Grace Berlfein

What is this?

This two-hour walking tour explores the street art of Palermo Soho, the trendiest neighborhood in Buenos Aires, as a manifestation of porteño culture and heritage. Walking around these cobblestone passages and dipping into boutiques and bakeries is part and parcel of a stay in the Argentine capital, which means that a rendezvous with these painted walls is a sure thing. But what are the artists saying through their art? Seeing the murals and mosaics at Grace’s side lays bare hidden stories of important Argentine figures and those who paint them. She explains the messages, motifs, and intentions of abstract installations. Grace contemplates the wider identity of Palermo Soho and discusses how immigration has shaped the aesthetic of Buenos Aires. The tour concludes with a relaxed coffee stop, during which Grace will invite you to ponder over what you've seen and answer any outstanding questions. Sharing visuals, she will discuss how this urban art form has spread around the world.

What makes this unique?

Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Grace has spent over 15 years living and working overseas, gaining experience with different cultures and how art is used as both an expression and an aesthetic. The combination of her two professions (graphic design and tourism) led to her to specialize in street art, exploring its development and its relevance as an artistic and social manifestation in the modern-day world. Grace is personally connected to porteño street artists, giving her a thorough comprehension of their techniques, motivations, and backstories. She has been present at several installations in Palermo Soho and maintains regular contact with the local street art community — the walk is peppered with anecdotes and over coffee, you will pore over visuals from her personal archive. Grace's experience is an open dialogue, not a lecture. She invites her guests, you, to engage in a conversation about street art and other Argentine traditions that may have left an impression on you.
