You’ll start in the Downtown Historic Center, where you'll meet your host before walking directly to La Merced market. There, you’ll wind through the market’s lively banquetón, or prepared food area, tasting different tacos, quesadillas, aguas frescas, and tamales.

After that, you’ll stroll through the gigantic fruits and vegetables building and learn about—and taste—prehispanic delicacies such as grasshoppers and agave worms. As the market can sometimes be a little overwhelming, your host will make sure you stop to rest. You’ll finish up with a refreshing drink and a snack in a beautiful restaurant—a hidden gem that most visitors won't know about, hand-picked by your host.

An Adventure in La Merced

This experience is designed for 1–4 people. Due to the crowded and fast-paced nature of La Merced, larger groups are not recommended to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit. All food and soft drinks are included, and there will be plenty—you won’t leave hungry. You’ll also get to sample traditional Mexican sweets, handpicked by your host. All food and drink costs, as well as tips for vendors, are fully covered by your host. 

Wear comfortable walking shoes (trainers or boots) and come hungry. In warmer months, we recommend bringing an extra bottle of water to stay hydrated. From June through October, an umbrella is also advised. While your host will ensure your comfort and safety throughout, please avoid bringing valuables, including cameras, and keep your phone and wallet secured in a zippered bag.

On Day 2, you’ll reach the peak and take in panoramic views across the Marrakech plains and on clear days, toward the Sahara. After descending, you'll stay in the Berber village of Aremd, offering a cultural close to the day’s exertion. On Day 3, enjoy a gentle return to Imlil through familiar trails—completing a route that balances natural beauty, physical challenge and cultural depth.

Imlil gives you a quiet introduction to Berber life in the mountains. The village offers a last chance to pick up essentials, but also a first chance to experience the rhythm of the region—through its homes, people, and landscape.

On your final morning, you’ll likely rise early—if you do, step outside to see Mount Toubkal lit by sunrise, a quiet reminder of where you’ve just been. After a warm, local breakfast, you’ll make the gentle descent back to Imlil, retracing familiar trails through the valley. Once in Imlil, you can pause to rest or meet your driver for the return to Marrakesh (organize the return trip with your Marrakesh home, it's not included in this experience). 

This closing stretch offers a soft, thoughtful end to your journey. The morning light, a simple and tasty Berber breakfast, and the familiar rhythm of the trail give you time to reflect. If you’re heading back to Marrakesh, please organize with your hotel to pick you up in Imlil. It’s a smooth return—both physically and mentally—from the mountains to the city.

Return to Imlil 

Summit day begins before sunrise with a steady, demanding ascent from the refuge to the top of Mount Toubkal, which rises to 4,167 meters—the highest point in North Africa. The trail is rocky and steep, but manageable with good fitness. At the summit, you’ll stand above the High Atlas, with sweeping views over the Marrakech plains and, on clear mornings, the edge of the Sahara.

What sets this summit apart isn’t just the altitude—it’s how you get there. The pace is measured, your body is acclimatized, and you’re supported by a guide who knows these mountains intimately. The climb is strenuous but achievable for those with good fitness, and the moment at the top—raw, quiet, and panoramic—is earned, not rushed. It’s a personal peak, not just a physical one.

Summiting Mount Toubkal

After the summit climb in the early morning, you’ll make a gradual descent down to the village of Aremd. You’ll arrive by the afternoon—early enough to rest, recover, and take in the views of the mountain you just climbed. You’ll stay the night in a simple and rustic but comfortable Berber guesthouse, with a private room/double/family room with a member of your party (based on your preference), each with its own ensuite bathroom. These are simple and modest, comfortable and safe lodgings. 

This final night gives you space to absorb the full experience. From the guesthouse terrace, you’ll see Toubkal from below—quiet and distant now. You’ll have a chance to walk through the village, meet local residents, and maybe visit the village hammam. Dinner is a warm, home-cooked meal—flavorful, generous, and made from local ingredients. The pace is slower, the conversation flows, and your connection to this landscape deepens in a quieter, more personal way.

Descent & Berber Village Stay

After a full day of ascent, you’ll reach the Toubkal Refuge—your base at 3,200 meters before summit day. You’ll break for a picnic lunch en route or stop for a warm meal in a Berber home, then continue to the refuge. Here, you’ll settle into a private/double room, depending on the group's needs (please share this with Ahmed after booking), and enjoy a proper dinner to refuel and acclimatize for the climb ahead.

Most trekkers sleep in dorm-style bunk rooms with shared bathrooms at the Toubkal Refuge, often alongside 10–20 others—conditions that don’t support privacy, comfort, or restful sleep. In contrast, this experience includes a private / double room shared only within your group, based on your preference, each with an ensuite bathroom. It’s a quieter, more restorative way to spend the night at altitude. Keep in mind, however, that these are simple and modest rooms. In rare situations when all private rooms are booked out, Ahmed will arrange private/double tents for your party -- these are comfortable, safe and provide a peaceful night's sleep (in this case, the bathrooms at the refuge will be used.)

This experience is designed for 2 to 6 participants to ensure a personal and well-supported trek. It includes a licensed, experienced mountain guide, mule team to carry luggage during the ascent, and all meals as outlined in the itinerary. Accommodation is provided for two nights: one at the Toubkal Refuge in a private/shared room (or equal value private/double tent) and one in a traditional Berber village in a private/shared room. 

