The experience begins in Urzulei with an e-bike ride through the rugged beauty of Supramonte to an old sheepfold. You’ll follow a scenic dirt path that winds across limestone plateaus and holm oak forests, passing grazing animals and wide, open views that stretch across Ogliastra’s Blue Zone. The electric assist allows for a smooth and relaxed pace, letting you fully take in the raw, silent charm of this landscape.

Once you leave the bikes behind, a 2-km hike begins. You’ll walk through peaceful terrain to reach the Millenary Yew, a protected natural monument, and continue to a nearby Giant’s Tomb. The trail ends at the karst pond of Pischina ’e Urthàddala, with views over Sa Giuntura and the upper entrance to Gorropu Canyon.

Peru

This archaeologist-led experience takes you to two of Cusco’s most prominent sacred sites: Convent of Santa Catalina and Qoricancha (Temple of the Sun). Together, they help you see how Indigenous beliefs shaped Cusco’s spiritual landscape before colonization.

As you’ll learn, the area now occupied by Santa Catalina was once an acllawasi, “House of the Chosen Women.” This Inca institution housed women selected for their lineage and skills in ritual crafts such as weaving and ceremonial food preparation. It functioned as a communal and spiritual center, supporting practices tied to agriculture, astronomy, and the worship of the Sun.

Built in the 15th century, Qoricancha was the most important religious site in the Inca Empire. Dedicated to Inti, the sun god, its finely fitted stone walls were once sheathed with gold and silver plates. Delsi connects the dots between these two sites—one tied to a sacred institution, the other to state cosmology—and what they reveal about Cusco’s legacy.

Visiting Santa Catalina and Qoricancha with a local archaeologist offers a way to dig below the surface of Cusco’s sacred history through material evidence. Delsi brings depth to what these sites still hold: how the acllawasi functioned within Inca society and how its footprint survives within a later convent complex. Delsi Espinoza is a local, fully licensed archaeologist from San Sebastian in Cusco. She has more than 15 years of experience working in the Cusco region on various official projects in a variety of locations. She has worked directly with the Peruvian Ministry of Culture, international organizations, local municipalities, and national parks, including Machu Picchu, Sacsayhuamán (Saqsaywaman), Pikillaqta, and Urubamba, amongst others. She has led excavation projects, maintenance programs, and education initiatives in the region since graduating as an archaeologist from the Universidad San Antonio Abad Cusco in 2014.

Begin at one of Tokyo's most important temples and the burial site of several of Japan's former Shogun. Passing through the enormous Torii gate, you enter the tree-lined path marking the approach to Meiji Jingu, established in 1920 to honor Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken — a shrine built from trees donated from across all of Japan. The long walk from the crowded streets of Harajuku to the main shrine is, by design, a passageway from the distractions of the city to the quiet, peacefulness of this place of great spiritual significance. Along your walk, your guide explains the meanings behind purification rituals, torii gates, and the rope and paper shimenawa, adorning trees and rocks around the shrine precinct. Together, you will prepare the meat, chop the veggies, and sip wine while the embers do their thing. And after that? You will take it easy over the sacred ritual of sobremesa concluding with coffee, Fernet, and a homemade dessert. There is no need to rush and no script, just the joy of food, stories, and connection.

There is no idling around, no spectating, and absolutely no being waited on at this asado hosted at the private home of your host, Julieta. Growing up on the city’s outskirts, it wasn’t until returning after time abroad that he saw it anew. “It was as a young and independent adult with an arts and architecture degree, and with the enthusiasm to explore — that I realized how beautiful, diverse, and interesting my city is.”
For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.
As tourism evolves, Tiago points toward Lisbon’s under-known strengths. “Gastronomy, street art, tiles, contemporary architecture… there’s so much more to discover!”

We arrive by RIB boat from Longyearbyen, dressed in survival suits, across a choppy Arctic Sea, with puffins and seals for company.

Isfjord Radio on Cape Linné, is an abandoned strategic communications station, with a decidedly interesting past, now converted into a stylish expedition lodge. 

Nothing could have prepared me for the extreme sense of isolation and wilderness. 

Imagine sitting all alone at latitude 79 degrees north and watching polar bears prowling outside the kitchen window. Two days ago, that is exactly what the staff at Isfjord Radio did.  After all, Svalbard’s travel slogan reads: “3000 polar bears, 2500 humans”. 

Hiking into the middle of nowhere, or along the coast looking for 1500-kilo walruses, is done with licensed guides, a couple of mandatory rifles for protection and huskies for company. It is a beautiful, stark landscape, filled with mystery and a sense of the unknown. 

Which direction should we head? Anywhere you want to go, comes the reply.
