As the entire experience is conducted only in Japanese, your host Eric, using his own background as a Kyoto-based chef, will explain the details throughout your time here. Along the way, you’ll gain insight into the traditional Japanese approach to food, built on harmony, seasonality and visual presentation. 

This experience offers rare insight into everyday Kyoto cuisine. Basketry was one of the earliest crafts in Mesoamerica, predating the domestication of crops and handmade ceramics. Because this practice uses biodegradable materials, few historical remnants remain—so its history lives on through family traditions and storytelling. By learning about the skill, time, and dedication involved in creating these baskets, you'll help support local artisans through both financial investment and cultural preservation.

Your basket-making workshop will last roughly two hours. Afterward, you’ll continue the carrizo theme with a meal at a restaurant that serves Oaxacan tlayudas on handwoven carrizo plates.

While basketry declined with the introduction of plastic, it still holds an essential place in the rural economy. "If I know a song of Africa, of the giraffe and the African new moon lying on her back, does Africa know a song of me?", mused Karen Blixen in Out of Africa. I am too much of a nomad but if I ever owned a farm, as Ms. Blixen did, it would be in the Lamai Wedge - located in the triangular watershed between the Kenya border and the Mara river. Possibly the most beautiful place in East Africa. Besides being a refuge for the Great Migration after crossing the River Mara, it has great game year-round.

Until recently, no camps were allowed here, but now you can stay at the Singita Mara River Tented Camp and a few others. 

And wake up at dawn to catch the sun filtering through the clouds and mist. The Wildebeest seem a little dazed as they contemplate the scenery over the hills of Kenya while eating succulent grasses - and staying out of the way of the cheetah brothers out on a prowl, with whom we tagged along for an unsuccessful hunt. Life is tough.

I often drive the two hours to catch the sunrise in Virginia Beach. Rudee’s Inlet is a favorite spot because of the contrast of the rocks.

The Old Town of Faro is the historic heart of this coastal city in the Algarve region of Portugal. Encased within ancient Roman walls, this quaint district offers a stunning journey through Faro’s layered history, with remnants of Roman, Moorish, and medieval Portuguese influences.

Güzelyurt Village
