Philippe Mevel is a Paris-based antiques specialist and art dealer who leads private visits through the Saint-Ouen flea markets, antique boutiques, and art galleries. He trained in Switzerland and France before moving to the United States in 1999.

From 2000 to 2006 he worked with Gasiunasen Fine Arts in Palm Beach, collaborating with prominent collectors. Since 2007 he has worked independently as an art advisor and dealer, with acquisitions that have included works by Picasso and Chagall.

Philippe’s core expertise is seventeenth- and eighteenth-century French furniture, complemented by broad knowledge of modern and contemporary art and design. His clients range from corporate teams and museums to architects, interior designers, dealers, and first-time buyers.

Chile

This experience is a cultural commentary on Chilean textiles from past to present and an opportunity to purchase unique souvenirs under the guidance of a local entrepreneur with a globally successful loom weaving brand merging tradition and innovation. The itinerary spans four locations in downtown Santiago, each accessed by metro during this outing.

Upon meeting your host, Flor, at La Moneda Cultural Center you will view the current textile exposition installed at the gallery before continuing onwards to the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center. These centers serve as an introduction to traditional weaving styles still prevalent in modern Chilean and Andean cultures. Flor will then take you to her go-to yarn store, the ultra-funky Revesderecho, and explain about different fibers while sharing the historical development of store items for context. The experience concludes at the Los Dominicos Craft Village in Las Condes where Flor will facilitate conversations with artisans.

Flor has curated this experience as an opportunity to learn about Chilean textiles in a relaxed context. While visiting two cultural centers, a modern yarn store, and an artisan village, you will "unravel" the history and cultural significance of textile design and learn how techniques are woven into the fabric of modern-day Chile. Flor is unique in that she both looks to the past while embracing innovation in her work. 

The cultural centers are in themselves an exciting place to tap into modern Chilean culture. She deeply admires the landscapes and nature as well as the ancient fables she absorbed as a child while traveling every corner of Chile by caravan with her family.

Flor has authored several books packed with vibrant pattern inspiration and projects. Her nature motifs are translated into floral crochet designs published in a British magazine and she has penned a children's story which inspires creativity and entrepreneurship in the youngest of budding designers.

You’ll explore the origins of photography and learn about wet plate collodion—a 19th-century technique that uses glass or metal plates, chemical baths, and a large format camera. Pierre will demonstrate each step while coating, sensitizing, exposing, and developing images.

Watching your portrait come to life is a striking visual moment: deep contrasts, delicate textures, and a vintage feel that’s hard to find elsewhere. While your image slowly appears, Pierre shares family stories and his personal view of Bordeaux and photography. If the light conditions are good, you can choose to shoot outdoors and include a glimpse of the city in your portrait.

Wet plate collodion photography doesn’t aim to imitate the past—it uses an early technique to craft images that are singular, dense, and deeply present. Semana Santa transforms Seville for a week each spring (29 March to 5 April in 2026). From Palm Sunday through early morning of Easter Sunday, more than 60 religious brotherhoods cross the city in processions.

You watch the processions from street level as they cross different parts of the city. Each brotherhood leaves its church and walks toward the cathedral in a ritual journey that defines the tradition. You see the nazarenos in robes and pointed hoods. The pasos carry centuries-old sculptures of Christ or the Virgin surrounded by candles and flowers. Beneath the platforms, hidden costaleros move in synchronized steps so the pasos appear to glide through the streets.

An expert local guide leads you to vantage points along the route and explains what you are seeing. You encounter one or two — sometimes even three — processions in some of Seville’s most emblematic streets and squares. You hear the history of the brotherhoods, meaning of the rituals, and stories that surround them.

Semana Santa processions can last between four and fourteen hours and draw enormous crowds. Without guidance, visitors often wait in one place without understanding what they are seeing or how the procession works.

Your guide belongs to a local brotherhood and knows the rhythm of Holy Week from the inside. He explains the structure of the hermandad, the meaning of the rituals, and the role of the costaleros carrying the multi-ton pasos. He also knows how the city moves during the processions. Once a procession advances, crossing streets becomes difficult. Positioning matters. Your guide knows where to stand and when to move. At times you may weave through the crowd or cross the route as the procession passes, guided safely from one vantage point to another.

