Mexico

This is an uncommon dawn capsule in Xochimilco — paddle-driven and nature-focused — you’re back in the city before the canals get busy. Private pickup from your accommodation in Mexico City gets you to the World Heritage wetlands in time for sunrise. 

You board a cayuco — a native, paddle-driven canoe — for a two-hour canoeing adventure through ancestral canals and the man-made farm islands known as chinampas, in use for over a thousand years. Along the way you’ll take in seasonal flora and fauna — marigolds and water lilies on the surface, wading and water birds such as herons, and native aquatic life like charal and frogs. 

As you paddle, your host — an expert in environmental sustainability and Xochimilco’s culture — sets the scene with history and biodiversity. You’ll pause in a lagoon to experience a beautiful sunrise while enjoying a tea or coffee and amaranth cookies (sesame, flaxseed, sunflower seeds), then continue the route before transferring back to the city. 

First built millennia ago, these canals open a direct window onto Mexico City’s pre-colonial landscape. Most visitors meet Xochimilco on brightly painted trajineras with loudspeakers and drinks; you travel in a low cayuco, close to the water, with birdsong instead. At dawn there are few boats, stiller water, more reflections, and a clean soundscape.

Kalliopi and Thomas are a dynamic duo passionate about Athens, art, and urban exploration. Raised in opposite suburbs, fate brought them together, and now they call the historic district of Kerameikos home. Their journey into street art and creative expression started years ago and has flourished, especially since moving to downtown Athens.

They actively promote and support local artists, organize street art festivals, and have curated urban transformations by selecting artists and murals for key city spaces. Recently, they opened a creative hub to host events dedicated to art, fostering a vibrant community of creators.

In the heart of Mamoiada, behind a solid façade from the late 1800s, an ancestral granite cellar opens its doors for rare, intimate wine experiences. Once the home of Luca’s maternal grandparents, the house was carefully restored in the early 2000s, preserving its original Sardinian architecture.

Inside, thick stone walls embrace rooms filled with solid wood furniture, faded family portraits, and the scent of time. A small display of traditional winemaking tools tells another story—the press, the granite grinder, the wooden vat.

Here, you’ll taste two of Luca’s wines made from Cannonau and Granatza grapes, paired with local cheese and cured meats. As you sip, he shares family memories and village tales, tracing the bond between his roots and this land.

This experience takes you on a captivating photoshoot through Kuzguncuk, Istanbul’s quiet district on the Asian shore, guided by a professional photographer with deep local knowledge. Away from the tourist crowds, this session reveals a serene, authentic side of Istanbul—perfect for timeless portraits.

You’ll be photographed against candy-colored Ottoman houses, beneath cascading wisteria, and in quiet lanes where bougainvillea drapes over stone walls. The first stop is a tour and tasting at a traditional winery carefully selected by Julieta. This winery is a small-scale affair and remains in the hands of the original family. This is where the tour starts and ends. Burano is a charming and colorful island in the Venetian Lagoon, known for its brightly painted houses and long-standing tradition of lace-making. Located about 7 kilometers from Venice, a 25 minute water taxi (to be arranged via your Venice hotel) or a 40-minute vaporetto (water bus) ride can transport you to this picturesque locale from Venice. Historically, Burano was a fishing village, and this heritage is evident in its culture and cuisine, with seafood being a prominent feature in local dishes.

You can also stay overnight at Venissa or Casa Burano. It's amazing to wake up early on the island before the tourists get here and wander around.

Skoura Palm Grove

Shibuya Crossing, or Shibuya Scramble Crossing, is a popular scramble crossing in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan.[1] It is located in front of the Shibuya Station Hachikō exit and stops vehicles in all directions to allow pedestrians to inundate the entire intersection. The statue of Hachikō, between the station and the intersection, is a common meeting place and almost always crowded.

Three large TV screens mounted on nearby buildings overlook the crossing, as well as many advertising signs. The Starbucks store overlooking the crossing is also one of the busiest in the world. Its heavy traffic and inundation of advertising have led to it being compared to the Times Square intersection in New York City and Piccadilly Circus intersection in London.

This Shinto shrine has a very mystical quality, especially when it’s pitch dark, with no people around. Perfect for long 20-second exposures to capture the light and the shadows. Or “light painting” with a flashlight. 

That’s me brandishing a lightsaber and painting with it  Now imagine this as a Star Wars location for a fight scene. 

In between sets of Torii Gates, there are family shrines which are even more special, complete with miniature Torii, candlesticks and kitsune.

On a cool morning drive in Ngorongoro Crater, we meet a pride of eleven hungry lions —  lean and menacing. We stay with them for five hours through several hunting attempts .

One of the lionesses spots a herd of zebras. She masterfully rounds them up and sends them in the direction of her waiting pride. At the last minute though, the zebras, finding new energy or a brilliant leader, take a united front and flee. The zebras will live another day. 

Well, hello there! - say the lions to a group of wild buffaloes .. and quickly dissolve into the grass. The buffaloes can smell the lions. They start backing up and eventually escape. 

Next, the younger lions eye an ostrich In the distance. But it fluffs up its feathers with a disdainful air, and runs away.

Mobile food is awfully hard to get your paws on. The lions decide to lie in the grass and wait it out. Someone will come by. It’s just a matter of time.
