Bring your camera equipment, including lenses suitable for wildlife photography (telephoto recommended), spare batteries, and memory cards. In situations where Remix is traveling to paint a mural, his colleague Tadeo will lead the experience.

The Square hosts an impressive half destroyed 14th century Gothic Church and the  Elevator of Santa Justa, an early 20th-century structure resembling Eiffel's work. Closeby, we will have a lunch at Trindade, a freemason inspired tiled restaurant, once a brewery and before, a convent.

Revolutionary ideals aren’t always what they seem. The 1789 French Revolution is marked by two competing narratives: the Enlightenment humanism that led to “liberty, equality, fraternity,” and the populist rhetoric that culminated in the Reign of Terror.

Whether referring to 1789, the 1871 Paris Commune, or the May 1968 student revolutions, this experience is a walk through Paris’ rich history of revolutionary ideas that continue to shape debates about democracy today.

Led by a novelist and expert in modern European history, this journey unfolds as a dialogue about the ideas, stories, and events that sparked France’s major revolutionary moments, with particular focus on 1789, 1871, and May 1968.

The walk concludes in the Latin Quarter, where the conversation continues over a drink, allowing time to reflect on history, philosophy, and the revolutionary ideas that still unsettle authoritarian regimes today.

This experience is shaped by Samuél Lopez-Barrantes’s way of reading history as a living, contested process rather than a closed chapter. A novelist and publisher with an MA in social theory and an MFA focused on the invention of historical narrative, he approaches the French Revolution through the ideas that emerged from it and the legacies of figures such as Rousseau, Voltaire, Louise Michel, and Guy Debord.

With a focus on the modern intellectual history of Paris and the narratives that shape how the Revolution is remembered, this experience challenges common understandings of the “French Revolution” in a nation that has experienced multiple revolutions since 1789.

Samuél's approach invites participants to consider how the storming of the Bastille and the Declaration of the Rights of Man also led to the Terror and Napoleon Bonaparte’s colonial regime, and how three 19th-century revolutions helped inspire Situationism and May 1968.

This itinerary reflects what Manila calls the “true essence of Catalonia” — a place of cultural pride, natural beauty, and distinct local identity. Manila first arrived in Barcelona more than two decades ago, while finishing her studies in Rome. She needed an internship for her thesis and chose Barcelona without expecting how quickly she’d feel at home.“Barcelona, 22 years ago, was a different place,” she says. “It was less cosmopolitan, more local. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. Whether through demonstrations or cultural festivals, they come together. They’re efficient and organized, but also keep that relaxed Mediterranean vibe. It’s a unique combination.”

The last nomadic, herding tribe in southern Africa, they still maintain their dress and traditions. Red ochre paste for sun protection. Smoke from herbs for cleansing and perfume. Intricate hairstyles. Lots of leather jewelry. A beauty routine that takes three hours every single day to complete.

Castel Sant'Angelo

Antelope Canyon may be the most famous of Utah’s slot canyons,  but if you want to avoid the large crowds, go to Buckskin Gulch - harder to reach but possibly, more enjoyable.

Wire Pass, a gorge carved through the Cockscomb by Coyote Wash, is the most popular entry route into Buckskin Gulch. It takes 1.7 miles to get to the slot canyon from the trailhead. Wire Pass is short, less than half a mile, but its slot canyon is even more confined than Buckskin, and makes for spectacular photos.

Buckskin Gulch twists its way for another 13 surreal miles, but we turn back after a couple of miles to head back to the trailhead. We’ve stopped every few feet to capture various angles of the rock and light - and literally run out of time. You could certainly do a wonderful all-day hike here.

Through the Wire

Chile’s El Tatio Geysers form the largest geyser field in the Southern Hemisphere and the third-largest in the world, located at an altitude of 4,320 meters (14,170 feet) in the Atacama Desert. Best visited at dawn, this geothermal wonder offers a breathtaking display of boiling water eruptions, steaming fumaroles, and mineral-rich hot springs, set against the backdrop of the towering Andes Mountains. The combination of extreme altitude, icy morning temperatures, and surreal landscapes makes for an unforgettable experience.


1. Dramatic steam columns, rising up to 10 meters (33 feet) in the early morning cold, create a mystical and otherworldly landscape.

Visitor Tip: Tours leave before dawn (4:00–5:00 AM) from San Pedro de Atacama—dress in warm layers, as temperatures can drop to -10°C (14°F) before sunrise. Drink plenty of water and avoid excessive activity upon arrival to prevent altitude sickness.

Museo dell'Opificio delle Pietre Dure, translating to "Workshop of semi-precious stones", represents much more than its name suggests. Founded in 1588 by Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici, this museum showcases exquisite objects made from stone and is a leading center for marble inlay and art restoration. Top 3 reasons to visit:
1 - The Opificio delle Pietre Dure's origin lies in the establishment of a court-funded laboratory by Ferdinando I de' Medici. Initially focused on semi-precious mosaic work and inlays, the art form was notably used in the decoration of the Cappella dei Principi in the Basilica di San Lorenzo, the Medici family's final resting place. Jamaica

Jake’s is a Jamaican treasure. In fact, where it’s located is actually called Treasure Beach. 

Getting there from Montego Bay Airport takes a full two and a half hours on rough country roads - more than three if you stop at the jerk chicken place as we did. We stayed in a colorful bohemian cottage on the sea and tasted our first Ackee and Codfish - Jamaica’s breakfast dish - here. 

The evenings are for crooning to live music - reggae or calypso — before falling asleep to the sound of the waves breaking on the rocks literally at your feet.

Music in the Air
