Milagro Campos Llontop, Mila, is a Lima-based cultural guide, artist, and educator with over ten years of experience in heritage interpretation and socially responsible tourism. She studied Drawing and Painting at the National School of Fine Arts of Lima and holds a specialization in Sustainable Tourism.

She has worked at several museums and archaeological sites across Lima as a local guide and educational program designer and is one of the few official tour guides in the city specializing in Indigenous Folk Art. In 2022, Mila founded an Indigenous art experience project in collaboration with master women artisans from the Shipibo-Konibo Amazonian community based in Lima. Working directly with the president of the community, the project supports cultural revitalization and generates direct economic income for more than 200 master women artisans.

This nighttime photography experience invites you to explore Rome as the city shifts from the blue hour into full evening light. You begin near the Colosseum, capturing its form from elevated viewpoints where Roman pines and shrubs frame the monument in unexpected ways. Alqueva Dark Sky Reserve

Antalya, Turkey, is home to the magnificent Hadrian’s Gate, a 2nd-century Roman triumphal arch that serves as the grand entrance to the city’s historic Kaleiçi (Old Town). Built in 130 AD to honor Emperor Hadrian’s visit, this three-arched marble gateway is one of the best-preserved Roman structures in Turkey. With its intricate carvings, towering Corinthian columns, and ancient road beneath, Hadrian’s Gate is a must-see for history lovers and photographers alike.


1. The ornate marble façade, adorned with intricate floral and geometric carvings, showcases Roman craftsmanship at its finest.

2. The three grand archways, framed by towering Corinthian columns, create a dramatic entry into Antalya’s charming Old Town.

Hadrian’s Gate

Argentina

Buenos Aires, Argentina, is home to the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (MNBA), one of the most important fine art museums in Latin America. Located in the elegant Recoleta district, the museum houses an impressive collection of European masterpieces, Argentine art, and pre-Columbian artifacts, offering visitors a journey through centuries of artistic expression. With free admission, MNBA is a must-visit for art lovers and culture enthusiasts.


1. European Masterpieces – Works by Rembrandt, Rubens, Goya, Monet, Van Gogh, and Degas make up part of the museum’s world-class collection.

Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes

On a sunrise photo-walk, we are at Piazza San Marco. At 5AM, it’s empty, other than for a few pigeons, and a photo enthusiast like ourselves. And we run across - with tripods - to get to the Canal looking out towards San Giorgio Maggiore Island.

Our objective? To watch and photograph gondolas swaying in the canals of Venice. It’s perfect for long exposure shots. The gondolas and docks are lit up by street lights and the sky has the perfect blend of dark and light.

We then rush over to the vaporetto stand near Europa & Regina Hotel overlooking Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, for another Gondola scene (pictured) while the light is still good.

So, how many gondolas can you get into one frame?

We head out down the Grand Canal to the Rialto Fish Market. Some sellers are packing up after a good morning, but we’re able to get some great shots of everyday life. 

We walk back over Rialto bridge (great for photos of activity on the Canal) back to the hotel for breakfast.

Norway

All my life, I called it |trom-sow|, but the locals insist on |troom-sa|. 

The drive through Andøya and Senja was so spectacular that we wanted to abandon our itinerary and stay on the islands overnight vs. driving into Tromsø. And then I would have missed a dramatic sunset/dawn. Everything - sky, sea, windows on buildings, Arctic Church, mountain tops - blazed fiery red for an hour before turning into several shades of blue, with bright pink thrown in for effect. It stayed like that all night long. 

The locals can’t seem to stop partying through Friday night all along Storgata, so the people-watching is riveting. We’ve got to sleep at some point, we kept telling each other.

Midnattsol

Mexico

The Mayan culture is one of the most important indigenous cultures in Southern Mexico. Artifacts from bygone times stretch far across the jungles of Quintana Roos and Chiapas. 

If you want to learn more about how indigenous peoples lived before colonization, don't miss the ruins of Palenque. Arguably the largest Mayan ruins on the continent, they're tucked away, deeply hidden in the Mexican jungle. The highlights of the actual ruins are the numerous temples, a palace and aqueducts, and of course, a guided tour where you can learn all about Mexico's history. If you venture out into the jungle, you'll encounter rare wildlife like monkeys, colorful birds, and giant snakes.

Take sunscreen, plenty of water, and some snacks, as the tour takes at least half a day.

The Accademia Gallery in Florence, renowned for housing Michelangelo's David, is a treasure trove of art, history, and culture. As the second most visited museum in Florence, it offers a collection that includes a $16 million dollar violin and significant works of the Renaissance and beyond​​. Go on a journey of discovery through various art periods, techniques, and cultural histories. Here are our top recommendations:

1 -  As the focal point of the Accademia, Michelangelo’s David is a representation of strength, beauty, and human achievement. Created from a single block of marble, this masterpiece symbolizes the Renaissance ideals of humanism and is renowned for its anatomical precision and the portrayal of David before his battle with Goliath.

2 - The Hall of Prisoners features unfinished works by Michelangelo, known as "Prisoners" or "Slaves". These sculptures were intended for the tomb of Pope Julius II but were never completed. They offer a unique insight into Michelangelo's process, where the figures seem to be struggling to free themselves from the marble, embodying the concept of the "unfinished" in art​​​​.

3 - The Gipsoteca is a collection of plaster casts by the 19th-century sculptor Lorenzo Bartolini. This room showcases the creative process of sculpting, with numerous busts and models used by Bartolini and his students. The Gipsoteca represents the transition from idea to finished artwork, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the sculptor's workshop​​​​.

Australia

The Great Barrier Reef is famous not only because it is the largest coral reef in the ocean, but also because it is the most beautiful one. For those who like snorkeling or diving, an unsurpassable underwater world opens up.

My highlight in Australia was definitely the day trip to the reef. From Cairns, we took the tourist boat out to sea. Since the water is relatively cold, you get a wetsuit and then have hours to discover the unique underwater world.

I saw sharks, turtles, huge colorful corals, man-sized fish, thousands of small schools of fish, a clam, rays, snails, and lots of underwater plants.

Remember that you are a trespasser in the underwater world, so be careful not to touch or destroy anything. Use organic sunscreen and always be respectful of your surroundings.

The world’s largest reef

The Alentejo region, located in south-central Portugal, is home to a captivating collection of megalithic monuments that date back over 6,000 years, offering a rare glimpse into ancient European civilizations. The area around Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage city with Roman, medieval, and contemporary layers of history, is particularly rich in these prehistoric sites. Exploring the ancient megaliths of Alentejo and the medieval walled city of Évora allows visitors to travel through time—from Neolithic rituals to Roman conquests, Gothic architecture, and beyond.

Highlights of the Ancient Megaliths and Évora:

1. Visit the Cromeleque dos Almendres, one of Europe’s oldest and largest stone circles, dating back to 4000 BC. This oval arrangement of 95 standing stones, located near Évora, is thought to have served as a ceremonial or astronomical site and offers a mystifying connection to the region’s ancient past, surrounded by scenic rolling hills.