Rather than watching from a distance, you stand within the life of the city as devotion, music, ritual, and everyday Sevillian life converge in the streets. This experience allows you to understand Semana Santa from inside.

You leave San Sebastián by private transport and drive west toward the coast, where the Basque Country’s food culture begins in daily routines. In Zarautz, you walk through the local market as residents shop for fish landed that morning, seasonal vegetables, and cured meats that anchor home cooking. Your host explains how people here buy food day by day, and why seasonality matters.

From the coast, you head inland to the hills where txakoli vineyards cling to steep, terraced slopes. At a small, family-run winery, you see how this lightly sparkling white wine is made from native grapes shaped by Atlantic weather. The tasting is informal and direct, focused on method, land, and continuity.

The day ends at a traditional cider house. You stand at the barrel for the txotx ritual, catching cider as it’s poured, then sit down to a classic meal: cod omelet, grilled steak, and Idiazabal cheese with quince and walnuts. It’s a long lunch, taken the Basque way — unhurried and communal.

This experience follows the everyday food economy of the Basque Country. It is a cultural exploration expressed through the region’s most emblematic cuisine, wine, and cider.

Txakoli (pronounced cha-ko-lee) is a white wine that embodies the maritime and mountain character of the Basque Country and sits at the center of this experience. Made for centuries from indigenous grapes, it reflects the meeting of Atlantic weather and steep terrain. Traditionally served young and poured from a height to aerate it, txakoli evolved to accompany local food. The winery you visit is hand-picked for its artisanship and quality — a family-run estate, well away from mass tourism.

Cider, or sagardoa, carries an equally deep history. Present in Basque rural and maritime life since at least the 11th century, it anchors a social ritual built around shared tables and long meals. The txotx remains a living custom — binding food, drink, and hospitality into a single cultural expression.

In private transport from San Sebastián, you’ll head to the nearby coastal town of Zarautz and visit the Mercado de Zarautz, its lively local food market. I have traveled to Moab, Utah on more than one occasion and every time it has been an absolute blast! This small, more local town is home to some amazing things that you can’t find anywhere else. 

There is a place there that I travel to every time called Mill Creek Canyon. It is a short hike to a watering hole that supplies the river you will have to cross more than once. Once you reach the watering hole, you will find an amazing view and usually many friendly people depending on what time you go. 

Now, it can get pretty hot in Utah so don’t forget the water and the sunblock, as well as a swimming suit!

The main attraction there is the cliff jumping! You can climb up the small waterfall and there will be a small ledge where you can jump from into the freezing water below. Let me tell you, it’s an absolute blast that you will never forget! 

I highly recommend this location to all people, even if you’re just passing through

Someone described #Churchill as “the warmest coldest tundra town”. It is a friendly, curious town. It also claims to have 300 days of northern lights. 

Basically, if you happen to be in Churchill on a clear night, prepare to wake up, dress up in layers (quickly), and be enthralled. 

Last Sunday night, when most had turned back in after what looked like an “average” aurora display, we waited and were rewarded with lovely green ribbons and curtains.

Our plan: To walk through the magnificent Quiraing and climb to the base of the Needle, a 120 ft jagged pinnacle, for views of the Outer Hebrides.  

Weather forecast? Fair, says Harry, the winds will blow away the clouds and midges.

Highlights from the photo-hike: ☀️Awe-inspiring view of Loch Cleat (above). 💦 Scrambling over the steep cliffs on springy heather. 🐾 Checking out the structures that have been named — The Needle, The Prison, The Table — and naming those that haven’t. ⚡️Noting the exact moment when the weather turns on us. ❄️ Getting shrouded in mist and fog, and unwittingly playing hide-and-seek at the top of the ridge (this is, after all, where locals hid their sheep from raiding Vikings). 💨 Howling winds over 50 mph trying to gust us off the slopes. 💧Rain coming down in full force. ☁️ Feeling my spine tingle as clouds swirl around me in this unreal landscape.

