

Sunrise Over the Mara

Essaouira, Morocco, is home to the windswept Essaouira Beach, a stunning stretch of golden sand known as one of the best kitesurfing destinations in the world. With its steady Atlantic winds, wide shoreline, and laid-back vibe, the beach attracts adventure seekers, surfers, and sunbathers alike. Whether you’re an experienced kitesurfer or just looking to try something new, Essaouira Beach offers the perfect blend of sport, relaxation, and breathtaking scenery.


1. The beach’s consistent trade winds make it a paradise for kitesurfing and windsurfing, with schools offering lessons for beginners and equipment rentals for pros.

2. Long stretches of soft, golden sand make it ideal for sunbathing, beach walks, or simply enjoying views of the Skala de la Ville and the nearby Mogador Island.

3. The beach is lined with surf cafés and chill-out lounges, where you can relax with a fresh juice or mint tea after a session on the waves.

Valencia, Spain, is home to Albufera Natural Park, a stunning wetland reserve just 10 km (6 miles) south of the city. This vast freshwater lagoon, surrounded by rice fields and wildlife-rich marshlands, is the birthplace of paella and a haven for birdwatchers, nature lovers, and photographers. A visit to Albufera offers a chance to experience Valencia’s traditional fishing villages, serene boat rides, and breathtaking sunsets, making it a perfect escape from the urban bustle.

1. The Albufera Lagoon, one of Spain’s largest wetlands, is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including flamingos, herons, and other migratory birds, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.

There are so many museums and art galleries in Paris that it's hard to decide where to go first. Most tourists want to stand in line at the Louvre, admire Claude Monet, or visit the National Museum of Art – but as so few check out the famous street art of Paris, we knew it was our thing to do.
There is so much history behind each piece of art or painting out there that it is worth investing some extra money and time to immerse yourself in Paris's artistic exploration fully. We did a whole self-organized art walk visiting 7 streets, with an audio tour, and visited the different places on our own (though you can get a personal guide). 
Our highlight was Rue Saint-Maur – a 2km-long street painted mainly by the artist Kashink. The artist plays with classic elements of Parisian street art and combines them with modern political messages.

La Pedrera Night Experience

Antelope Canyon may be the most famous of Utah’s slot canyons,  but if you want to avoid the large crowds, go to Buckskin Gulch - harder to reach but possibly, more enjoyable.

Wire Pass, a gorge carved through the Cockscomb by Coyote Wash, is the most popular entry route into Buckskin Gulch. It takes 1.7 miles to get to the slot canyon from the trailhead. Wire Pass is short, less than half a mile, but its slot canyon is even more confined than Buckskin, and makes for spectacular photos.

Buckskin Gulch twists its way for another 13 surreal miles, but we turn back after a couple of miles to head back to the trailhead. We’ve stopped every few feet to capture various angles of the rock and light - and literally run out of time. You could certainly do a wonderful all-day hike here.
