The experience is an immersion into sea silk (byssus) and traditional weaving practices, guided by textile artist Arianna Pintus. You learn what byssus is, why it is so rare, and how it is woven through a careful, patient process. The setting is intentionally intimate and quiet: not a “show,” but a respectful approach to a material that asks for presence.

Alongside byssus, Arianna also shares her work with linen, creating a dialogue between natural elements. You leave with a deeper understanding of what “slow making” truly means and with the sense of having touched a fragile, precious thread of Sardinia’s living heritage.

The distinctiveness of this experience lies in the coherence between Arianna’s practice and her way of inhabiting time. Her work with sea silk comes from a recovered chain of knowledge: she sources the material from an existing food supply chain, where it would otherwise be discarded, restoring meaning to a fiber that survives today only through rare and time-intensive practices. She also grows the linen she works with, following its cycle from cultivation to thread and grounding the textile process in direct contact with the land.

Equally distinctive is her decision not to accumulate. Arianna does not produce stock, allowing the pace of making to remain aligned with the slow processes the materials require. This approach keeps the work intentionally slow and sustainable.

You are not positioned as an observer of a finished practice. Because Arianna follows materials from their origin, you encounter a process in which each step remains visible and understandable.

Arianna Pintus is a textile artist and weaving educator based in rural South Sardinia. Her studio practice centers on slow weaving, natural fibers (linen and wool), and the rare sea silk (byssus), approached with a strong ethical and cultural framework.

Arianna’s work emphasizes attention over consumption — understanding limits and the time held inside handmade textiles. Her atelier visits remain intentionally intimate to protect both the atmosphere of the studio and the delicacy of the materials.

Chile

Hosted by an architect, this full-day excursion analyzes Santiago’s preserved pre-colonial grid and the strategic placement of a city within a natural basin. You'll see the cathedral, Plaza de Armas, and a network of covered pedestrian galleries cutting through the city blocks, while discussing the eclecticism of the historic downtown. The itinerary continues at the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (built in 1972 and renovated in 2009 after a national competition), Santa Lucía Hill (the founding site of colonial Santiago), the Chilean Museum of Pre-Columbian Art (designed by Smiljan Radic), and La Moneda Cultural Center.

Diego Baloian is an architect holding a degree from the Universidad Finis Terrae and a Master's in Cultural Heritage from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). As the founding partner at DBG Architecture and Massantiago, his work focuses on architectural design, the restoration of heritage buildings, and urban planning. He has led and participated in projects and seminars in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Switzerland, and Hungary. 

Diego has also organized conferences and exhibitions on Latin American architecture in collaboration with Guiding Architects Network, the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich (ETH). 

In the academic field, he has worked with communities on research and heritage valorization projects, implementing collaborative methodologies across diverse cultural and territorial contexts.

Mexico

This experience takes you into the world of local Oaxacan stonework, centered around a lightweight, porous rock known as "cantera". This material is essential to the history of Oaxaca—many of the region’s structures are built from it. During colonial times, the area was briefly renamed Villa de Antequera because the stone’s soft green tones reminded settlers of that Spanish city.

You’ll visit a local cantera mine and family-run workshops to see their creative process firsthand. The experience also includes a homemade meal with the family matriarch. The set menu is accompanied by non-alcoholic drinks and a cup of locally made mezcal.

You’ll be guided by a fourth-generation stone artisan who shares both his family’s legacy and his own artistic work. You’ll engage in meaningful conversation about the history of cantera and the role it continues to play in the region. Transportation is included, and Ehren will provide translation support if needed.

Maestro Oscar has exhibited his work throughout the state and recently held a solo show. He also collaborates with local government to help preserve the city’s architectural harmony.

His great-grandparents once excavated stone from mines governed under indigenous law, and his grandfather contributed to many of the cantera structures in and around the city—including the ornate fountains in the Zócalo. In meeting this master artisan, you’ll connect with the current generation of stoneworkers who honor these traditions while sharing stories and relics that bring the past vividly into the present.

As you discuss local stonework, you’ll also enjoy Oaxacan delicacies over a private lunch prepared by his mother, Rubi, in her open kitchen—complete with a cup of local mezcal. The generational artistry of cantera has been recognized as an intangible cultural asset of Southern Mexico.

Through all of her projects—including Hecho, a marketplace of artisan-made goods from natural materials—Ehren maintains an active focus on supporting Mexican ancestral traditions through handmade product development, including textiles, pottery, homewares, and other works. Her projects also place special emphasis on supporting women and indigenous communities.

