This is an exhilarating and demanding ascent to the Toubkal Refuge, starting from the village of Imlil. This demanding trek spans a total climb of 2500 meters (8,202 feet) to 3207 meters (10,522 feet) at the refuge, suitable for those with good fitness levels but does not require technical climbing skills. 

The trek passes the spiritual landmark of Sidi Chamarouch, a Muslim pilgrimage spot located in a very scenic place, before the steep climb to the refuge, set just below the summit of Mount Toubkal. Here, trekkers can enjoy a well-earned picnic lunch while taking in panoramic views of the surrounding High Atlas Mountains.

Mexico

In a dawn wildlife excursion, you'll canoe the magical canals in Xochimilco with a biodiversity expert. You set out before sunrise with private transport from your hotel. Nestled on the northeastern slopes of Athens’ Acropolis, Anafiotika is a charming and historic neighborhood that feels like a Cycladic island village transported to the heart of the Greek capital. Built in the mid-19th century by stonemasons from the island of Anafi, who came to Athens to help construct King Otto’s palace, this neighborhood is a tranquil oasis of whitewashed houses, vibrant bougainvillea, and narrow, winding streets. Its unique blend of Cycladic architecture and urban history offers visitors a serene escape from the city’s bustling energy. 
1. The neighborhood’s homes feature signature white walls, flat roofs, and brightly painted shutters, reminiscent of the Greek islands. Despite being in the shadow of the Acropolis, Anafiotika retains its island-inspired charm. 
2. From many spots in Anafiotika, visitors are rewarded with sweeping vistas of Athens, stretching to the Aegean Sea. Sunset here is particularly magical. 
3. The maze-like alleys are perfect for leisurely exploration, with each turn revealing hidden courtyards, colorful flowers, and local charm. 
4. The neighborhood is almost car-free, creating a peaceful retreat where you can enjoy the gentle hum of daily life and occasional melodies of traditional Greek music. 
5. Anafiotika’s location makes it an ideal starting point or detour for visitors heading to the iconic Acropolis. 
Visitor Tip: Wear comfortable shoes, as the cobblestone paths can be uneven. Bring a camera to capture the postcard-perfect beauty!

Évora Historic Center

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is a modern architectural marvel and cultural hub in Athens, seamlessly blending innovation, sustainability, and the arts. Stavros Niarchos Foundation

In Marrakech, explore the labyrinth of the medina, lined with market stalls and craftspeople, and full of secret places and contradictions. 

Anonymous, windowless, fortress-like walls enclose luxurious riads built around tiled courtyards, complete with fountains and gardens.

Happily, my wonderful guide Khadija of Morocco Private Experience, encourages my curiosity. She leads the way across the medieval labyrinth of chaotic alleyways - to the souks where centuries-old skills continue to flourish. 

I am intrigued about how all the craftspeople are clustered together by trade. We watch a metal craftsman shape a pair of gnawa cymbals. A leatherworker allows me inside his workshop for a better view. There is an entire street of ornate lantern sellers - the bronze-latticed lanterns competing with the palm-leafed roofs of the souks in throwing light-and-shadow patterns all around.

Heart and Souk

Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia, located in the heart of Trieste, stands as a grand testimony to Europe's multifaceted history. Overlooking the Adriatic Sea, this largest seafront square in Europe is framed by grand palazzi, each narrating stories of varied rulers - from Romans to Austrians, and finally, Italians. Top reasons to visit:
1 - This central square in Trieste faces the Gulf of Trieste and is surrounded by remarkable buildings like the Government Building and the City Hall​​. The square is defined by its impressive Viennese-style architecture. The Palazzo del Governo, adorned with Murano glass mosaics, and the Palazzo del Municipio, with its striking clock tower, create a panorama of historical elegance. These buildings reflect the artistic and political influences that have shaped Trieste over the centuries. 
2 - Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia has been the backdrop for pivotal historical events, from the landing of Franz Ferdinand's remains in 1914 to Mussolini's rally in 1938. Each of these moments has contributed to the square's rich and complex history, making it a symbol of Trieste's past.
3 - The Piazza serves as a cultural crossroads, hosting high-profile concerts and events, including a memorable performance by Iron Maiden. It's a place where history, entertainment, and public life intertwine, offering a unique experience to visitors.
4 - The square is home to the iconic Caffè degli Specchi, a historic café since 1839. It has been a meeting spot for intellectuals and artists, offering a chance to indulge in Italian coffee culture while soaking in the square's vibrant atmosphere.
5 - Beyond the square, Trieste beckons with landmarks like the Castello di San Giusto and the Cathedral of San Guisto, offering breathtaking views and a deeper dive into the city's history.
The Piazza is easily accessible from Trieste Centrale Station, either by a short bus ride, taxi, or a pleasant stroll.

Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia

Valencia, Spain, is home to the Torres de Serranos, one of the best-preserved medieval gateways in Spain and a symbol of the city’s rich history. Built in 1392, these imposing Gothic towers were once part of Valencia’s ancient city walls and served as both a defensive structure and a ceremonial entrance for visiting royalty. Today, they offer visitors panoramic views of the city, making them a must-visit for history lovers and photographers alike.

1. The grand twin towers, standing 30 meters (98 feet) tall, showcase impressive Gothic military architecture and remain one of Valencia’s most iconic landmarks.

2. A steep but rewarding climb to the top provides breathtaking views of Valencia, including the historic center, the Turia Gardens, and the distant Mediterranean Sea.

Vlychada Beach on Santorini is a unique and serene destination, known for its dramatic lunar-like landscape and tranquil atmosphere. Located on the southern coast of the island, this beach is framed by towering white volcanic cliffs carved by the wind and sea, creating an otherworldly backdrop. Its soft gray sand and clear waters make it an ideal spot for relaxation, far from the bustling crowds of Santorini’s more famous beaches.
