With formal certification from Türkiye's Ministry of Culture and Tourism and years of teaching experience, Şeyma has a profound understanding of the history, evolution, and intricacies of the traditional Turkish art of illumination. Having participated in many group and solo exhibitions and published work on Tezhip art, she brings both technical expertise and cultural depth to the workshop, ensuring participants leave with a rich understanding of this ancient art form. Portugal

Immerse yourself in the fragrant world of an aromatic and medicinal herbs farm nestled in the picturesque region of Alentejo, Portugal. This experience invites you to explore the sustainable practices of organic farming and gain insights into the use of Portuguese aromatic herbs. You'll witness the farm's commitment to biodiversity and regenerative agriculture, making it a haven not just for plants but for pollinators like bees. The farm is home to a century-old olive grove and more than 45 plant species, each with unique gastronomical and medicinal properties. 

Rute and João will teach you all about traditional harvesting and drying techniques, plucking herbs straight from the garden to smell, taste and make art with. After the farm tour, you’ll join a Cyanotype printmaking workshop (or similar activity in winter) allowing you to take home your own herbarium. Then sit down for a multi-course lunch based on traditional Alentejo recipes under a shady ash tree or in the cozy greenhouse.

Corn has been a core element of the Mexican diet for thousands of years. Archaeologists have found maize cobs dating back to 4300 BC. Traditionally, the ingredient represented sustenance, fertility, and ancestral wisdom.

In this food workshop, you'll discover why corn is a much more diverse plant than you might imagine. You will also learn, hands-on, using traditional tools and the Nixtamal process, how to transform this magical ingredient into a tortilla.

After making your own quesadilla and salsa, you'll take a brief walk through the neighborhood and enjoy a couple of taquería pit stops. When asked about his love for Lisbon, Tiago’s enthusiasm is immediate: “I love my city! I really love the historic center of Lisbon!” Though he didn’t always feel that way. Growing up on the city’s outskirts, it wasn’t until returning after time abroad that he saw it anew. “It was as a young and independent adult with an arts and architecture degree, and with the enthusiasm to explore — that I realized how beautiful, diverse, and interesting my city is.”
For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.
As tourism evolves, Tiago points toward Lisbon’s under-known strengths. “Gastronomy, street art, tiles, contemporary architecture… there’s so much more to discover!”

It’s a new day in Sossusvlei. And I am rising towards the sky, timed perfectly with the rising sun, in a wicker basket attached to a hot air balloon. It’s my first balloon ride!

The sand dunes of the Namib desert are taking their time turning orange in the glow of dawn. Our pilot tells us that in Namibia, the only time one can fly a balloon is the sunrise hour. She can’t steer the balloon but she can control the altitude, and depending on the wind channels at each altitude, choose her preferred “course”. 

It’s more peaceful than I imagined. The sound of quiet is unnerving, but no one in the gondola wants to break the peace. In fact, the only sound to be heard is the feverish clicking of cameras. I could get used to seeing the world from this perspective.

Trieste, Italy, is home to the Risiera di San Sabba, a former rice mill turned Nazi concentration camp during World War II. As the only Nazi extermination camp in Italy, it serves as a chilling yet essential reminder of one of history’s darkest periods. Today, the site operates as a museum and memorial, honoring the thousands of political prisoners, partisans, and Jewish victims who were imprisoned, tortured, and deported from this location. Walking through the stark, somber complex offers a powerful and deeply moving experience.


1. At the entrance, a vast, empty courtyard evokes a haunting sense of history, where prisoners once stood before being interrogated or deported to Auschwitz and other camps. The atmosphere is solemn and reflective.

We arrive by RIB boat from Longyearbyen, dressed in survival suits, across a choppy Arctic Sea, with puffins and seals for company.

Isfjord Radio on Cape Linné, is an abandoned strategic communications station, with a decidedly interesting past, now converted into a stylish expedition lodge. 

Nothing could have prepared me for the extreme sense of isolation and wilderness. 

Imagine sitting all alone at latitude 79 degrees north and watching polar bears prowling outside the kitchen window. Two days ago, that is exactly what the staff at Isfjord Radio did.  After all, Svalbard’s travel slogan reads: “3000 polar bears, 2500 humans”. 

Hiking into the middle of nowhere, or along the coast looking for 1500-kilo walruses, is done with licensed guides, a couple of mandatory rifles for protection and huskies for company. It is a beautiful, stark landscape, filled with mystery and a sense of the unknown. 

Which direction should we head? Anywhere you want to go, comes the reply.