Cinematic Drama

Portugal’s Rota Vicentina is a spectacular network of coastal and inland hiking trails along the rugged southwestern coastline of the Alentejo and Algarve regions. Stretching for over 750 km (466 miles), these well-marked trails pass through stunning cliffs, wild beaches, rolling sand dunes, and charming fishing villages, making it one of Europe’s most breathtaking long-distance walking routes. The Rota Vicentina is divided into two main paths: the Fishermen’s Trail, which hugs the dramatic coastline, and the Historical Way, which winds through cork forests, rural farmland, and traditional villages.


1. The Fishermen’s Trail, one of the most scenic routes in Europe, follows clifftop paths, offering stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and hidden coves.

2. The Historical Way takes hikers inland through rolling hills, cork oak forests, and remote villages, showcasing the authentic culture of the Alentejo.

3. Wild beaches and dramatic rock formations, including Praia da Amália, Praia do Malhão, and the famous Cabo Sardão, where storks nest on sea cliffs.

4. Charming fishing villages, such as Zambujeira do Mar, Vila Nova de Milfontes, and Odeceixe, offering cozy guesthouses and fresh seafood along the route.

5. A rich ecosystem, home to rare birds, wildflowers, and diverse marine life, making the route perfect for nature lovers and photographers.

Visitor Tip: The best time to hike is spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) for mild weather and fewer crowds. Pack sturdy hiking shoes, plenty of water, and sun protection, as some sections have little shade. For a shorter experience, try a one-day walk between villages along the Fishermen’s Trail.

How Not to be Templed Out.

Pick out the must-see’s in the mini-circuit (Bayon, Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm in that order), then pick two temples in the grand-circuit (Preah Khan and Pre-Rup are my favorites), and one that requires a car (Banteay Srei or Beng Melea). 

Add some climbing at dawn - at Phnom Krom and Phnom Bakheng - as the sunrises here will sustain you for a whole year of waking up late. 

Pace yourself over three to four days.

Temples and Temples

If you want to explore Spain on foot, you should definitely set out on one of the pilgrimage routes through the country. All routes lead to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, which is located in the northwest. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Camino de Santiago has been named a central point of cultural exchange – and a historical highlight that shows what medieval Spain looked like. We chose to follow the famous Camino Frances. The original 800km route takes 5 weeks, but we decided to get in a little later, we only had 11 days, and opted for the route starting in the Galician town of Sarria. Along the way, you'll meet many other tourist pilgrims, but you'll also be able to immerse yourself in the local culture and taste Spain's best delicacies (tapas, seafood, and Spanish Serrano ham). Be prepared for a lot of walking – and take the best walking boots you have. We’ve enjoyed every minute, but some people we met had the wrong equipment, complaining about blisters.

The “French” pilgrimage route

Catalonia, Spain, is home to the iconic Montserrat Monastery, a spiritual and cultural landmark nestled among the jagged peaks of the Montserrat mountain range. 1. Visit the Basilica of Montserrat to see the Black Madonna, a Romanesque statue believed to have miraculous powers and a symbol of Catalan identity.

2. Listen to a performance by the Escolania de Montserrat, one of the oldest boys' choirs in Europe, renowned for their moving sacred music.

3. Take the Sant Joan funicular for panoramic views and access to hiking trails that offer breathtaking vistas of the Catalonian landscape.

4. Explore the Montserrat Museum, which houses works by famous artists such as El Greco, Picasso, and Dalí, alongside religious artifacts and archaeological finds.

5. Hike the Cami de Sant Miquel or Cami de les Ermites trails, which wind through scenic landscapes and pass ancient hermitages hidden among the rocks.

Visitor Tip: Visit early in the morning to avoid crowds and enjoy peaceful views. The rack railway (Cremallera de Montserrat) and cable car offer scenic routes up the mountain, providing unforgettable views of the rugged peaks.

The Chora Church, now the Kariye Mosque, is a breathtaking testament to Byzantine artistry and architecture, tucked away in the quiet Edirnekapı neighborhood of Istanbul. Porto is a city with a unique mystique! its old buildings, colorful houses, the particularity of its wines and the joy of its people, make it a must-see.
The most exciting thing about not planning my stay was getting lost to find myself in small places rich in gastronomy, flavors that I never experienced before, local markets with the best ambient and desserts that made every minute in this city worthwhile.
