Chile

This 4-hour private mosaic-making experience takes place in the studio of international muralist, Shannon McEvoy. Under Shannon's guidance, you will design and fabricate a personal mosaic artwork to take home as a memento of your time in Chile. You may choose to create an abstract exploration of shape and color or work from a simple design inspired by common themes in Shannon's art including Chilean flora and fauna. Improvisation is encouraged.

All necessary materials and equipment are provided and Shannon will work with you to help you bring your vision to fruition. After the activity concludes, Shannon will grout your mosaic tile and help you to arrange the pick-up from her studio 48+ hours later.

During the workshop, you'll hear about the significance of mosaics in Chile – a country famed for its street art and murals. You will also hear about Shannon's role as a mosaic muralist working in Santiago, Puente Alto (the Mosaic Capital of the Southern Hemisphere), and beyond.

This experience invites you into the private studio of an artist in Santiago to create your own Chile-inspired mosaic artwork. This may be of an abstract style or inspired by Chilean flora and fauna. You may choose to collaborate with your travel partner and create one mosaic as a team or create individual masterpieces.

Over the course of the workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of mosaic techniques as Shannon helps you assemble your artwork. As an artistic director, Shannon collaborates with Chilean muralists and champions the community aspect of creation and that art is for everyone. During this activity, you'll have the opportunity to quiz Shannon about life as a bilingual expat artist in Chile, her current projects, and how you can bring more creativity into your life. 

This bilingual mosaic masterclass is the perfect opportunity to practice your Spanish and pick up some essential "Chilenismos" (Chilean slang) for your onward travels.

All materials are included. Mosaic sizes are ~100 square cm per person (a maximum of 30 cm in any direction). As the mosaic needs grouting after the session, participants will need to collect the completed artwork 48 hours after the experience. This experience takes place in Shannon's studio in Providencia, Santiago de Chile. The exact address to is provided after booking. Shannon is a multimedia artist who loves exploring different languages and cultures, meeting new people, and listening to their stories. Originally from Minnesota, she studied abroad in Viña del Mar in 2010. The country and its people left a lasting impression on her, and she quickly returned after graduation. The street art of Valparaíso influenced her so profoundly that she incorporated Chilean muralism into her undergraduate Honors Thesis and pursued a career as a muralist.

Shannon has lived in Chile for over 10 years, where she teaches English and creates murals—but her talents don’t stop there. She also paints, sketches, makes ceramics and jewelry, designs her own clothes, and experiments with photography.

Shannon loves sharing her passions for art and language. To her, both are about expressing oneself and building meaningful connections. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she also speaks basic Portuguese.

This 10-day Morocco journey begins and ends in Marrakesh, unfolding through coastal Essaouira and the High Atlas Mountains in between. Spend the afternoon in Gueliz, Marrakesh’s modern district, to visit the Yves Saint Laurent Museum and Jardin Majorelle, spaces that blend color, fashion, and legacy.

DAY 3 – MARRAKESH TO ESSAOUIRA | Begin the morning with A Thousand and One Crafts, a guided walk through the artisan medina of Marrakesh. After lunch, travel west through argan country toward the coast. Essaouira is directly west of Marrakesh, a 2.5 to 3 hour drive, a straight shot to the Atlantic. It offers a gentle and relaxed pause after the intensity of Marrakesh. Arrive before sunset and take in the sea breeze.

DAYS 4-5 – ESSAOUIRA | Capture the spirit of Essaouira with Framed Essaouira, a full-day photography tour that reveals the city’s light, rhythm, and intimate angles. “In my youth,” he recalls, “many people came here, to the Algarve, and my family—like many others—had small farms. I spent a lot of time working on these farms growing carob, figs, almonds, and olives.” These daily rituals shaped his relationship to the land. “Everybody knows the Algarve for its oranges,” he adds, 
remembering his family’s orchard. “I have good memories of my mother and my sister making lots of cakes—almond cakes, and sometimes orange cakes too.”

Growing up on the city’s outskirts, it wasn’t until returning after time abroad that he saw it anew. “It was as a young and independent adult with an arts and architecture degree, and with the enthusiasm to explore — that I realized how beautiful, diverse, and interesting my city is.”
For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.
As tourism evolves, Tiago points toward Lisbon’s under-known strengths. “Gastronomy, street art, tiles, contemporary architecture… there’s so much more to discover!”

Turia Gardens

Yves Saint Laurent gifted Jardin Majorelle to Marrakech, the city that adopted him and his partner in the 60s. They bought an electric-blue villa and its garden, preserved the vision of its original owner (landscape painter Jacques Majorelle), and opened it to the public. 

What makes this feel like a psychedelic mirage in the desert?

Hot pink bougainvillea bursting from terracotta planters. Architectural cacti in lemon-yellow planters. Bamboos growing against cobalt-blue walls. Colorful birds flitting through palm trees. Saint Laurent’s gorgeous collection of Moroccan art, that I totally covet. 

It also has a museum that features jewelry in a setting that our guide Khadija keeps referring to as “a dream”. A dark room with a star-spangled ceiling and low voltage spotlights shining on stunning jewelry sets.

Psychedelic Mirage

The climb also offers a closer view of The Last Judgement frescoes and a unique perspective of the cathedral's architectural details. Another climbable structure, Giotto's Bell Tower, offers panoramic views of Florence. 
3 - The Baptistery of San Giovanni: Older than the cathedral itself, the Baptistery is renowned for its three sets of bronze doors, including the Gates of Paradise by Lorenzo Ghiberti. Inside, the golden mosaic ceiling captivates visitors, while the tomb of Antipope John XXIII adds historical intrigue.
4 - Santa Reparata: Beneath the cathedral lies Santa Reparata, the original church on this site. Excavations have revealed Roman houses and the former cathedral's remains, offering a journey through layers of history.

The area around Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage city with Roman, medieval, and contemporary layers of history, is particularly rich in these prehistoric sites. Exploring the ancient megaliths of Alentejo and the medieval walled city of Évora allows visitors to travel through time—from Neolithic rituals to Roman conquests, Gothic architecture, and beyond.

1. Visit the Cromeleque dos Almendres, one of Europe’s oldest and largest stone circles, dating back to 4000 BC. Alentejo Ancient Megaliths

Fez, Morocco, is home to the Bou Inania Madrasa, one of the most stunning examples of Marinid-era Islamic architecture.
