After meeting your local guide, Gianmario Pedroni, you’ll enjoy a typical lunch learning about the Carnival traditions, before joining the parade at 3 PM. Re Giorgio eagerly awaits Mannena, accompanied by the lively Tempio City Band and a dazzling array of allegorical floats.

It begins with a guided conversation led by a Maâlem (master musician) and his ensemble, tracing Gnawa’s fusion of West African, Berber and Islamic influences. Among the most remarkable properties are Haut-Brion, a First Growth owned by Prince Robert of Luxembourg; Pape Clément, held by Archbishop of Bordeaux who later became Pope Clement V; and Smith Haut Lafitte, known for grand cru vineyards and art of vinotherapy.

Chile’s Piedras Rojas (Red Rocks) is a breathtaking natural wonder in the Atacama Desert, known for its striking red rock formations, turquoise lagoons, and dramatic Andean landscapes. Located at an altitude of over 4,000 meters (13,100 feet) near the Argentine border, this otherworldly destination offers some of the most vivid contrasts in color found in the region, making it a paradise for photographers and nature lovers alike.


1. The stunning red volcanic rocks, rich in iron oxide, create an intense contrast against the blue skies and aquamarine waters of the nearby salt flats.

2. Laguna Tuyajto and Salar de Aguas Calientes, two adjacent salt flats, offer a surreal, mirror-like effect with crystal-clear waters reflecting the surrounding Andes.

3. Panoramic views of the Andean volcanoes, including Cerro Medano and Cerro Caichinque, provide an unforgettable backdrop for landscape photography.

Piedras Rojas (Red Rocks)

Philippines

This was my first time visiting Gigantes Islands, and I was struck by the raw beauty of its cliffs and crystal-clear waters that surround its secluded beaches. There are several islands that you can hop in to and my favorite one is what the locals call the “mini boracay” because the sand sure feels like that in Boracay. Other islands are as equally awesome like the Bantigue sandbar, and Cabugay. We also explored the local neighborhood and sure has its own interesting stories. For one, I discovered that due to the abundance of scallops in the island, there’s a neighborhood that stands on a land area that’s made up of scallop shells that is meters thick! Just imagine how much scallops shells that would’ve taken. There’s a lot to explore but if you just want something that’s relaxed, you can just have a good beer by the beach from sunset til night.

What does the southern end of the world look like? After five and a half l-o-n-g hours from Punta Arenas, out of the blue appears Hotel Explora Salto Chico - and it’s breathtaking. Patagonia’s Parc Nacional Torres del Paine has picture postcard views everywhere. If you are a keen hiker, try the Circuit or the W. I stick to day hikes as a rule - if you are like me, try Grey Glacier, French Valley Glacier or Base of the Paine Towers.

Going to Extremes