Dress for mountain conditions: sturdy boots, waterproof jacket, warm layers, gloves, sun hat/cream, fleece/anorak for winter. Refillable water bottle and day pack for essentials. Toilet Paper.

If you need a trekking pole, let Ahmed know in advance. Also inform him of any medical conditions or physical limitations.

Be prepared for altitude, and respect Berber customs in the villages you pass. 

Travelers should arrange their own travel insurance for peace of mind in case of illness or accident.

We will meet at a pre-determined point in the Imlil area (The meeting point in Imlil will be confirmed by Ahmed via Chat after the booking). Pickups will be included only from nearby Imlil hotels. The excursion begins in Imlil, about 1.5 hours by car from Marrakesh. If you’re staying in Marrakesh, Ourika, or similar, please arrange round-trip transportation with your hotel.

While the group won’t enter the museum, it serves as a fitting place to begin the tour. Housed in the 16th-century Convent of Madre de Deus, the Museu Nacional do Azulejo offers a striking example of how religious architecture has been adapted into a public cultural space.

Hosted by a professional photographer from Buenos Aires, this tango photography experience takes place in the vibrant neighborhood of La Boca. Playing out on the pedestrianized street of Caminito, you will meet two professional and award winning tango dancers before capturing incredible images of them performing to the backdrop of the colorful, mismatched tenement houses La Boca is famed for. Sporting full costume and make-up, the dancers are happy to answer any questions you have about this art form. 

The experience starts over a cup of coffee in a cafe where Bernardo will discuss the best camera settings for capturing tango on the street. He will address compositional tips, focusing techniques, and working with moving subjects. This is an opportunity to ask any questions and get to grips with the functionality of your camera or device (smartphones are welcome). As the activity progresses, he will continue to impart knowledge and mentor you throughout.

If you’re the kind of traveler who feels shy about photographing people on the street, then this experience takes care of that. Hosted by a professional Porteño photographer whose work appears in publications all over the world, you will partake in a private photography session with two tango dancers in La Boca. This dancing duo will be dressed in full costume and make-up and you will have the opportunity to chat before and during the experience—providing a rare access moment to learn about this art form from those who practice it and take a closer look at the fashion.The setting itself couldn't be more appropriate. After all, La Boca is one of the barrios of Buenos Aires where tango found its feet in the 19th century. 

Bernardo will art direct the shoot, indicating where and how the dancers should pose while at the same time assisting you with your camera settings and composition. All you need to worry about is taking compelling photos and feeling the rhythm!

This itinerary reflects what Manila calls the “true essence of Catalonia” — a place of cultural pride, natural beauty, and distinct local identity. Manila first arrived in Barcelona more than two decades ago, while finishing her studies in Rome. She needed an internship for her thesis and chose Barcelona without expecting how quickly she’d feel at home.“Barcelona, 22 years ago, was a different place,” she says. “It was less cosmopolitan, more local. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. Whether through demonstrations or cultural festivals, they come together. They’re efficient and organized, but also keep that relaxed Mediterranean vibe. It’s a unique combination.”

3. The palace basilica is a marvel of Baroque architecture, with twin bell towers, each housing a carillon of 92 bells, one of the largest of its kind. Inside, the basilica’s Italian marble and ornate altar are breathtaking, and its six historic organs are still used for concerts today.

4. In the palace gardens, visitors can stroll through manicured hedges, fountains, and shaded pathways, providing a peaceful escape amid the lush greenery, much as it was used by the royal family centuries ago.

Explore Mafra Palace

Santa Maria del Mar, known as the "Cathedral of La Ribera" in Barcelona, is a sterling example of pure Catalan Gothic architecture, distinguished by its harmonious proportions and serene ambiance. Completed rapidly for a medieval church, between 1329 and 1384, it maintains a stylistic purity rare for the era due to its construction within just 55 years. The church's interior, marked by its vast, open spaces and the widest column spacing of any Gothic church in Europe, creates an impression of sublime width, height, and airiness​​​​. It’s our favorite church in Barcelona, here’s why:
1: The church's interior is notably sparse in imagery, a result of damage from a fire in 1936 during anticlerical disturbances. Despite this loss, including the destruction of the Baroque retable by Deodat Casanoves and Salvador Gurri, some stained-glass windows from various periods have survived, contributing to the church's luminous atmosphere​​.
2: The basilica's design boasts very tall slender columns that are 13 meters apart, supporting three naves of equal height. This unique structural approach contributes to the church's feeling of spaciousness, with its maximum height matching its total width at 100 medieval feet​​​​.
3: Rooftop Terrace Tour: Available from May to October, the tour offers insights into the church's construction, history, and the surrounding La Ribera neighborhood. 
4: Santa Maria del Mar is a beacon of Barcelona's rich maritime and mercantile history. Its pure Catalan Gothic style, and the communal effort symbolized by the 'bastaixos' carved on its doors, speak to a deep connection between the city's people and this venerable basilica.

Stretching along the banks of the Guadalquivir, this popular promenade links some of Seville’s most famous attractions, offering a blend of history, culture, and leisure activities. The river itself played a key role in Seville’s development, once serving as the main conduit for trade with the New World. Today, the walk is a favorite for both locals and tourists looking for relaxation and a touch of Seville’s past.

Highlights of the Guadalquivir River Walk:

1. Torre del Oro: Begin your walk near this iconic 13th-century tower. Its golden glow and rich history make it a perfect starting point. From here, enjoy views of the river and the surrounding monuments.
