Look for Amsterdam Avenue, which forms a circular path around Parque México. Citlaltépetl Street intersects with Amsterdam. Bruno Berthier is a painter with a background in sociology and experience in diplomacy. His work is characterised by thick brushstrokes and a bold use of colour. Coming from a family of painters of Italian origin, he grew up in Mexico City’s Coyoacán neighborhood and is passionate about Mexican and international contemporary art. He has a passion for travelling and spent many years couchsurfing and meeting people across Europe and Asia. He is a member of the Quinto Piso Collective, composed of numerous contemporary artists working in CDMX. Kimono-expert Dr. Sheila Cliffe opens both her home and her closet to guests in this highly detailed, hands-on workshop exploring the beauty of kimono and the textiles used to create them. 

In the first half of this experience, Sheila will show you the full range of a kimono wardrobe, from the most formal styles worn on special occasions to casual and informal pieces that were once suitable to wear daily. She selects the pieces from her vast collection in a variety of patterns and materials, including rare and expensive weaves from remote parts of Japan. Next, you will be treated to an showing and explanation of a variety of obi, the ornate "belts" that act as both tie and accessory for the obi. The Man Who Built the Coolest Bar in the World. That would be a Jamaican fisherman from Saint Elizabeth called Floyd who thought it would be nice to have a place where he and his buddies could hang out to and from their fishing ventures. He built the bar on a sandbar a mile off the coast in Parottee Bay out of driftwood (the wood was restored after Hurricane Ivan in 2004). In between dips in the turquoise water, you can sip a Red Stripe, eat freshly grilled snapper and play dominoes. Or catch up with Floyd at the bar. Someday, I’d like to watch the sunset from there.

Smoke spewing volcano 🌋 that one can climb, tree blanketed mountains, pastel buildings, cobbled streets and quintessential garden courtyards with fountains give picture postcard views on every corner we turn.

The town Is made for walking with stone arches In bold colors, baroque architecture, churches from Spain and vibrant markets bursting with colorful woven garments like ponchos, hats & table cloth and handicrafts.

It’s the birthplace of chocolate 🍫 and there are several museums that teach how the Mayans made ‘the food of the gods’. Adjoining chocolate cafes serve decadent treats and chocolate liqueur.

The coffee ☕️ is divine too and apart from sampling the local shops, we visited a local plantation to learn about coffee making.

Antigua is one of our favorite Central American cities.

Colorful Markets

Narrows hike in Zion is a fun and challenging hike that people of all ages can try out.  Just take the free shuttle bus from the Zion visitor center to the final stop (Temple of Sinawava) and hike the riverside trail until it ends.  Great views of Zion Canyon from within!

Spend your morning exploring the charming town of Trogir, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its stunning architecture and rich history. Located about 27 km from Split, Trogir is connected to the mainland by a picturesque footbridge, making it an easy and scenic destination.

Begin your visit with a leisurely stroll through the narrow, cobblestone streets of Trogir’s old town. This medieval gem is filled with beautifully preserved buildings showcasing Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture. The town's layout, largely unchanged since its origins, offers a unique glimpse into the past.

Start at the Trogir Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of St. Lawrence. This 13th-century masterpiece features an intricate Romanesque portal carved by Master Radovan and a stunning bell tower that offers panoramic views of the town and surrounding sea. Spend about 30 to 45 minutes exploring the cathedral and its treasures.

Next, head to the Kamerlengo Fortress, a striking 15th-century fortification that once protected the town. Wander around its sturdy walls and climb the towers for breathtaking views of Trogir and the Adriatic Sea. Allocate another 30 minutes to an hour for this visit.

As you explore, take time to enjoy the quaint squares and lively waterfront promenade, where you can savor a morning coffee at one of the local cafés. The blend of historical ambiance and coastal charm makes Trogir a perfect destination for a relaxed and enriching morning.

Ecuador

Visiting Quito, a detour should be made to the “ACTUAL Equator” museum. Only a 50 meters from where it was thought the equator passed, this used science to actually find the equator. The tour guide explains a bit about Ecuador and then shows why this is the center of the earth, with a few fun examples. The water really does flush in the opposite direction in the Southern Hemisphere and apparently this is due to the Earth’s centripetal force.

The street art in Bellavista and neighboring Recoleta is, in a word, impressive. Some by established painters, others by anonymous artists working in the night.

Colorful, intricate, thought-provoking, and a clever mix of hip hop and political slant.

Street Art and Poetry

The spectacular Mayan ruins of Tikal overrun by miles of  unspoiled jungle are extraordinarily rich in wildlife incl. the elusive jaguar. 🐆 

It’s one of the few UNESCO World Heritage sites that combines both cultural and natural richness and the 500+ sq km contains numerous remains of the Mayan civilization scattered across wetlands, savannah and tropical jungles teaming with birds and monkeys.

It was a thrilling experience to wander in a place that was one of the great cities of the world around 700 AD and wonder how people lived at that time. 

We went late afternoon to take advantage of the magical light falling on the structures and our guide, Daveed, was very helpful in highlighting the important sites and the life at that time. We enjoyed watching the sunset from the top of Temple IV. A perfect filming location for Yavin 4 in Star Wars.

After the sunset, we walked in the fading light to the spectacular Grand Plaza, relieved in Daveed’s assurance that the 🐆 is shy of humans.