You leave San Sebastián by private transport and drive west toward the coast, where the Basque Country’s food culture begins in daily routines. In Zarautz, you walk through the local market as residents shop for fish landed that morning, seasonal vegetables, and cured meats that anchor home cooking. Your host explains how people here buy food day by day, and why seasonality matters.

From the coast, you head inland to the hills where txakoli vineyards cling to steep, terraced slopes. At a small, family-run winery, you see how this lightly sparkling white wine is made from native grapes shaped by Atlantic weather. The tasting is informal and direct, focused on method, land, and continuity.

The day ends at a traditional cider house. You stand at the barrel for the txotx ritual, catching cider as it’s poured, then sit down to a classic meal: cod omelet, grilled steak, and Idiazabal cheese with quince and walnuts. It’s a long lunch, taken the Basque way — unhurried and communal.

Txakoli (pronounced cha-ko-lee) is a white wine that embodies the maritime and mountain character of the Basque Country and sits at the center of this experience. Made for centuries from indigenous grapes, it reflects the meeting of Atlantic weather and steep terrain. Traditionally served young and poured from a height to aerate it, txakoli evolved to accompany local food. The winery you visit is hand-picked for its artisanship and quality — a family-run estate, well away from mass tourism.

Cider, or sagardoa, carries an equally deep history. Present in Basque rural and maritime life since at least the 11th century, it anchors a social ritual built around shared tables and long meals. The txotx remains a living custom — binding food, drink, and hospitality into a single cultural expression.

In private transport from San Sebastián, you’ll head to the nearby coastal town of Zarautz and visit the Mercado de Zarautz, its lively local food market. Cider has been an important drink in Basque culture for centuries. This experience follows the Via Appia Antica, one of the earliest and most important roads of the Roman Republic, laid out in 312 BC as a military and commercial artery. Traveling along stretches of original paving, past tombs and ruins that still line its edges, you follow a route that carried armies, merchants, pilgrims, and the dead beyond the city walls.

You descend into the catacombs of San Callisto or San Sebastiano. During a one-hour underground visit, your guide introduces the early Christian communities buried here, explaining carved symbols, frescoes, and networks of galleries. Look for carvings of vines, a sign of communion and continuity.

You continue to a charming working winery with its own vineyard within Appia Antica Regional Park. There’s not much that has changed in this Square in its millennium of existence. 

Here’s a non-exhaustive list of what you’ll find: Percussionists, Acrobats, Fortune-tellers, Conjurers, Gnawa musicians, Henna tattoo artists, Food Vendors, Snake charmers, Potion peddlers, Un-winnable carnival games. 

As dusk settles over Marrakech, look up at the sky. Follow the direction of what looks like a bonfire of epic proportions. When you manage to edge past the thousands of people, you realize it’s only smoke from kebabs and snails at over a hundred barbecue stalls, staffed by some of the busiest chefs and unflappable crews you’ll ever see.

Look around the Square and locate a restaurant with a balcony. Buy a glass of mint tea and grab a coveted plastic chair at the edge of the balcony to see the grand view of the world’s largest human tableau play out below.

The Caves in Negril offers a unique and exhilarating experience for those seeking adventure in a breathtakingly beautiful setting. Perched atop honeycomb cliffs formed by volcanic activity, The Caves is a gateway to thrilling cliff diving and cave swimming experiences.

The natural structure of the cliffs at The Caves makes them an ideal location for cliff diving. The walls of the resort are a veritable museum of ancient fossilized marine life and provide a variety of diving spots. 

As guests at The Caves, we were encouraged to take early morning dives from the cliffs, with jumps ranging from 8 ft to 30 ft, and there's even a jump inside a cave for the more daring. 

Despite the excitement of cliff diving, it's important to approach this activity with caution. The heights can be intimidating, and the water can appear menacing, especially when the weather is not ideal. So be careful and always go with a companion.

Cliff Diving at the Caves

The ancient city of Pompeii is one of the most fascinating and well-preserved archaeological sites in the world. Buried under volcanic ash after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, Pompeii offers an unparalleled glimpse into daily life in a Roman city nearly 2,000 years ago. The volcanic ash remarkably preserved buildings, frescoes, mosaics, and even the casts of residents, allowing visitors to walk through the streets and experience the grandeur and tragedy of this once-thriving city.
 Highlights of Pompeii:
