Mexico

Likely meaning “place of coyotes,” Coyoacán was originally a village founded by the Tepanec people in pre-Columbian times. Now located in the south of Mexico City (CDMX), Coyoacán is perhaps best known today for being the home of the Frida Kahlo Museum and the impressive colonial-era architecture. 

Bruno, your guide for this tour, is an artist who grew up in Coyoacán. Through his unique perspective, you’ll gain historical, personal, and artistic context for this beautiful neighborhood. Chile

Get ready for an exclusive, art-filled day of murals, mosaics, and storytelling with one of Santiago’s prominent artists and artistic directors. This private full-day experience in Puente Alto, Chile’s mosaic capital, grants you access to the world of contemporary mosaics through the expert lens of artist and muralist Shannon McEvoy.

After a private pickup from your hotel, you'll set out on an immersive journey through Puente Alto on foot. You’ll admire large-scale installations—including Latin America’s most expansive mosaic intervention—while learning about the artistic techniques and cultural narratives behind each piece.

After a picnic lunch in a park near the mosaics of Puente Alto, you will travel to the Universidad de Chile metro station which houses the mosaic, "Alas de Amistad". 

Inaugurated in 2024, this mural celebrates the bicentennial of friendship between the United States and Chile. It was a collaboration with the United States Embassy in Chile. As one of the co-artistic directors, Shannon will reveal how it came to be and talk you through the symbolism.

We will stop and admire the mosaic on the front of the Municipality Building of Puente Alto. This is where Shannon participated in an international mosaic event in 2014. This was organized by the artist Isidora Paz Lopez – the same artist who organized the rest of the project we have viewed. Nearby, we also have the opportunity to view the spectacular mosaics at the end of Puente Alto’s monumental metro project.

Shannon McEvoy participated in the mosaic installations on the Municipality Building in Puente Alto in a two-week international invitational event in 2014. Municipality of Puente Alto 

Our first stop is near the first metro station in Puente Alto. From here, we will follow the route of the metro line from the outside. Along the way, we will admire a total of 4 metro stations and 84 monumental pillars adorned with the beautiful mosaics of Isidora Paz Lopez and her team from the 2014 intervention. 

Covering over 4,000 square meters, this project is considered the largest mosaic intervention in Latin America and the third largest in the world. We will walk at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to take photos. Water, electrolytes, and snacks will be provided for the walk.  

Our mosaic trek concludes at the Municipality Building of Puente Alto.  

Shannon McEvoy participated in some of the mosaic installations in Puente Alto and is knowledgeable about the others. Her walking tour focuses on the stories behind the murals: how artists collaborate and what public art represents to a local community and the overall identity of a city.

As an artistic director, she has overseen several monumental public art installations in Santiago and beyond.

Passionate about both art and language, Shannon sees them as powerful tools for self-expression and meaningful connection. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she also speaks basic Portuguese.

Note how glass towers shimmer like secular cathedrals to Chile’s economic ascent. Yet within moments, the horizon shifts: Providencia’s art deco facades give way to the historic core of Santiago where the ghosts of conquistadors and revolutionaries linger. 

This scenic drive presents a snapshot of an ever-changing city resting in a valley between the Andes mountains and the Coastal Ranges of Chile. Las Condes and Vitacura

'Here, light becomes liturgy.' 

In 1953, Shoghi Effendi, guardian of the Bahá'í Faith, envisioned a temple to unite a continent. By 2016, this dream crystallized into the Mother Temple of South America—and today this is the first stop on your one-day odyssey of Santiago de Chile.

The Bahá'í Temple of Santiago is a structure of nine luminous “petals” each arching skyward like a prayer. Thirty meters high, its glass-clad sails filter daylight into a sanctuary for 600 souls, symbolizing the Bahá'í tenet of oneness. 

As Julio will expand on, the temple’s floral form is no accident: it mirrors nature’s perfection, a deliberate echo of divine harmony. Julio will share yet more tidbits and wisdom while taking you on a dance around Santiago's most enthralling landmark and idyllic gardens. Santiago Bahá'í Temple

Arriving at Los Dominicos Artisan's Village is akin to walking into a living archive of Chilean tradition. Nestled beside the 18th-century San Vicente Ferrer Church in Santiago's Los Condes district, this enclave of 200 workshops hums with the legacy of Mapuche metalsmiths, colonial leather workers, and mestizo weavers. 

Julio will weave you around the artisan village and introduce you to craftspeople who will share their work and stories. As this is an opportune moment to pick up souvenirs, it is advisable to carry cash (Chilean pesos). 

Trace your fingers over copper cookware forged in ancestral fires, inhale the earthy musk of medicinal herbs, and savor empanadas—a culinary relic of Spain’s Moorish past reborn in the New World.

Julio will explain the nuances of the Chilean arts and crafts scene and unravel the backstories of typical metals and fabrics. Best of all, this segment allows an opportunity to engage with local artisans and learn about how they carry out their work in modern times while honoring ancient traditions.

Los Dominicos Artisan Village

Huelén, the Mapuche called it; "here is the place." 

In 1540, the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia raised his cross upon this volcanic outcrop, thus founding Santiago as a bastion of empire. Today, Santa Lucía Hill's serpentine paths lead past moss-crowned cannons and neoclassical follies with each step a dialogue between Indigenous resilience and colonial ambition. 

After a short climb, you'll pause at the summit and observe how the city sprawls below like a map of its own layered history.  

Santa Lucía Hill (Cerro Santa Lucía) is one of Santiago's most treasured natural landmarks. Paths weave through lush greenery that provide relief to the lungs of Santiaguinos and Santiaguinas before culminating with one of the finest views in the city.

Sheltered by trees and cooled by the cascading Fountain of Neptune, Julio will expose the origins of Santiago through a blend of facts, mythology, and personal commentaries. This beautiful place for photography strikes a startling contrast with dizzying urban areas below and shows the capital in an entirely different light. 

Santa Lucía Hill

Lunch unfolds in Bellavista, Santiago’s most bohemian barrio, where cobblestone streets and kaleidoscopic murals pulse with artistic energy. This eclectic neighborhood thrums with craft breweries, artisan markets, and the legacy of such creatives as Pablo Neruda whose whimsical home, La Chascona, nestles nearby. 

Julio will take you to Galindo, a beloved local institution where the walls buzz with decades of stories and the aroma of Chilean comfort food fills the air. Refresh with a tangy Pisco Sour and savor Pastel de Choclo—a caramelized corn pie steeped in Andean tradition. Galindo’s menu celebrates Chile’s soul: Machas a la Parmesana (plump razor clams broiled with Parmesan), Caldillo de Congrio (a silky fish soup immortalized by Neruda himself), and hearty empanadas and steaks that pair perfectly with bold Chilean wines.

Bellavista is Santiago’s beating creative heart, where art spills onto sidewalks and rebellion mingles with tradition. This one-day history tour of Santiago concludes in the Historic Civic Center where Julio will introduce you to such wonders as:

This immersive, sensorial experience spans two half-days, honoring the ancestral craft of sourdough bread-making. Inspired by the ancient Greek myths of goddess Demeter and her daughter Persephone, it combines bread-making, storytelling and mindful rituals that honor the sacred grain of wheat.

On the first half-day, you’ll learn about the ancestral art of sourdough breadmaking, delving into the significance of wheat in ancient Greece and its connection to Demeter. Through a mindful practice, you’ll prepare the dough, engaging with the wheat, your senses and the land of Athens. The bread is left to ferment overnight.

On the second half-day, you’ll bake the bread and share it in a ritual of togetherness. Paired with curated seasonal local foods, this mindful eating ritual fosters community and gratitude. This transformative workshop combines hands-on learning with cultural, mythological and spiritual elements, offering practical baking skills and a deep connection to ancient tradition.

Demeter taught mortals the art of bread-making. In this ancestral sourdough bread-making workshop, we’ll revisit ancient bread-making traditions and the types of bread the Ancient Greeks created. We’ll connect with our bodies, the ancient land of Athens, and the wheat itself.

Through hands-on learning, you’ll physically engage with ancestral methods of bread-making, deepening your connection to the craft and the stories behind it. The workshop also nurtures mindfulness in eating habits and respect for ingredients, transforming the approach to food in everyday life.

Begin with three days in Barcelona, where Manila recommends focusing not on checklists but on rhythm: explore historic neighborhoods, check out design ateliers, sample Catalan cuisine, and seek out the quieter corners still alive with local tradition. | Head south into the wine country of Priorat, a lesser-known region with rolling hills and medieval villages. This itinerary reflects what Manila calls the “true essence of Catalonia” — a place of cultural pride, natural beauty, and distinct local identity. Manila first arrived in Barcelona more than two decades ago, while finishing her studies in Rome. She needed an internship for her thesis and chose Barcelona without expecting how quickly she’d feel at home.“Barcelona, 22 years ago, was a different place,” she says. “It was less cosmopolitan, more local. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. Whether through demonstrations or cultural festivals, they come together. They’re efficient and organized, but also keep that relaxed Mediterranean vibe. It’s a unique combination.”
